In The Year 1919 The Condado Vanderbilt Hotel was built by the legendary Vanderbilt family under the direction of renowned architect Whitney Warren whose other landmark designs include Grand Central Terminal
"This is the best restaurant in Puerto Rico by far. The elegant renovation recently done to the Vanderbilt is the perfect environment for an outstanding dinner evening. Chef Juan Jose Cuevas was a pleasant surprise with his superb menu. The pumpkin soup offered at the beginning was delicious. The roasted organic mushrooms as an appetizer were outstanding. As main dishes we had the merluza with mussels and tomatoes and the duck confit. Both were out of this world. And the best part is the dessert. Get the vanilla panna cotta with mango and caramel or the rum soaked lady fingers mascarpone. All the best to Chef Cuevas. He is exceptional. Nothing to envy from a top New York restaurant. At the same standard as Eleven Madison or Bouley."

"My experience was ok. Excellent service and ambience. The food was average and too expensive. The rations were small but I expected that. The flavor was a little bland for my taste. Bread was superb! I had Lobster salad, Duck as main dish and as dessert a Pannacotta. From the three I liked the dessert. The salad and main dish were cooked perfectly but the flavor wasn't there."

"This restaurant has no soul and no definite food style. It has a long ways to go to acheive the prominence that it seeks. This is the second time that I have gone and it has been disapointment."

"From the moment you walk in, you know you are about to experience something extraordinary. And then it only gets better. Standard of service is off the charts, attentive without being intrusive, and above all highly professional. The menu is creative, gastronomic excellence. We had the prix fixe, at $70 it is reasonably priced way to sample. I recommend the salmon. Excellent wine list with generous pours on the single glass selections. The champagne cart is a superb idea. We tried the brut rose and really enjoyed it. Don't miss it! We are going back again - twice in one week!"

"We went to 1919 for our 8th Anniversary, although the service was very good (especially Jerry the sommelier, he was super nice)
on the other hand I do feel mislead and deceived, the reason I say this is because we were offer the chef dining experience (where the head waitress comes and says that the chef cooks on especial occasions and that he is not sure what the chef is going to cook, or how many dishes he is going to create or how much money is going to cost) but that it is a unique experience one to remember for the rest of our life and we bought it since it was our anniversary. too later reilazed that all dishes are pre made and no head chef made them, we to close the chef dining experience short as I was ready to cut my loss"

"I've been an Open Table user for years now and this is the first time that I feel compelled to write about a restaurant. WOW!!! What a place! The hotel that this restaurant is in is absolutely breathtaking and utterly elegant. The bar is fabulous and overlooks the ocean. The entire restaurant from the food, ambiance, service, luxury is TOP NOTCH and absolutely the VERY BEST I've ever experienced. No snobbery...just a passion for excellence...Do NOT miss this once in a lifetime experience.......you won't regret it. Very soon this will be known as one of the top restaurants in the world, and then unfortunately, we probably won't be able to get a reservation again....So glad I had this chance!"

"First Visit. Lots to say.. The room and hotel lobby are Gorgeous. Service was Fantastic 6 of us each got the Prixe Fixe at $70. First encounter was the Champagne offerings...This was a turn off and seemed a bit much. It was not clear if our server, Neal was also the Maitre'd but he was very helpful as was the server Neil (they joked about who spelled it right) the bread server was great as were his offerrings lavash and onion rolls the best. Multiple tastes compliments of the chef were a very nice touch. The starters and 1st courses Soup, tuna and pastas were all delightful, the Entres needed some refining, The halibut was great! the veal loin and cheek...cheeks were delish loin was undercooked, too much skin on bass"

"Wonderful experience. Staff was very attentive. Eduardo the captain was very entertaining. We had the chefs tasting menu and most of the dishes were very good. Wine pairing was spot on except for one course. Will be back."

"My review after my first visit to 1919 was all 5 stars, outstanding in every way. At that time I said that 1919 is "certainly one of Puerto Rico's best!... Highly recommended".
Thus, on my second visit my expectations were very high. And 1919 was even better than the first time. My friend and I each ordered a four course prix fixe dinner, in which we were able to choose among several alternatives for each course. All dishes served to both of us were outstanding, extraordinary, as was also the service that we received from captain Eduardo and his team. In what he does, Eduardo is the best.
1919 is Puerto Rico's top restaurant for truly fine dining; and it compares favorably with top restaurants in Paris and New York. Do not miss 1919."

"We had an amazing time at 1919. The food was delicious, the service was outstanding, and the ambiance was spectacular. Our captain, Eduardo, was very well knowledge of the menu. He took his time to explain item by item, but at the end he convince us to order the chef table. That was the best decision we could have made. We have dine in the best reataurants all over the world, including Zalacain, Akelarre and Botin in Spain but we had never had such a tasteful dish. The restaurant was booked but still Eduardo was paying attention to every detail and made an unforgettable night. We never had such a top notch service. He made us feel like he was part of our family. The manager was also very attentive"

"The food was very good to, at times, excellent throughout the four course tasting menu we had. My primary issue is with the service. We did not get to place an order until 45 minutes after we sat down. Our "captain" Eduardo completely forgot our question on wine and then disappeared, so our first course had arrived before we even got our pre-dinner cocktail. Service was overall extremely slow, despite tons of waiters. Worst of all they charged us for a $70 half-bottle of Brut they had tried to push on us when we first sat down, probably thinking we were too mentally exhausted by that point to notice the additional charge (we did). Overall food is very good, but be prepared for long waits, confused staff, and possible price gouging."

"Party of 8 "foodies" who like to dine at fine dining restaurants. The ambiance, food, service was amazing! Hoping this restaurant sets a "new" bar for dining in PR!!
The hotel is not yet open but the lobby bar/outdoor terrace is beautiful, vibrant, and amazing place to gather for drinks. Forget South Beach!!!"

"WOW, this is a great restaurant, certainly one of Puerto Rico's best! Do not miss 1919 if you like haute cuisine, served in an elegant , spacious setting by an attentive but not obtrusive staff. Dress code is upscale casual. 1919 is truly an outstanding restaurant. Highly recommended."

"Fabulous new addition to the San Juan culinary scene. We had the 4 course prix fix menu and loved it so much, we came back the next evening for a special 8 course suggested by the chef. Fish and seafood are clearly the chef's strong suit but the short ribs were also amazing. Service was extraordinary and our server, Luis, made us feel like he was personally entertaining us in his own home, very special. Prices are reasonable for the value received in both food and ambience. Wine prices were especially affordable for the quality. Fun fact: ask about Coqui, the house noisemaker."

"Long awaited, 1919 is a very nicely designed bar and restaurant, fitting of its legacy. However, it seems to be trying way too hard and not delivering on the expectation. In short, the dinner meal was good, not great, and for the price point I would not return for dinner. It is great to see San Juan add a very high end quality venue to its offerings, except while 1919 delivers a high end ambiance, it falls far short in delivering a high end culinary experience. My suggestion is to ratchet down the pricing and expectations a notch and get established as a unique, quality place to drink and dine. After achieving that, then elevate (if still desired) to a NYC Four Seasons restaurant want to be."

"Fantastic dinner. We did the chef's prix fixe dinner with a wine pairing and what an experience. From the amuse bouche--a clear tomato broth--to hamachi served on a thin piece of octopus to a sous vide salmon, and a spectacular cauliflower dish, to the finale--a cochinita course, so perfect, unlike any I have ever had. All served with wines that matched perfectly. All the details were of the level you'd expect. In fact, I'd go back for the onion rolls. My guess is that this brand-new restaurant with its superstar chef will be a destination when the hotel opens."

"I went to the restaurant when they opened.. My experience was amazing, the food was great. But I recently went for a romantic dinner and the experience was different. The food was disappointing, the ravioli was tasteless, the portobello mushrooms were ok , the risotto had some walnuts inside and competed with the flavor of the truffle shavings. The cod fillet was tasteless, I ordered the wagu beef ( the description given was amazing) but it really was a very small potion about 3 ounces for $48 and was tasteless. When we ordered the dessert we asked if it would be enough for two, yes they said it was a big portion.... We ordered the molten cake wrapped in filo...What a surprise it was the size of a spoon and the ice cream was half a spoon."

"Our second visit to 1919 and it won't be the last. Excellent food, excellent service. The menu changes frequently based on seasonal ingredient availability, so each visit has a new favorite. The homemade breadsticks and flatbread are light and super crunchy. The tasting menu is a great choice if you want to taste a little of everything. The venison and short rib are out of this world, as is the osobucco fusilli. We also had the fish and the scallop special, both delicious. And the warm chocolate cake is not to be missed!"

"One of the best restaurants enywhere, and we have seen many 5 stars restarants around the world... Eager to please their customers they will work around individual restrictions to enable the entire table doing the fantastic Chef's tasting menu with wine pairing. Great attitude in everyone you meet in this restarant. Wide variety in the wine list, great Champagne by the glass options."
