"Food was a little on the expensive side, but absolutely fabulous. Look forward to going again. They try to source everything as locally as possible. Most of it from around Georgia or the southeast. There are very few nice upscale places in middle Georgia that live up to the price service and food wise. This is definitely one of them."

"The the food and service were top notch, i dug the ambiance except for the music but it wasn't that big a deal. For anyone exceptionally hungry though, I have to recommend getting an appetizer and/or first course to go with your entree though as the sizes of everything seemed to be a little on the small size for someone with a large appetite. Everything was cooked and tasted exceptional, however. I also have to recommend Matt as a server, he did a great job."

"We went for our anniversary, and had a wonderful time. Service was very good, and the restaurant atmosphere was very pleasant.
The food was absolutely delicious! The put-ups (appetizer) were great. Decided to try several of the small plates, instead of getting entrees. I'd definitely recommend the veal, the scallops, and the ham fritters. (The crab tower, not so much.) Can't wait until the next special occasion comes around; we'll definitely want to return!"

"Varied menu with different choices. Our friend had put ups which was French bread with humus, spicy pimento cheese, bacon marmalade and smoked trout dips which were very good. I had a lobster roll which was also quite good. However, my husband's duck salad was awful as the duck was mostly gristle. He pointed this out to the waiter who did not offer to bring him another dish nor did the restaurant remove the item from our bill. For entrees we had the salmon which was good but not outstanding and rack of lamb which was very good. We finished off our meal with lemon panna cotta which was excellent. The wine list offered a good selection of wines and other adult beverages. The restaurant is up a flight of stairs."

"We've been to Dovetail four times, including their New Year's Eve Price Fixe menu, and every time we go the food is outstanding. It is southern-inspired with a "foodie" flair. We consider ourselves very adventurous and appreciative eaters, and we are amazed that a restaurant with an advanced palate such as this exists in Macon. There are two drawbacks: 1) We valeted our car (which is complimentary), but our most recent time, the valet driver had left before we had. It took us half an hour to track down our keys. 2) It's next to impossible to get someone from Dovetail on the phone, and when you do, they seem distracted. We spoke to the owner(s) once and they lost our reservation. Make your reservations on Opentable!"

"There was only one leafy salad. I did not care for it with colorless lettuce and my egg was raw not poached. I rate restaurants on the salad; and the Dovetail did not do so well. My Shrimp and Grits entree was very tasty, but the men in the party thought 3 tablespoons of grits and 3 shrimp was a little too lite for for their dinner. The fritters were super the we had for our appetizer. The pricing was expected and the quality was great. I do not know if my husband and the other couple will return or not. But I hope you are very successful in Macon. Our city needs more upscale fine dining.

"Excellent meal at Dovetail. We stuck with apps and small plates as first-timers who wanted to sample the menu. The ham fritters and oysters were delicious. The outstanding small plate was the veal tenderloin but we really enjoyed the duck, ribs and scallops as well. Great place for cocktails and the whiskey and bourbon flights were savored by all. The Breckenridge bourbon was especially good.
The service was excellent. Out waiter gave us good advise on choices and was very knowledgeable about the wine and spirit list. The ambiance was very nice and the restaurant filled up but still felt intimate. Dovetail food is locally sourced and the restaurant is a fine addition to the renewed Macon downtown scene. We'll go back soon."

"Our first evening at Dovetail, along with another couple, was a most enjoyable experience. We arrived early and had a quiet location. The staff and service, were extremely accomodating with all our request, we never felt rushed. Let us not forget to mention the great cocktails and wine selection. Dovetail is a wonderful added GEM for Macon, Georgia with a more upscale feel. The Chef truly has a talent for fine dining along with more casual selections if you choose. We tried an assortment, which you have many to decide from. All were seasoned to perfection. From what we understood, most selections are locally grown and brought in when available."

"This was our first visit to Dovetail and we were not disappointed!! The food was excellent and the service was great. We started with the Butcher's Block app with duck prosciutto, head cheese, chipolatas, ... all were tremendous. My wife and I like variety so instead of entrees we had four small plates. We both had sea scallops along with piri piri quail and seared duck breast. The quail was a bit spicy but perfectly cooked. The duck was the best thing I had all night. We ended with tuxedo cheesecake to top off an extraordinary meal. We will definitely be back!"

"I was incredibly impressed with Dovetail. With another (unnamed) fantastic fine dining option in Macon, I was somewhat hesitant to splurge on somewhere else. Dovetail, however, did not disappoint. The food and service was excellent. I ordered the pork chop entree and it was fantastic. My fiancee got the shrimp and grits, which was also excellent. Also, the cocktails are delicious."

At first the place seemed very noisy; all the hard surfaces really bounce the sound, but after sitting down at our table, I noticed that the noise helped insulate our conversation from others.
The food was wonderful and creative. Several unique takes on traditional dishes from the Oysters Dovetail to the Apple Cheddar cobbler. Presentation was lovely, the quality of dishes excellent and service enthusiastic. We enjoyed our evening very much."

"I was disappointed in this restaurant. The food, although imaginatively described on the menu, did not rise to the level of expectation set by the descriptions. The Jezebel sauce and butter on the cornbread appetizer was quite nice. Other than that, I wasn't impressed in the least. The sweet tea creme brulee was the biggest disappointment. It looked muddy and had no distinctive flavor at all."

"A group of 8 of us had dinner here last week, a post-holiday company gathering. I knew the place was fairly new but had heard good things and read several reviews. My overall comment on Dovetail is it probably the best food in Macon, a city sorely in need of this quality of an establishment.
To echo other review (on Open Table and elsewhere) Timothy is one of the finest waiters I've met in recent memory. He's honest about the menu, pleasant, and always on top of things.
The restaurant prides itself on local sourcing, to the extent possible (seafood being somewhat of the exception). The menu was unique and every sauce/accroutrement paired very nicely with the main ingredient. We were not disappointed with any dish. I'll be returni"
