"This was our first experience with the Rail House... and will not be our last. The food was fantastic... I had the Aji Tuna... it was perfect!! The service was very slow... but since it was Mother's day and the restaurant was full... maybe it is understandable. It took over 20 minutes for a waiter to take our order and I would have liked to get at least some bread, since we had to wait over 45 minutes for our food to arrive. That did not happen. The wait was well worth for the wonderful food that followed. Next time we will try to avoid going during a special occasion like mother's day, to get better service."

"Wine selection was nice but they didn't have the wine I initially selected. Noticed that other tables received bread but we didn't. After the appetizer/soup course, the salads took a long time to come out. Then our entrees came out almost immediately after the salad. We were not in a rush but food did take a while overall."

"We went to the Rail House for Mother's Day brunch after going to the Iron Horse Inn (same restaurant, but new name and owners, presumably) for Mother's Day brunch in 2012. The food quality could not have been more different. Whereas the year before the buffet was wonderful, 2013 was a disappointment. The hash browns were the worst I have ever had in any restaurant, period. The desserts looked worse that store bought. Nothing stood out as outstanding at all. I will say that the buffet price was lower in 2013 ($19) vs 2013 ($30 to $35, I think). Still, for that money, I would have gotten a much better meal at First Watch. This is NOT the brunch to impress the hard working mother in your life."

"Went on a Friday night and it was crowded. Seated upstairs where band was playing so conversation was difficult due to the noise. Took about 20 minutes to get drinks, another 30 for our appetizer, and another 30 for entrees. Server did apologize and removed appetizer from bill...credit to her. Shrimp and Grits were quite bland and only had 5 shrimp. My son said the Cilantro Lime Chicken wasn't bad except that you really couldn't taste the cilantro or the lime. Other son had the $30 filet, which he said was OK, but I challenge whether it was 8oz, as advertised, and for $30 it should be more than OK. Wife's Prime Rib sandwich was a overcooked, but probably the bright spot other than that.
We had hoped for much more...won't be going back."

"Food presentation was great and everything tasted quite yummy. I had the Asian salad with shrimp and it was delicious. Noise level is amazingly low considering it is right next to the railroad tracks! After dinner we went upstairs for a drink and listened to a live band. I will definitely return to the Rail House."

"There were 4 of us visiting for the first time on a weeknight. We dined downstairs and then went upstairs to listen to a jazz band. The atmosphere was good, and we were able to watch 2 trains pass by as we dined. Two of us chose the same entree and the other 2 chose another entree the same. Mine/ours was excellent while the other choice, I was told, was just okay. The waiter was very good and very personable, and we really did have a good time. There is a great happy hour every evening until the live music begins. The food was a little pricey for the "more accessible" neighborhood place that they advertise. We will come back, but unfortunately not as often as we originally thought."

"The food was quite good, but the service was slow. We ate on the patio to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather. The entertainer signing on the patio was not very good and was much too loud for a patio that size."

"Went for brunch on Easter Sunday. Not good. Too many reservations taken! Long delays in being seated and people on top of each other. Not pleasant. Food was ok but not outstanding. Hash browns were dry and tasteless, crab legs were soggy and difficult to snap."

"I was not impressed. I went for Easter Brunch with family. I liked the omelet station, and crab leggs, salmon and shrimp. The pancakes I got off the buffet were cold. Initially they had no salads included in the buffet, one was added after a customer complained."

"Went for Easter brunch. Called restaurant a few weeks in advance to find out what was on the menu. They changed it drastically. Was told they made several changes. There were no salads or lunch items. Food was cold. They tried charging me for drinks but I mentioned it was originally included (on website menu and when I called) so they reversed it. Restaurant is under new management and obviously is still learning. Waiter was very sully didn't remember drink orders and only changed after I spoke to manager. AVOID!"

"I feel that this place would be good on an average day, they were not ready for the crowd on Easter. The buffet was tucked into a corner where people could not get around easily and the line was very long. When you got to the food it was no longer warm, but cold. There was no type of salads for those who would like one and variety was at a minimum. It appeared unorganized and not prepared. I did like that they had some raw oysters to chose and some crab legs (although I like mine warm or hot). The buffet was not worth the price we payed, not by a long shot."

"We were "promptly" seated 1 full hour after our reservation time. The all the "hot" food on the buffet was room temperature at best. We perceived that the Easter ham scraps that were set out, all dried and hard, had to be eaten before the staff would bring out some edible ham. The selection of buffet choices can be for the most part found at restaurants like Frisch's; nothing remotely creative or worth the $25/plate. Management could have made an attempt to reduce the the unpleasant experience but our perception is that they could have cared less. This used to be one of our favorite dining spots. Will not return."

"We had lunch and it was wonderful! Billy, our waiter, is the best. I don't think he has ever met a stranger! I had the burger and it was good but my friend had the Pan Asian Shrimp salad and it was not only delicious but a work of art! My second time here and a new favorite!"

"The Rail House has a great bar and live band schedule ABOVE the restaurant. At 7:30pm all we could hear in the dining room was the bass from upstairs drowning out the music and conversation. The food was good, but not for the price; $24 for gourmet mac and cheese with chicken, when the steak item above it on the menu was less. The atmosphere/decor is confusing--I couldn't tell what decade they were going for. Probably a decent place to go if you're local and the weather is warm; not worth the drive across town for me."

"Food was fabulous as was the service. We went for lunch on a cold snowy day. I had the Mac and cheese and it was wonderful. I blend of cheeses, in-house made pasta and huge portion. I took over half home and it made another complete dinner for my hubby and me. My friend had a lunch special, the chicken nacho salad with home made chips - excellent! First time there and will be back!"

"We had hoped for a better dining experience based on previous diners at the Iron Horse. Our salad arrived late and the entrees were served before we could complete our salad. Side dishes were not what we ordered. It took our server 25 minutes to clear our dishes before he presented desserts. We were sdaly disappointed in service and quality of the food."

"Had an 8:15 pm reservation and wasn't seated until 9:00 pm. There was a live full band playing on the second floor, which could be heard in the first floor dining (was very loud!!! Hostess was very nice. Food was good."

"It was crowded though we did get seated on time. The wait then got pretty long to place our order and then to get our food. Seemed like there were not enough waiters and the kitchen must have been swamped. My steak which was to be medium well, but it came red. My husband asked for a little red and he got a pretty red steak. I sent mine back and then waited quite a bit to get it. By that time my plate returned they had run out of the special potato dish and substituted with very bland boiled potato.
We had asked to see the special wine selection where you could purchase a bottle, but that never happened.
While we have enjoyed the restaurant when it was the Iron Horse, this visit left us with a less than favorable opinion."

"First , The good . The Apple and Brie appetizer was excellent. The Mac and Cheese was also very good. The bad. The prime beef sandwich had dry meat and was way overpriced. The ugly. The waiter forgot the salad and then apologized by bringing it during the entree. I was really hoping that the service had improved since it was the "Iron Horse" , but it hasn't . Also It was explained (by a very embarrassed waiter) that the Happy Hour wine and beer prices were ONLY good for bar patrons and NOT for people ordering food??? What??!!! Never heard that one before."

"One of our party ordered a reuben. It was served as a cold sandwich, not grilled as anticipated. The corn beef was also thick sliced, which made it very tough. Two other members of the party ordered the Scottish salmon. They said it was ok, but nothing they would order again. The salmon was advertised on the menu as $20.00 but on the bill it was rang up as $22.00. When we informed the server, he only took $2.00 of instead of $4.00. The service was slow and it took forever to get refills. There was a band upstairs and it felt like the ceiling was going to cave in. All we kept hearing was this boom, boom, boom."

"This review is for my experience in the main dining room which has a different atmosphere than the 2nd floor. The food and service were both very good. I was happy the new owner came around to see how everything was. My only complaints have to do with the ambiance and music. The main dining room is dated and the decor has not changed much under the new ownership. The wall color, wall decor, velour chairs and fake flowers and plants need to be replace with decor that would attract a younger set and make it more cozy. Also there was recorded music playing that has a very heavy beat - no very appealing. We'll return for the food but will likely sit in the 1st floor bar or outdoors when the weather changes. I wish the new owners success."
