"A bit pricey in some regards but a convenient spot for pretheatre dinner. We did not feel rushed and the service was good. Wine was well chilled and served. Gruyere puff appetizer was a disappointment but the chocolates peanut tart while not French was very good. Kid friendly but no kid menu items...$17 for three meatballs and a side of spaghetti."

"The food was very tasting and appetizing. The prices were reasonable. The waitstaff were friendly. People watching was fun. The decor is in good taste. The only weakness on this occasion for us was the long wait we had for our dessert to arrive. But I must say, the restaurant had gotten very busy by the time we ordered dessert, so I guess that had something to do with it. Overall, our experience was positive and we would be inclined to return. And, I would recommend it to friends."

"Food was great! So was the service. A little noisey and hard to hear because of the live jazz band. Didnt realize when I made reservations a band would be playing or I would have picked a different night. I like to be able to hear the people at my table talking."

"I have been to this restaurant 3 times in the last month and it has been pretty consistently good. Had sweetbreads before they went off menu and that was most outstanding dish I've had here. The gougeres have been spotty—excellent one time and tough little rocks the next. Crawfish beignets now on menu are wonderful. Pre-dinner bread is awful; might as well skip. I love the beers they have on draught and the wine list is quite adequate."

"Cafe des Artistes is a great destination for events in the various Dallas Arts District venues. We arrived at 6:30, had a leisurely dinner and cocktails and were in our seats at the Winspear by 8 PM.
Live music was a nice additon.
The One Arts Plaza valet parking offers an "event option" to park for $15 plus tip. If you dine at any of the restaurants, including Cafe des Artistes, and have your parking ticket validated, you may park for $5 plus tip."

"Yes, it was crowded, but it took forever for us to get waited on. After we ordered and got our food, it was a rarity that we laid eyes on our waiter. Actually, it looked like they were understaffed. We loved everything we ate - - from apps to entrees to dessert!"

"Wed,7pm before a concert at the Winspear. Nice evening, sat outside.Very few people,a couple of tables outside, none inside.Decor not up to Lombardi standards. Service was helpful & attentive, however the food was not what we expected from a Lombardi restaurant.Menu similar to Toulouse but without favorites like steak tartare and souffles.Escargot not a traditional presentation, risotto tasty, but the snails were so bad that I sent the dish back. Pastas were fine as was the hamburger, fries nowhere near as good as Toulouse's. Escargot removed from our bill & server was apologetic. By 8pm the place was empty. All I can surmise is that they must be getting free rent from the landlord and just don't care. This place tarnishes Lombardi's brand."

"As big fans of the other Lombardi's concepts, we've been wanting to try CdA for a while. We weren't disappointed. We sat outside (bring your sunglasses, there isn't much shade even with umbrellas). Our server was excellent and had great menu advice. Food was very good. The menu is not for meat and potatoes types so come prepared. The Caesar salad was excellent (deep fried anchovies, butter lettuce instead of romaine-nice touch). The pasta dishes were delicious and the trout special excellent. We split the gelato/espresso dessert and while it was a mess to eat, it tasted great. One tip: the dessert menu has additional drink options (vodka drinks, etc.) that aren't on the regular drink menu so ask for that menu too."

"Loved the menu choices and food. Great Moules Frites and Tuna Nicoise and a terrific pasta special. BUT, the piano player was much too loud during dinner. Maybe a barrier wall between the dining room and bar would help? Maybe playing soft dinner music until 9 or 10 pm would be better?"

"Exceptional wine list. The Chauteneuf du Pape was tempting at that price, but I went for the Malbec by the glass. Exceptional wine selections. Braised ribs were excellent. Rasberry creme brulee was creative/inventive. Chocolate merainge was one of the best desserts my wife and I ever had."

"My wife and I dined at Cafe des Artistes for brunch before heading over to the Dallas Theater Center for a matinee performance of Red. This was our first time to visit the restaurant and we found it to be not only a perfect location for our purposes, but also an excellent place to start the day. We warmed in the comfortable, not-too-fancy elegance of Euro/Parisian ambiance. We both enjoyed a perfectly cooked and seasoned short rib hash and a subtly spicy Bloody Mary eye-opener, followed by (a shared) dessert, which is not our usual MO (a Mozart - layers of hazelnut meringue, Chantilly crème & chocolate ganache and chocolate sauce). Service was spot on and friendly. ...a very nice beginning to an overall especially enjoyable day."

"We went prior to a show at the Winspear. The atmosphere was fun with a live jazz ensemble. Champagne cocktails were good but incredibly overpriced for the size of the drink. Service was great, food was average. I had the fish which I recall as bland. I would go back before a show, but that's all."

"This was our 2nd time to the restaurant and it was very disappointing because of the noise level. The first time there was a pianist who sang as well and it was very pleasant. Unfortunately we were a party of 6 this time and could not hear each other. Whilst I thought the Jazz quintet were great, they were not appropriate for a restaurant of this size. It was deafening and spoilt our evening. I'm not sure our friends will return. A real pity as the food was great!"

"The food was variable. Cesear salad was just okay. Steak frites was very good, (steak, good; frites, excellent). Salmon was very good, but the accompanying sides were lukewarm, as if they sat around too long on the plate waiting for the salmon, which was hot. Service from our waitress was poor, but other servers worked hard to help us. We sat for probably 10 minutes with no one coming to our table. When the table next to us was seated and their waiter immediately appeared we complained and he and another waiter helped us until our waitress appeared. They even apologized for her. We liked the ambiance and thought it would be great to return in nice weather and sit outside. We'll give it another chance due to location."

"Definitely a real find for us. Located in the Dallas Arts District within walking distance to all entertainment venues...Meyerson Symphony Hall, Windspear Opera House Wylie Theater, Performance Hall, Booker T. Washington Arts Magnet School. Our waiter, Greg, was warm and welcoming and very attentive and accommodating. All the staff were very attentive and gracious! The food was delicious!!! The Dallas Morning News gave it only 1 star and was very critical of many things. We totally disagree with this review. We found it a wonderful place to dine and will return next week with friends when we will be in town for a symphony performance. Will definitely look forward to our return and trying something else on the menu."

"I generally rate this place as "very good". However, when we were last there, we had to send our drinks back three times to get the right vodka; the food came out at different times, and the atmosphere among the wait staff seemed uncoordinated and chaotic. This was the first time we had this experience after visiting this particular restaurant three times."

"My wife and I decided to try this restaurant (on a recommendation) before heading to a show at the Winspear. The service was excellent and the food similar. We had the Lobster Risotto (wow!) and the Braised beef Short Ribs. Both were cooked perfectly and appealing enough to have the table next to us ask what the dishes were, and order the same thing. The prices were reasonable for the quality and portions. I would recommend this restaurant, and will be coming back."

"Cafe Des Artistes is a perfect place for pre- or post-theater dinner and drinks. The food is high end french bistro (although the burger and tagliatelle bologna are also amazing). Having been there to lunch a few times, we had dinner there before going to the Winspear. A pleasant surprise was the live jazz group playing on weekend nights. The group varies but is comprised mostly of students from the arts magnet school across the street. The real jazz really made it special."

"I enjoy Lomdardi restaurants. Tonight, however, it as if a street person had been sent to wait on us, Valentines night. Literally, the guy had no idea about how to serve. Twice our food was placed on the table next to us. I had to suggest he clear the bread and appetizer dishes be fore serving the salad.
Food, wine, and pianist were well worth the two bills spent."
