"Barraca is an attractive open space that has a Spanish feel. We only had tapas so I can't comment on the paella or other main dishes. The coca de salmon stood out, as did the shrimp in saffron sauce. Although the waiter promoted the croquetas, the four of us found them bland. My husband, the meat lover, liked the chunks of lamb (cordero). The delicately fried potatoes that come with the little chunks of fried fish were very good, the fish itself not so interesting. The coca de rasberries we had for dessert was very good, not too sweet and very refreshing. The service was speedy but a little pushy. They seem to really want to make money from drinks, the waiter asked us twice to order drinks before we had a chance to look at the menu."

"The restaurant is very attractive, but the food was mixed. Some dishes were very good - the octopus appetizer and the deviled eggs were standouts - but, as others have commented, the paella was way too salty. The steak for 2 was fine, but came out overcooked. We also had a long delay for our paella to be served. The staff was very apologetic and comped us an appetizer as a result. Overall, it was an okay experience but I wouldn't rush to go back."

"Hostesses are kind, helpful and charming. They are sisters (twins) and helped my friend and I find our way uptown from Greenwich Village. Food portions are relatively larger than other tapas restaurants. Recipes are innovative and presentation was A+. Will be back."

"Awesome paella. We got the Tierra Paella and it was delicious. We also had pan con tomate and a flat bread with grilled veggies and they were just okay--not on the same level as the paella."

"Wonderful service, great food. It was a friends 25th birthday and they not only brought her a special cocktail for the occasion but then brought desert for the table. The manager checked in on us throughout the meal to make sure we were happy. Will definitely be returning."

"So good. Convivial atmosphere and highly accommodating staff (asked to move away from large, loud party of six or more; not a problem). Best go early for quiet experience. Third time and food is consistently good, fresh, complex, well-conceived and authentic - with a great wine list and sommelier to boot. My only hint for would-be patrons is always remember to not mix up Greenwich St. and AVENUE and get lost. As I've done every time, as a local.. Good for burning off a few calories, though, in the nicest of neighborhoods. A pleasure.
Particularly enjoyed the Croquetas de Setas y Pollo app (do split, as it's rich), flatbreads, ensalada de remolacha. Next up? Paella night."

"Great brunch in a beautifully open space with a comfortable, modern design. Expecting nothing less from the Rayuela/Macondo team, this was great. This was needed on the West side. Pimms w fresh ginger cocktail paired w delicious pancakes and duck confit coca is the way to go! Service comfortable, easy, neighborhoody. Thank you Pablo."

"We went to brunch at Barraca, and it was absolutely horrible. When we arrived at the restaurant for brunch, it was empty except for 2 other tables. It took over 15 mins for a waiter to come by and take our drinks order. When we received our drinks, our coffee was cold and they forgot my husband's orange juice. Then, it took them 40 more mins to come by and take our food order. For three of us, the food came out fairly quickly, but my husband's meal came out after we had all finished eating (10/15 mins later). The worst part was that the food was not good. We ordered 4 egg dishes, 2 dulches and a salad. Nothing was good and most of the items were actually bad. This was an awful brunch experience and I will NEVER return to Barraca."

"Mind numbing noisy. We ordered two paellas, one crispy and one regular. They were both the same. One was almost too salty to eat. The service was very friendly and efficient. Lovely atmosphere. But did I have to leave with a headache?"

"This is a great restaurant, with a spectacular chef! Jesus Nunez is brilliant in the kitchen. He loves to create new food. His food is as artistic as it is delicious. Sometimes you don't want to destroy the painting in front of you, by digging in. But after you taste it, there's no longer a conflict. A new, fine dining experience will be added to this restaurant soon, and we can't wait! You can go for tapas and wine, or for a full dinner. The tapas are each worth having! Excellent wine choices, at reasonable prices. This place is mobbed, so reservations are advised."

"I went to Barraca with two friends this week. We tried two tapas -- the deviled eggs and the fondue, one salad -- the mixed green salad, and one paella -- the mariscos. I particularly adored the deviled eggs. So hard to find deviled eggs on any menu anymore, and these one were particularly good. I particularly enjoyed the ones with the red caviar and the black caviar toppings. The seafood paella was quite nice also, although I have to admit that I have not eaten a lot of paella in my life so I am no expert. The service was very good."

"Not impressed. The waiter was rude when we asked for clarification of the menu - he asked us where we were from - and then continued to be annoying throughout the entire meal -at the end he swooped in to grab the bill as it sat under my arm. The food was mediocre with very small portions. The sangria pitcher we ordered was three quarters ice with very little alcohol - would have been wiser to order a good bottle of wine. Will not recommend this restaurant, nor return."

"great experience, server engaged with us very nicely, it was packed and busy but all went good, just a few more minutes on the paella to get to our table.. drinks are great and very original like the sangrias, have never seen so creative sangrias. wine recommendation was excellent and, even though short, they have a great spanish wine list. food was very good! meatballs, lamb, brussels tapas were excellent. We got the seafood paella and it was just delicious
we will be back!!"

"Food was very good, tapas especially. We went with the Seafood Paella which, while good, was overly salty (as other reviewers have noted). Sangria was top notch. Service is spotty. When we arrived we were being harassed by the waiter until I had a private moment with the manager, Ironically when we were ready to leave we couldn't get anyone's attention. Still, go for the food."

"Our mistake was to try this tapas place, recently well-reviewed in the New York Times, on Valentine's Day. We were, of course, forced into a prix fixe menu that earned maybe a solid B. The worst offenders were the pate (very bland), dry bread, and the short ribs/mashed potatoes, which tasted more Southern (and maybe powdered!) than Spanish. Other dishes, like the fish, the charred kale and the fried milk, were quite good. In fact, the second course was the best, but unfortunately we only got to sample it after dessert, as the server forgot the course (luckily I didn't). Also, what tapas spot runs out of manzanilla sherry? All-in-all, not terrible, but service mistakes entitled us to a discount or something. Instead? Zero acknowledgement. :("

"The food was really great even for a pre-fix valentine's day meal. However, it seemed that the restaurant had the B squad on as our waiter forgot about us multiple times and had no idea what stage of the meal we were on. He even was bringing out incorrect courses for the people sitting next to us."

"I went to Barraca with my girlfriends for a pre-birthday dinner and I have to say that I was not disappointed. Everything was delicious. We ordered a few tapas and then shared the seafood paella. The food was to die for delish. I definitely want to go back there. The passion fruit white sangria was also extremely good. Trust me you won't be disappointed!!"

"Confusing when a restaurant makes such a big deal on the menu of the crunchy "Soccarat" on their Paella but doesn't deliver the promised crunch. I prefer to be surprised by things that exceed expectations, rather than menus that overstate what the kitchen can do."

"Food was good. However the service was disappointing: we had to call our waiter through another waiter 3 times after 10-15 minute wait, even to pick up credit cards. She was definitely a novice"

"Service was nearly non-existent - 3 waiters for the whole place, they had no chance to keep up. The 2 managers were standing around enjoying the scene and doing nothing. When the waiters did come by they were so rushed they poured beer into wine glasses, etc. The food was ok, cocktails not. The scene was fun though."

"Food was very good. We ordered several tapas and everything was tasty and well-prepared. House cocktails were also good. Service was friendly but spotty. Plates and silverware were taken away from us (and not replaced) between dishes, leaving us at one point with food but no utensils. A few large gaps between dishes, and an unusually long wait from delivery of last dish to seeing if we wanted dessert (we were there during a busy spot). Ambiance was fun and lively, verging on loud."
