Four Generations of Fine Italian Cuisine! Boston’s historic North End is known for its many Italian restaurants. Over the last 80 years, many of these establishments have come and gone. None have stood the test of time quite like Mother Anna’s. Established in 1932, Mother Anna’s has passed through four generations of families. John Caparella, along with his three sons, have carried on the tradition that his grandmother started 79 years ago.
The last 20 years have brought on many changes in the North End. The number of restaurants have gone from the single digits, back in the early days, to close to a hundred. Also, the old Central Artery that had divided the North End for so many years, has since disappeared.
Mother Anna’s has now become the gateway to the North End. On a beautiful summer night, a table on the now famous patio gives customers a view of the Boston skyline that can only be experienced at Mother Anna’s. Mother Anna’s should not be missed!
"Wow they must have put a cup of oil in each pasta dish! Went there for the gluten free pasta, but it was horrible. They use corn pasta which is awful. Not sure why when you can get delicious rice pasta that even non-GF people like! The tomato sauce tasted raw like it was a can of crushed tomatoes not even cooked! Wait staff was nice. Would never return here, also way overpriced!"

"We were a group of 8 from different states in Boston for a research conference. Our waiter Ray was probably the best part of the evening. He got all the orders right, was very personable and attentive, and had a sense of humor. He accommodating our need to process multiple credit cards.
Each round of food was delivered to the entire table at the same time with an appropriate lapse in between. The food flavor was very good, the portions were large enough to easily share. I would have rated the food VERY GOOD overall, but I do not like dishes where the entree is swimming in sauce. This is a minor detraction--we took our leftovers and ate them the next day. I would absolutely return and will in June when we go to a Sox game."

"Had a great dinner. Appetizer of mozzarella and red peppers marinated in oil came with crusty bread. Creamy Italian dressing atop house salad was delicious. Went with pasta and little necks -- arrived in generous portion with amazingly flavorful clams."

"It's old school North End but couldl use an update in decor. Server was friendly but we had to ask her to tell us the specials -- and it's not like she was too busy to do so. Food was fine-- for old school Italian but there are better options in the North End."

"If you want a reasonably priced restaurant with good food in the North End, Mother Anna's is the place. We had a party of 9 for a birthday dinner and the check, including tip, was less than $300. The food arrived quickly, the service was attentive, and we were seated in a side room which had windows overlooking the street scenery. I highly recommend it."
