In addition to the award winning food, chef/owner Kevin Katz has personally selected every wine on the list of over one hundred labels of estate grown and bottled wines. The Red Onion boasts ten wines by-the-glass and a selection of hand-made cocktails all served in elegant stemware.
"I ordered liver and it was cooked to perfection, there was too much glaze on the plate under the liver, the veg were done perfectly, but again the green beans were swimming in the glaze. The desert was mixed berry crisp and it was excellent too. Over all I was very satisfied with my meal."

"The Red Onion is a favorite of ours as we've been coming here for years. The food is always consistently good as is the service. As with most restaurants these days it can get very noisy. In good weather there is are two outdoor porches. On the weekends you need to make a reservation since it is always full."

"Four of us, all from out-of-state, had an outstanding & delicious dinner at the Red Onion (a local relative recommended it), and we would return anytime! It was a great place to celebrate a birthday: cozy dining rooms, fascinating art photos on the walls, terrific service and excellent food! We each loved the dishes we ordered- from the smoked trout appetizer to generous portions of seafood risotto, superb lamp chops to saki martinis (perfectly made), to the rich brownie Sundae with a candle for our birthday celebrant- we enjoyed the experience tremendously!"

"This was our fourth visit to Red Onion restaurant. We take long weekends in Woodstock several times each summer and the Red Onion had been recommended to us some time ago by the Innkeeper. We had hesitated to go because of the restaurant's location slightly out of town, but have enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service each time we've gone. We now make Red Onion one of our regular spots for dining on weekends away."

"The mussels were awesome and I ended up eating so many as the appetizer that I ran out of room for my dinner. We would definitely go back for the variety of mussels - everything else we ordered was great as well. Our waitress was outstanding and she made sure we had everything we needed and everything was fine throughout our meal."

"Kevin Katz knows how to cook a perfect meal! A wonderful dining experience every time I go. The menu is online daily so I can look for new variations and wines so I can try something new but I always know my favorite foods are there too. Great value too compared to other restaurants in the area. It is a fine place to dine."

"My husband and I have been to The Red Onion on several occasions and never have had a bad meal or experience. We have gone alone, with another couple and a party of 8 and it has always been a very enjoyable time. This time we went on Valentine's Day and I was happy to see that they didn't create a special "Valentine's" menu for the evening. Our meal was delicious: raw oysters, Thai mussels, steak frites, baby back ribs, apple fritters and berry crisp. Add the drinks and wine....yum! The only negative was a slight draft from a window at my back. Once the warm food came, it wasn't as much of a concern."

"We find the Red Onion consistently very good. You can have a special occasion meal with all the trimmings, or a simple meal at the bar, or anything in between. We especially like the three different mussel dishes, all of which are delicious. The also run specials (like a low-cost moules frites with a drink on Mondays for $17, and 1/3 off bottles of wine on Tuesdays. I've never had a bad meal there."
