Acappello is Montclair’s newest addition to the restaurant community. From the moment you step inside this establishment, you will be swept away to the Mediterranean. The inviting open atmosphere includes exposed brick walls, custom archways and a lofted mezzanine that overlooks the main dining room. Each dining room has its own unique backdrop which was delicately hand painted to enhance the ambiance for each guest.

"It was Mother's Day, our party of 4 adults were a minute early for our 6 30 res..after searching 15 min for a parking space. The hostess was not at the front desk, one waiter swept by to ask without making eye contact our name and time of res...and there were empty tables all over. Finally. Ten min later we were seated. They never brought bread until we asked and when we asked for more they said they ran out. This place is a disgrace!"

"We would have thought they would bring great Italian food along with Montclair service. They never filed water. Never checked on us. The dishes were small and the fish dishes were fishy. If they opened up in Lyndhurst ok. But if you are on Bloomfield avenue and most dishes are 30 then you need to do better."

"Atmosphere was fun and the food was excellent -- but horrible service. Impossible to flag down the waiters, no one checking on us, 40 minutes to get appetizers and 1 hour thereafter for entrees. We also has a spill at the table and no one helped us clean up or operating a new tablecloth. We were going to order dessert but did not want to saint another hour."

"The shared pasta first course for 2 of the 4 diners was not served and the waiter had disappeared. When another waiter was called over after 10 minutes and informed, he checked with the kitchen and apologized. The original waiter still was nowhere to be found. The first course eventually arrived (still no first waiter to be seen) undercooked and tasteless. My main course, salmon, was bland. I don't want to be contacted by the restaurant since I will never eat there again."

"The sausage appetizer was excellent and the staff was accommodating in preparing an off-menu entre for my date, who enjoyed it. My only complaint is that the seafood ravioli special that I had for an entree consisted of four ravioli's swimming in a somewhat overpowering sauce.

"The Hostess was a very sweet and welcoming when we walked in, this was a first date for myself and the girl I brought with me. The waiter was pleasant and friendly, always kept asking how we were (but not being annoying about it). The appetizers we had were the clams casino and the shrimp in a ginger honey sauce, were both delicious. For our main course, I had the stuffed chicken with asparagus and she had the fettucini cara mia, both were very very good. Then after we finished our dinner we then polished off our wine, we definitely will be back soon to try other stuff on their menu."

"Nice setting, but it went a little wrong when the courteous but forgetful staff didn't bring several requested items (from no lemon with the water to not getting the espresso ordered with the dessert......too many "I'm so sorries" by the polite but forgetful staff)....plus we ordered a main course which although prepared well, was smothered in tomato sauce (gravy) while the tomato portion of the dish was nowhere described in the menu.....we are not big fans of tomato sauce, but we got through it since we didn't want to order another dish. Nothing spectacular to make me/us come back."

"We had a large party last Saturday night so they put us in the room as soon as you walk in to the right which was once a wine store. It is all glass and they have a serious heating problem. Which I am guessing they realize since they had a space heater on the floor which was by me so I was warm but the people at the end kept getting up and coming to our end of the table because they were freezing. The waitress stood at the end of one table and yelled at everyone, "Who wants appetizers?" and just took a count instead of coming to each of us and asking. This made it very confusing, she missed half of our orders and then messed them up when they came out. She was seriously the worst waitress I have ever had."

"Had the most awful experience last night. Our reservations were at 8. At 10, not only had we not received our food but no one in the entire seated area had either. The waiters would not explain what was happening. When the food came out from the kitchen finally, after hours, the waiters stood in the center of the room not know who to give it to. Finally, after threatening to leave in 2 minutes (after 2 1/2 hours now), they brought out mediocre dishes. My friend's tuna was completely inedible and was sent back. No offer to compensate for this horrendous meal were made, and we will never be going back."

"My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Acappello's. We split a very large portion of calamari for an appetizer. My wife had gnocchi bolognese and I had filet mignon. The gnocchi was freshly made and my wife said it was the best she's ever had. A big compliment from someone whose favorite dish is gnocchi. The filet was perfectly cooked and the gorgonzola cheese added a nice flavor to the dish. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable. The only downside is they don't have a liquor license. The waiter did offer to send someone up the street to a liquor store for us but we declined. It was nice for them to offer especially since it was raining out. So if you go, remember to bring your own wine and/or beer."

"Acappello Ristorante has great decor and the design is unique which creates the warmth you feel upon entrance. The Calamarii was tender and cooked perfectly. The porcini ravioli was delicious. The truffle cream sauce added the correct amount of sweetness that complimented the earthiness of the mushrooms. The noise level was high even without the restaurant being full. The service needs some polishing. Our plates were cleared before we were finished. If there were people waiting for tables I can understand the hurry but there was no queue. Overall we all had a lovely time."

"For our 1st Valentine's Day celebrated together, my lady and I decided to celebrate at the Acapello. Having never been there, it was nice to discover its location was great for parking with 2 lots within 15 steps of the door. We entered and were really impressed with the decor and theme of the place. We were quickly seated in the far right, first floor dining room. The mural really enhanced the setting as it sort of created a livelier environment. Our Matre D' was nervous, but very courteous... we could tell it was his first night. That aside, he did a great job. We had the Shrimp Arribiata and the Autmn Ravioli, both of which were divine. Amazingly, for the quality of our evening spent there, the price was certainly pocket friendly. Bravo"

"We are two couples who are "old friends" and have been doing a culinary tour of the ethnic food in NJ. This was one of the very best experiences we have had. We shared 3 appetizers and 4 entrees (Grilled fish,Scallops, Veal & Filet Mignon), all of which we loved! We brought our own wine and the wait staff provided the uncorking and glasses as needed. We were very happy with the service and responsiveness of the staff and complimented one of the owners as we were leaving"

"Food is excellent. The friends we brought from Connecticut were raving about their meal. Our waitress Nicole was outstanding. Went way above and beyond. When they couldn't locate one of our coats when we were leaving, she stopped what she was doing to help the coat check find it . Unbelievable."

"I have been at Acapello's twice, both for a 10+ dinner party. On my first occasion the service was great. It was an overall good experience. Based on our experience we decided to book a birthday party, an early 6pm dinner. Service was an absolute nightmare. It took 45 minutes to get our appetizers, two of the orders were wrong. There were also mistakes with our dinner, ask for med rare you get med well; ask for grilled shrimp, you get shrimp in a sauce. We asked for cappuccinos, they were served cold. We repeatedly asked to have our wine bottles open to no avail, my husband just went to the waiter and asked for his wine bottle opener so he can do it himself. Probably the worst service experience."
