The Front Porch, slated to open October 30 will redefine the Southern seafood restaurant. 2012 Food Network Chopped Champion Jose "Joe" Rego has developed a menu that combines traditional, straightforward seafood dishes where local seafood is the star with Portuguese-inspired dishes derived from his heritage.

"Awful--sixteen dollars for crab benedict--lots of eggs and potatos but no crab meat. Seven dollars for a flimsy garden salad and ten dollars to top it with three slices of ahi? Ten dollars for a waffle and ten dollars for a bloody mary? The renovation is beautiful and we sure are paying for it. In the real world when a diner is dissatisfied with his meal, it is either replaced in full or comped. Apparently not here. First and last visit!"

"the food was just average, perhaps they pre-cook everything for brunch because all 6 orders came out cold. Our waitress seemed to try and be helpful but did not know the difference between Champagne and a cheap pink sparking wine blend, so we had to order drinks several times."

"I loved our waiter, wish I remembered her name!! She was polite, attentative, efficient, and had a positive upbeat spirit. For our appetizer we had the delicious shrimp and crab dip. My friend ordered the low country boil but wasn't too sold on the head-on gulf shrimp so our waiter accomodated his request for the shrimp without the head on. That made his day. I've never seen him eat like that before...he devoured everything on his plate. I ordered the fresh catch snapper with shrimp and grits and coconut rice. Simply amazing. The drinks were great and the service impeccable. I will definitely be back for more."

"Great atmosphere and prompt service. Food was unique each choice offered it's own special flare. Dessert of the day was awesome. Only drawback we had was no menu items designed for kids. Will visit again to try more of the menu choices...( without the kids)."

"We did a 3 lady brunch. The outside area was quiet and very comfortable. The service was pretty good except we noticed a few tables who had been sat after us get their food before ours which had to be because the server missed her cue to fire after our app was served. I am a chef so I am quite the critic on food.Flavor wise everything was pretty decent. We had the Stuffed Fried green tomatoes(5), The gumbo(3)the flavors had not had time to mesh.Chicken and waffle(3.5) the waffle was good but the chicken lacked seasoning.Shrimp and Grits(4.5)awesome flavor but grits had big lumps."

"My favorite part of the Front Porch is the atmosphere. The outdoor seating is great. The food ranges from decent to fantastic. Anything off the raw menu is amazing, the make your own ceviche borders on life changing. The homemade pasta was good, but to be honest reminded me of hamburger helper with shrimp, and for near $30 I would expect a bit more. The fried oysters with pork belly appetizer was amazing, and another person in my party ordered off the fresh catch menu section and that was amazing, the grits were out of this world. All in all I will be back to the Front Porch, whether it be for a special"

"The FP has created a semi-casual environment with tables throughout the house; and a large "Front Porch" bar and food-service area. Food was excellent and innovative. We enjoyed the whole Red Snapper with cheese grits and broccolini. The chocolate covered cheesecak and sorbets were yummy. Service was attentive, but not superb. Reservations were a snap. Parking is easy (valet parking into a large lot on the property).
If anything, I was suprised that the inside tables were open-top; e.g. no table cloths. I would have expected a slightly more formal setting -- something up to the quality of the food. All-in-all, for a first visit on a special occasion -- just right."

"It was a fabulous meal. We went on Saturday at 12:45pm. The restaurant was moderately full. We were able to sit outside at one of their high tops, which suited our party of 6 perfectly. The servers were very attentive, and helpful with the heater, as it was a bit chilly when the sun went behind the clouds. Amazing for April in Tallahassee, but true.
Everyone's all-time favorite were the smoked gouda grits. They were divine. My crab benedict was all-right, but the potatoes added nothing to the dish. If it was put over the grits, I would have it again. As it was, I would not order it again. The shrimp & crab dip was also heavenly.
There was a bit of a strange smell on occasion, but we think it was from the newly installed pressure-treated."

"So far I've been to your resterunt twice I took my girlfriend there for valentines day, and then again just a couple of nights ago. I have to say it was one of the most pleasurable dinning experiences I've had. The food was great and the service was excellent. The hostess was very inviting and the survers were very friendly and always came by at the right time. I recommend the front porch to everyone that asks me for suggestions on where to eat in tallahassee, and I'm looking forward to my next visit."

"This was our first time at Front Porch. We were hopeful after reading some reviews. The food was very good and loved sitting out on the porch. Unfortunately, our server was not competent. He told us FOUR times he was going to bring us bread before it actually arrived. I sent my husband to the bar to retrieve my drink after waiting 10 minutes. A couple of our food selections were not available but he didn't mention it until after our order was placed. If they can get the service under control, it will be a great place. We will definitely give it another try!"

"This was the second time I have eaten at The Front Porch. Although the food was prepared well, it was over salted. Everything tasted like salt which grew in intensity as more of the meal was eaten. I had the grilled Mahi-mahi with the arugula and pistachio pesto - salty. The roasted veggies - salty. My husband had the shrimp with the homemade pasta - salty. It was such a shame especially since we were out celebrating his birthday."

"Reservation was waiting for us on arrival! Service was excellent, meal, just amazing! I cannot recommend highly enough! If you have yet to try this place, you are in for a treat. I had the special dinner, expresso martini, and enjoyed an expresso sweet that we are all still talking about. Thank you for exceeding all of our expectations! Bravo!"

"I had heard mixed reviews but had a mostly positive experience. The calamari was tasty but not all that hot when it arrived, like it was sitting waiting to be brought to us. My husband's fish special was too dry at the edges, but had good flavor. I liked my lobster cannelloni a lot. The place was busy and I saw a lot of staff rushing around conferring with each other - as if they were still learning how to work together. The decor and porch are lovely but I found the two tvs showing basketball to be unnecessary and annoying to see from my table well away from the bar. Surely anyone who just had to watch the game would have gone elsewhere? They took away from the ambiance. Still, a nice addition to town and we probably will go back."

"Food adequate, abit pricey ! Service excellent - Megan our server was outstanding being extremely helpful and very attentive. Unlike, someone from "management" visiting an adjacent table - being very boistererous and creating quite an annoyance. And the most distasteful "the valet parking". While having a pristine newly sealed and striped parking lot with very good access to the restaurant; we were confronted by a rude and discourteous valet. Then, being made to park across the street in a non-lighted parking lot and made to transverse a busy street with other patrons experiencing the same......"

"We had been here for dinner a few nights before and had an excellent experience so we had returned for brunch on Easter Sunday, I have to say that the dinner experience was the better of the two. The Brunch specials were below par after the dinner experience we had. I would still recommend this restaurant for any occation."

"The restaurant itself is very well set up, the decor is nice, the tables are spaced far enough apart for guests to have pleasant conversation without a lot of extra noise. The restaurant does a great job of maintaining a nice, rustic appearance, while also having a clean and sleek feel.
The food however, is of rather poor quality. The table behind us complained about how their food was prepared. Our crab dish was over cooked, and cold. Obviously, they had pre-cooked just about everything and let it sit. Our food came out less than 5 minutes after we ordered it. This indicates they probably have the quality of an upscale buffet and spend very little time on every individual dish."

"Start with the good: they did a great job with the remodel, keeping the basic structure of small rooms, with a very pleasant atmosphere. Our friends who arrived before us raved about the skill and friendliness of the outdoor bartender. Our server indoors, Simone, was pleasant, knowledgable and efficient. All of us (4) had seafood with pasta dishes which were adequate, nothing exceptional that I could not do better at home. The French press coffee was easily the best part of our meal. We would be willing to give this place another shot as nothing was bad, but there are many better choices in town."

"All of the fish we ordered was excellent. I can not say the same about the sides. The Portugal-style rice was overcooked and looked and felt cheap with the mix of overcooked peas and carrots thrown in. I had a side of spinach, which was really bland. The dessert (peanut butter Oreo ice cream cake) was outstanding. The service - which I had heard was awful - was actually terrific. Our waitress Devin was fantastic."

"The reviews are pretty much right on target. Overall it "fair" experience but there was nothing special.
We were seated for a good 15 minutes before somebody came to our table. Once the waiter finally arrived he was attentive and was very knowledgeable.
The food was so-so. Everything was pretty good until the main course. The grilled grouper I ordered was overcooked, dry and slightly burned. The lemon/caper sauce was too salty and dominated the flavor. My wife ordered a fish stew that was slightly better but nothing to write home about.
With a couple glasses of wine (no desert) the final bill came close to $100. If we spend that much in Tallahassee for two there should be something special about the experience. But there wasn't."
