Over 92 years ago Jesucita Mijares fled the revolution in Mexico searching for a new life for her family. After settling in Pasadena she opened a small tortilla factory. It quickly became known for its tiny restaurant featuring Jesucitas's original recipes, tortillas, tamales, and sauces made with her metate stone grinder carried from Mexico.
"The best part about this restaurant is that it has a nice ambience and will accommodate your group on a moment's notice. It's good for work lunches because the food is comfort food, and everyone can find something there they like."

"Big Fans. We have enjoyed the great food and service over the years. However, the service on our most recent visit was not as good as usual. I'm sure it was a fluke and will not deter our future visits."

"Unfortunately, the restaurant had to close from 12:30 to 6:00 due to plumbing problems and had to cancel our reservation at the moment we arrived.. there must have been over 300 people unable to eat on this important day."

"Took my mom there for mothers day brunch. The staff was very nice and accommodating. There was a very wide selection of food in the brunch. The ceviche was very good and the omelette bar was also very good. There was enough variety to satisfy those trying to eat healthier and those that really don't care. I can't say I found any food there that I did not like and I am normally very picky when it comes to buffet style foods. The desserts were all very tasty. The fresh made tortillas were awesome. I would definitely go back there again."

"There were 8 of us for Mothers Day and I can say the service was outstanding on that very busy evening. The food was good, especially the beef tacos which I will be ordering again! We were seated quickly and soon had drinks in front of us along with chips and salsa. We will be going back!"

"It's a great restaurant overall. Food is great. The problem I have is that the service is extremely slow. I had a 1:30 reservation for my group and I was there for 3 hours. Too long to first bring your drinks and then your food."

"Enjoyed a lengthy lunch with high school friends meeting for the first time in 43 years. We received excellent service and felt welcome. There was no rush for us to finish and relinquish our table. The waiters obliged us by taking photos with ALL our iPhones!!Mijares is a place where parking is not a problem and the food is absolutely delicious. Later that day I ordered the exact same meal in another local Mexican restaurant. There was no comparison. Mijares had the best meal!!!"

"Maybe they were understaffed that night but our waiter was very busy running around all over the place. The food was good to okay, some in our party said the food was too salty. This place is made for those who like the notion of "Mexican" food but its commercialized "Mexican" food. I always judge the quality of the food by how “HOT” the hot sauce is and how good the rice and beans are. And they were obviously made for the masses."

"We are a group of 14 and we meet once a month in various restaurants. We always request seating other than the typical long skinny table, and that request is frequently ignored. Mijares, however, was very accommodating. We were on the covered patio with four round tables pushed together, forming a four leaf clover, if you will. It was lovely. We could all see each other and could even talk across the expanse. The all you can eat buffet was only $10 and included beverage and dessert. It was delicious! There were numerous choices: You could build a Mexican salad, tacos, burritos, etc. It was a lovely, relaxed atmosphere and we will definitely return soon. Diane M. DellaValle"

"In a word... LOUD... Lots of kids, means it's a pretty good family spot. You have a choice of inside or outside dining. My wife and I chose inside, which was a mistake on this Saturday evening since besides the table with 3 babies, there was the 20 or so late teen/early 20s folks at a long table. We were still able to converse, until the two guitar players set up just over my shoulder and began to play and sing. Volume went up from there. So if you're looking for a family or group get together and you don't mind loud places, I would recomend Mijares. It's a good place for a fun group and the food was very good. But if you're looking for a quiet dinner for two, this might not fit the bill."

"We brought friends/In-laws from South Dakoda on Friday nite. It was quick, delicious and the servers were very attentive. We also injoyed Mariachi, always an important part of the ambience. Made reservations on line and got the table we were promised."

"I knew there was going to be a problem when my margarita came out all yellow. All Cointreau and no tequila. I've had better store-bought guacamole. It had absolutely zero zip to it. The salsa was watery. My shrimp were rubbery and flavorless."

"The food was ok. The fish on my grilled fish taco was very salty. Our son did not care for the chile verde but liked the chile Colorado. Overall nice place but over priced for the quality of food. Won't go back. We have had better for more reasonable price plus parking is difficult."

"Food was great. Best nachos I have had for a long time. Bowl of chips they give you when you sit down is tiny, however, they keep refilling. Our group had chili verde, tacos, enchiladas and split the fried ice cream for dessert. Service was ok and had to flag the waiter a few times."

"It is a typical Mexican restaurant but several of its dishes are very good though they may be basic. The taco's are large and very tasty and the burrito's come highly recommended. It is noisy and there are usually plenty of kids."
