"I was looking for a new place to have lunch that wasn't too expensive. This restaurant had a Prix Fix (3) course special. Actually, 4 different prices from Vegetarian for $10.95 thru Tandoori sampler for $16.95. Luckily, after reading a few reviews, I did make a reservation and it was needed, Pretty busy lunch scene. we were seated after a short delay, the wait staff was a little disorganized. the appetizers were freshly made and good, The main courses were nicely presented and on the generous size and flavorful. Dessert was a bit of a let down, small and bland. But by then we were pretty stuffed from the previous two courses. Overall, went in with no expectations and finished with a very decent meal and pleasant experience,"

"Every dish tastes exactly alike, and all are on the spicy side. The chicken in my chicken saag was like sawdust. Even the water here tastes terrible (which I remember from the last time I was there). Other than being attractive, this place has nothing to recommend it."

"We were looking for a place to have a good dinner and good conversation with friends, and we absolutely did! Everything we ordered was delicious, and the staff was very helpful in making suggestions. The restaurant was busy but not crowded, so it was not noisy and we never felt rushed. All the staff there was friendly, and the atmosphere was very comfortable. We highly recommend it and will be back!"

"Some of the best Indian food I have ever had. The place was empty at 6:00 on a recent Saturday night. Garlic naan was great; as was my lamb dish. My spouse ordered a vegetarian dish that was excellent, as was a tomato/yogurt preparation which provided a cooling counterpoint to the spice of the lamb and vegetables. With the rice accompaniment, there was too much food for us to finish. We were completely satisfied. Our entire bill was amazingly modest for the food quality and overall dining experience. We will return to this slightly out of the way TriBeCa restaurant on Murray Street."

"Beautiful decor. Great food, a bit on the spicy end for me, but very delicious. The service was spotty at best. My friend ordered Lamb biryani and they brought chicken and tried to convince her it was lamb. We waited for the drinks forever, but they were good. The second round of drinks came 2/3 full for some unknown reason. Otherwise, good outing. I would recommend this place."

"We had a company lunch for a group of nine. The food was very good and the lunch special was a great value. The only complaint was that the service was on the slow side, especially toward the end of the meal. Still, I would definitely recommend the restaurant and plan to return there again."

"First time at this restaurant. While the food was better than average Indian fare, the service was lacking. Waiters don't appear to be responsible for a given table, so service is confused; we had to ask 3 different people for water. Nevertheless, the food was interesting and well presented, so I'll give it a second try."

"The best indian food I have ever had! It has been 4 days now since we ate there and we are still revelling in their food. I can't wait to head back there. You can not go wrong with any of their dishs. The waiter's recommendations were spot on. We had the scallop and crab appetizers, the saag paneer, lamb (Rogan Josh), chicken tikka masala, the jumbo prawns, and finished with the Pistachio Kulfi. Everything was so delicious, including the naan and Raita. We will definitely be heading back to Benares very soon!"

"Solid Indian food, relatively well-priced for Tribeca. Had the Okra and a lentil dish, both were very good. Loved the different naan variations - really liked the garlic naan. Fruit naan was good, but didn't go extremely well with all of the other flavors in the meal."

"Pleasant everything and a nice addition to the neighborhood. We always forget not to order too much. For 3 people: 2 appetizers, 2 vegetarian mains, 1 salmon and garlic naan: we brought home lots but as with most leftovers threw them away (but not because they weren't good). We will return."

"Delicious Tandoori Salmon and Lamb Saag - greatly enjoyed how moist the fish and lamb were and the delicious flavors in the sauce, brought out by the spices and not overpowered with oil/grease. The vegetables that accompanied the salmon were amazing. Even though the salmon portion appeared small when it was first brought out, I was full with the amount thanks to the wonderful sauce and tandoori flavor."

"Really good Indian food. Flavorful without being spicy. Some unique dishes not found on menus of most Indian restaurants. Attentive service without being smothering. Affordable."

"An absolute gem of a restaurant. The food is divine and not something you would find in typical Indian restaurants. The "Kohlapuri Misal" is to die for. We are very much looking forward to dining at Benares again the next time we are in New York."
