The Dalloway
Tucked away on a lovely tree lined street in the heart of SOHO, The Dalloway is a two-level restaurant and cocktail lounge. Upstairs, guests at The Dalloway (whose name is inspired by Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway) can enjoy a glass of wine and an array of American small plates in a warm, candle lit space. Downstairs, order off the bar menu and indulge in a variety of eclectic and inventive cocktails. The menus at The Dalloway are strikingly adventurous with amazing twists on American small plates and are designed so guests can order large or small portions without "over ordering" or breaking the bank. While the format of the space is "lesbian implied", due to owners' Amanda Leigh Dunn and Kim Stolz strong influence in the New York City lesbian scene, the space will create an open platform for everyone who enjoys good food and well stocked bars.

"I picked Dalloway from the Open Table list and chose it because our group loves a small plates restaurant. What a find. The food was terrific with plenty of different menu options. The crowd was young and eclectic. We are neither!!!! Given that, the staff was warm, helpful and very well-trained. The waiter who called me "hon" and then apologized was just too cute. I really recommend this restaurant and hope it gets more traffic!"

"Food was delicious. We ordered 5 items and shared them. Most everything was great though the fried chicken (that's usually delicious) was overwhelmingly spicy. We sent it back like conscientious restaurant goers. The busser was awesome and funny, apologized profusely. The wait staff didn't and left it on the bill. We were a little annoyed but the miso glazed cod, hanger steak and dessert made up for it.

"Small plates really does mean small... However the small amount of food that came for each dish was excellently prepared. We had the Ahi Tuna, Crispy Duck, Mac and Cheese and the Tortellini. All were fantastic. It's been said before, but don't come here very hungry unless you want to leave with a large dent in your wallet. On a side note, the cocktails sounded great but weren't up to the standard I was expecting for $14-15. I had a Steamboat and the proportions of alcohol to soda/juice was off, making the drink pretty overpowering. All-in-all this is a great place to go for a quite bite to eat. The bar downstairs was also good fun."

"The waitress was a gem! The hostess was wonderful and accommodated our request to change our seating. I was disappointed with the seating arrangement in the dinning area. It remaindered me of an elementary school lunch room. It was basically lines of wooden tables and benches. So if you really want a romantic dinner or some privacy with your loved one or group this is not the place! The food was pricey and the portions very small forcing you to order two of everything. If you are hungry not a good place to eat. The down stairs part was cute but the bartender wasn't very friendly or warm. The tables were way to low making it difficult to eat your food if you chose to eat in that area."

"We had an offer from Gilt City and had never heard of The Dalloway so we gave it a shot. The menu is divided in a very creative way and we re allowed to select different things from each section. It made the meal more fun. Even bettter, the food, drinks and services were fantastic. The place had people in it but we could still carry on a nice conversation without it being too loud. We will be back!"

"Decor was chic and elegant... Ambiance was chill, sexy and laid back yet energetic. Make sure to try a cocktail despite the high costs - totally worth it for "something different". Plates are relatively small but the food is exquisite. I repeat, exquisite. There is something on the menu for everyone (unless your super picky and bland). We went with a group of 6 and easily shared several tapas. Service was attentive, knowledgeable and attractive. Two thumbs up all around! Kudo's to the chef."

"Not quite up to expectations: more appropriate for a younger, more 22nd C. crowd. Service was properly attentive, not too much so. The food was very good, but quite expensive for hors d'oeuvre- sized entrees. (We were warned by server). Best were oysters. Wine list could have been more adventurous: that function was left to cocktails, surprising and archly tasty.

"My first time at the Dalloway was a success. The food was great, although a little pricey but I expected that because of the location. "Truly some of the worst service I have experience in New York, or anywhere, for that matter. The waitresses looked and acted like they were 15 years old. We were seated for at least 20 minutes before someone took our order. Disorganized in delivery of food (wrong beer, brought other guests' food to us, course delivery poorly timed). For a new restaurant, this place should be striving for perfect execution. Perhaps I'll return to the bar, but definitely not to the restaurant.
If it were not for the food being quite tasty, the experience from beginning to end would have been unpleasant."

"Went with a group of long-time friends on a Thursday night. This is a great addition to the New York scene. We were there early (6 p.m.) so we had plenty of space to start the night with a drink in the downstairs bar. Dinner followed at 7 p.m.. The food was pretty tasty. A bit expensive for what it was but we'll definitely be back. Wish a place like this was around when we were in our 20s! (We're all now in our 40s and 50s.)"

"Food was really good, but salty. I loved the small-plates approach. There was one waitress for the whole upstairs and she held her own pretty well. We would go back, but drink lots of water!"
