If you’ve been to our first two Taverns you’ll expect another original interpretation, this time in Northern Marin County, of the things we love. That’s serving fresh, in-season craft beers alongside our unfiltered Tavern classics, Kellerbier and Dunkelweizen. Preparing in our new exhibition kitchen tasty Tavern fare, this time adding wood fired pizza and ribs from our smoker. We bring the outdoors in by connecting the tavern to our beautiful beergarden under five California old growth oaks. Our Novato Tavern can comfortably entertain groups large and small in our music venue

"This place has great food and great beer. It's the perfect date spot. Casual, but nice. The service was great for the first half of dinner, but then declined. The waiter truly needs to make more eye contact when running around. We waited quite awhile for our bill and to go boxes. With that said, the waiter was super friendly and helpful...there's just a little room for improvement."

"We went to Hopmonk in Novato to see a show in their sound stage. We were pleasantly surprised by their open patio design, large tables for groups and extensive beer menu. We had fun sampling several beers, had good pub food and had a fabulous time at the music show. It was nice to be able to have a fun evening out with friends and go straight from the restaraunt to the show."

"Finally tried the HopMonk last night with dad and hubby. None of us were impressed. I had fish and chips which were decent nothing spectacular. I got it with a side of garlic fries which they placed underneath the fish and became extremely soggy immediately. My husband had the Ruben and my dad had the jambalaya. The meat on my husband's Ruben was dry and the bread over toasted. We all tried the tomato soup which our friends had suggested as the "best" tomato soup and we all found it to be much too sour and had MUCH better elsewhere. The patio area looks cute with a nice large fireplace and heaters. I would recommend this place maybe just for a beer and appetizer and dinner elsewhere. Prices are also high especially for what you get."

"We stopped for a very late lunch and figured we could sit in the bar and watch the Giants game. There are 3 large flat screen TV's that are crystal clear - the music that was playing in the restaurant made perfect background music for a game. Portions were generous and delicious - service was all that you could ask for."

It was a great re-making of the last restaurant in the space- light, spacious, comfortable. Excellent beer selections and samples are available. apparently a good happy hour too. "Food was a good quality, but your portions were a bit too large for lunch. The dessert portions could be shared with 4 people. We did not realize this until 3 desserts arrived for 4 people. It is nice to be given so much food if you are extremely hungry, but it would be best if you have a choice of smaller plates at lunch."

"Went for a St. Patty's Day dinner. It was subdues which we didn't mind, but there was no specials presented and the food menu seems good, but it has very limited options. the beer selection is great, but some are quite pricey and more expensive then in other restaurants. The staff was fine, nothing special. Not a fan of other servers bringing food other than your waitress. The dinner was served way too quickly and if we ordered the beer and food at the same time, the food would have arrived before beer. Way too fast and not that relaxing as we were literally done within 1/2 hour from time we sat down and we did not order right away. I will go again as the food was good, but I may as well take it to go..."

"Hopmonk is a step or two up from Moylans, rather casual atmosphere, loud with a good bar scene if you like that...The food was better and more interesting than Moylans and there were lots of families with small kids dining since it was so loud, it didn't matter if they were too. "I notice there is no way to rate if a place is TOO noisy -- the options here seem not to want to acknowledge that! I almost considered not filling this out for that reason. It was a little loud, but we didn't really mind. We were in the mood for a lively atmosphere and that's what it was. "We ordered the Greek salad and fried sausage and I had the beer sausage. She was happy with the meal and the Greek salad was larger that the last time , which was a good thing.
Unfortunately my sausage was tough, the apple cabbage was great and the mustard potato was a smaller portion to the Sebastopol Hopmonk ( which I go to often for food and music.)
After spending 100 dls on drinks and food , I felt the $10 dollar charge for the music was a bit high. There were lots of people sitting out side the music venue and no one inside , that should tell you something about a 10 dollar JAM. A really customer friendly thing would have been to comp us the Jam, we would probably had a couple of glasses of wine ."

"I was here a month ago and it was fabulous. Today I had the exact food for lunch and it was horrible. The fish and chips had no fish ....just deep fried dough. It was horrible. When I complained they brought me new fish that was tasteless and watery. Couldn't help but think that now that they have been open for a while, they have cheated on the fish. And the service was terrible. Never asked if they could refill my drink. Couldn't recommend to enough friends last month. Now hoping they don't go for lunch and order fish and chips"

"I had to send back the mini-brat sandwich because the bread was rock hard and the brats were dried out. But it was graciously and immediately replaced by the pulled pork sandwich which was good. The beers are exceptional and the interior design is sophisticated for a restaurant in a shopping center. Definitely will go back!"

"I was disappointed because I had heard the food was excellent and only to find out that it was heavy, not a whole lot of flavor and very expensive. All three add up to we won't be back as there are too many nice places in Novato to eat that will cost you half of what we spent and better tasting food.
The service was very good and the staff had a great attitude. The fried Calamari was excellent as was the Salmon entree. However the garlic fries were cold, the sausage bits were tastless and the phili cheese steak in Nann bread was a big greasy disappointment. The beers were good and I suspect this place will be more of a bar and music place to visit. Food was very high in saturated fats and heavy heavy."

"This was our first time to the Novato Hopmonk, knowing roughly what to expect having been to the Sebastopol version a number of times. We went for a quiet birthday dinner, midweek, just the two of us, not for the brews but for the food. Atmosphere is upbeat, modern but not raucous, service was pleasant and attentive,our food delivered with a smile. There are some refreshing twists on what you would expect to be standard bar food, like a philly sandwich wrapped with naan. All quality fare. And of course, there is much to explore on their beer list. I'm looking forward to making a night of it and taking advantage of their music venue. We'll return."

"Overall this was a pleasant surprise! W went twice in a week and the first time they were out of the mussels which i wanted so i ordered the burger. It was very juicy and the fries were good. My boyfriend got the chicken sandwich and the sweet potato fries. The sandwich had a delicious jalapeno jam on it that was fetish. The second time i actually got the mussels which were good but not great, a little bland. Good service both trees, overall a great addition to novato."

Let me recommend to you Hopmonk Tavern.... energetic without being overwhelming - plenty to choose from in terms of drink (the drink menu could be sold as a book), with a decent enough number of food options to boot. You'll walk away with a good feeling."

"Love that there is a new Hopmonk restaurant in Marin.Really liked it and appreciate that it is kid-friendly BUT we froze due to the front door opening and closing. Looking forward to going back in the summer and enjoying the outdoor space."

"It was a busy night, but the service was good. We only had to wait a while for one beer,, after that, they were Johnny on the spot. Even the food came quickly and it was delicious. We had the meat and cheese platter to start and it was great! The bread, we called them croutons, needs to be replaced with a good French or something. it was hard as a rock. Beer is always delish. Went to hear the band they had booked and it was fun! Great place for a date night!"

"Hopmonk Tavern in Novato is just a fair place to go for dinner. The food is so-so, with no real stand outs that we had. The food service was a little chaotic - our waitress spent more time on her hand held ordering device than she did interacting with us. Our appetizer plates stayed on the table long after we were done and were still there when our main courses arrived. The bar service, however, was outstanding, and this is really what this place is all about. They have a fabulous beer list and the bar was hopping. There is an outside dining space that looks like it would be a lot of fun during the warmer months, and a separate room that features live music. This is a fun place to drink beer and sample appetizers with your friends."
