The Port - St. James Hotel Reviews List

The Port - St. James Hotel

The Port is a fine dining restaurant located on the lower level of the historic St. James Hotel built in 1875. There are many original treasures to be found in the restaurant. Among them is the iron-gated wine cellar, once used as the hotel's bank vault. At the Port restaurant we serve Contemporary American and Midwestern food, from regional favorites to reinterpretations of classical dishes; all of our seafood is flown in fresh primarily from Alaska and the west coast. The Port is best known for sourcing the best quality seasonal ingredients available. Our menu changes frequently to reflect the current offerings from our region, delivering the best of our local bounty.

"Food was terrible. The steak had no flavor. It literally tasted like a hunk of meat. Menu was small and the food you got for the money was not worth it. We will not go back."

"Did not like the Ceasar salad. Very strange. The salmon is prepared barely cooked. Should warn us non-sushi eaters about that before we order it. And not much of a side dish with the salmon.
Loved the icecream.

"I shared aa entree with my sister and ordered a salad. Both the salad and entree were very tasty. Everyone at the table thought the food was very good. The only negative comment I heard was that there weren't enough beets in the beet salad."

"We were very unhappy with our experience at the Port. The waitress had a really bad attitude, and the meal was extremely disappointing: steak and ribeye were both pure fat (I had the steak, and even the bites that did make it in to my mouth were almost all fat). I still find it hard to believe that at least two of us were forced to remove food from our mouths with our napkins!!! Also, if my mom wants her ribeye "well done" it's not because she doesn't know better and wishes to argue about it, discuss why she shouldn't, or get met with an attitude; she simply doesn't like the texture of pink meat. Extremely disappointing experience, which was luckily made up for a bit by the lovely breakfast at the Candlelight Inn the following morning."

"Very creative menu and presentation. Excellent food. The service was very special and attentive. Very quiet for a Saturday night. Every table was subdued. Seemed like a a special, romantic occasion for many."

"My wife and I celebrated our 20th anniversary at the St. James and dined at the Tort. My wife also received a Swedish Massage at the hotel. The massage was the reason I chose the St James Hotel. The room was very nice. The people who greeted us were fabulous! The small suprises I asked to be in place to make this occasion memorable for my wife were ALL in place just like I had requested. I will recommend the Hotel and all of its ammenities. I am sure I will visit again."

"Menu items didn't contain enough detail. If you are serving a deconstructed salad, state so. Most people won't know what this is and if they are expecting a traditional Caesar's salad they will be disappointed (as my wife was).
The kitchen only prepared my main course. I ate mine and we waited for my wifes, which never came. After speaking with the manager her entre came out and a second portion of mine did as well.
Also the bottle of wine we ordered was not the bottle we recieved. It was poorly stored. This restaurant is pricey and not recommended."
