Alex H was originally opened as “Gourmateque Restaurant” in 1982, located on St-Hubert street, it was already making headlines for it’s great food. Most notably the home made lasagna, still found on our menu on occasion. The man behind this was Alex himself.
Alex already had restaurant experience from some of Montreal’s greatest, such as, the Royal Embassy, Mother Martin, Grand Motor hotel, Elmridge country club, and the Ritz Carlton to name a few. Alex had decided he would want to offer the same fine dining experience at a more affordable rate.
Established in 1990, the original Alex H (on Monkland street) was family run for 10 years, until 2000, when it moved to Sherbrooke street where it is still found today.
Today a family trio runs the kitchen, Alex, his daughter Maria, and his son Edward. Every night they cook your meals with pride we hope you’ll take the chance to experience the pride and care that goes into making every dish at Alex H. Please BYO Liquor.

"Alex is a favorite of our group. Up to ten is o.k. the food is superior for a BYOB. The servers were very accomodating and pleasant. We were celebrating a birthday and they could not have been nicer. The chef even came to say hello to diners at their tables.French cuisine at a reasonable price. A gem indeed !"

"Had valentine dinner at Alex. The shrimp and scallop in a berry sauce was delicious and my partners filet mignon was outstanding! We just had to compliment the chef himself! Great menu all together for this special occasion. I have eaten at Alex's many times and I have never been disappointed. The young wait staff is always very friendly, the atmosphere is lovely and simple. Bringing your own wine is a bonus."

"Alex H est à quelques pas de chez moi, mais je n'y avais jamais été. Le décor est minimal et on peut y apporter son vin. J'ai été très agréablement surprise de la qualité de la nourriture et de l'accueil du personnel et je le recommande à tous ceux qui aiment bien manger."
