"we had a coupon for a 4-course meal. we each had soup, shared a mushroom ceviche, then chicken breast in green sauce for me and pulled pork for my date. we shared corn cake for dessert. but every bit of food was hot. the heat overshadowed all the other flavors. and the heat just piles on, more and more. our mouth was on fire, by the end of it. we had to drink our cocktails and water a lot to cool down."

"The team at El Azteca seem to go out of their way to make sure that you're going to have a good time and enjoy the atmosphere and food, there. They take pride in their many choices of Tequila, especially. Take a taxi and enjoy a flight of three tequilas if you aren't sure which might appeal to you. I think you'd be surprised.
The Botanas (appetisers) are all really good and certainly sized to share. A favourite of mine is guacamole mamuca.
Finally - we were there on a Friday night - there is live music with a really nice lounge feel to compliment the evening. It was a lot of fun, all around.
Find them on Twitter, too at @elaztecavan or see the menus on their website at http://www.elaztecavancouver.com/menus"

"The food was fantastic, especially the guacamole and shrimp tacos, and the tequila flights were great. The restaurant was upscale Mexican and the servers were very helpful. I would definitely recommend it!"

"Nice ambiance, Good food, the service was excellent. Initially music was great, when they were playing Latin music, but, then they switched to house-music?? It is a Mexican restaurant, they need to maintain the cultural experience and keep playing Latin music all night."

"As I am a Mexican food fan, I am always looking for new and interesting places to eat. In reading some of the reviews of El Azteca, I generally like to make my own assumptions. Sadly many of the reviews were on the mark, the food is generally very good, and very well presented, but the service although is very friendly and helpful were l, the kitchen is slow. The food however is well worth the wait and the proportions are great. We were there as a group which was fine, but if you there as a couple, the wait maybe to long. The atmosphere is nice and its a quaint spot, but having TV's is the restaurant definitely takes away from the dining experience, if I wanted TV's I would go to YTB across the street."

"The food at El Azteca is amazing. We particularly liked the tacos de camarones, tacos de bistec, guacamole, and pollo en mole.... although there are many things on the meny we have not yet tried. The place is very comfortable and the first-rate staff never make you feel rushed. Also, the tequila selection is second to none in Vancouver."

"I loved everything about El Azteca; the food, service, and drinks were all fantastic! I was taken for dinner one Friday and, within 7 days, had gone two more times. The food is varied and delicious, and the drinks are wonderful. We treated ourselves to some very nice tequila and also tried some of the cocktails (the jalapeno delicia is a must for anyone going). Above all, the service was absolutely superb. The staff is very friendly and very good. I will be back soon."

"We went here for the first time last night and loved both the food and the service. Tacos were delicious, as was the mole chicken, and the staff were all incredibly friendly."

"I came here for Valentine's Day and I am taking into account that this review may not be reflective of how the restaurant is on a daily basis but this review needs to be done so the owners can hopefully improve. 7pm reservation. Restaurant had only 4 tables. Went with the set menu while boyfriend got salad and tacos. Appetizer was forgettable - chips were good but probably not made in-house. The roast pork entree came with salad but was set in a bowl so all the oil from the pork made the salad incredibly greasy and inedible. Pork itself was underseasoned and overcooked. Dessert was not great as well - custard was overcooked. Lighting above banquette seating flickered throughout our stay. Will not come back again."

"I was really looking forward to dining here. The food was awful. Only for the extensive range of tequila it helped me consume my meal. The restaurant was understaffed but the staff that were there were friendly. I will probably not dine here again. I may go for drinks."

"We had a great time out at El Azteca! Food was really spicy so we had a hard time finishing our meals but the drinks were delicious...almost dangerously delicious! Made us want to take another trip to Mexico."

"Tried this restaurant for Dine Out Vancouver. After two less-than spectacular appetizers, we were absolutely delighted and impressed by wonderful main courses and delicious desserts. Service was great: attentive but not obtrusive. We will be back... but will be asking for a recommendation on an appetizer."

"The food was good I had chicken in a mole sauce and the artichoke for an appy. The mole sauce was great but the rice and sides with it were rather bland. The artichoke was not very good, it was difficult to eat but the sauce it came with was good. The service was slow. I ordered a glass of wine with dinner but never received it. There was four of us eating together but only half of the entrees came out and we had to wait 10 minutes for the other 2 entrees to come. By the time we waited for the other plates, our meals were cold. The service started out great but after the main course it went downhill. We did receive a discount on our bill but it was still not the best experience."

"Overall,a good experience: Pros: 1)A modern venue; liked the fire strip in window & clean design of tables, room. 2) Staff were great. No rush on making our choice, answers to all questions, attentive through meal. 3)Wide variety and balance of traditional/modern/fusion dishes. Lovely spice. Yum! Cons: 1) Price point. It would have been a fantastic $28 3-course Dine Out meal; at $38 not quite there. 2) Sleek surfaces = high noise level at times. Enjoyed the 3-piece Mariachi band interval, but during it no conversation because so loud. Other diners may have had similar noise concerns - later the room's recorded salsa music seemed very loud, then turned down. Much better! 3) Some of the tables were very close together, hard to get in/out."

"This place was great! The food was authentic and the choices were great. I couldn't decide what to get. It was a bit loud, though. They had a great selection of tequila and a great drink menu. I think with a couple changes to the sides they serve they could really be a great place!"

"The food was bland and dry. We ordered the ceviche appetizer - this was made primarily with mushrooms but it was so sour, that sensation overpowered any other flavours we were supposed to notice. The tacos de chorizo was so dry - it only came with the meat. No vegetables. No salsa nor sour cream. I had to ask for sour cream - but there seemed to be miscommunication between the staff as one server said they didn't have any and another said they did. The soft taco itself was bland. The pork shank was uninspired. I don't think we'll go again. If you want good Mexican, there are many better places to go."

"Great place. Authentic Mexican Food. Great service. Went during the weekday and it was quiet which was perfect for a good catch-up with close friends. Very limited wine list - pretty much don't bother. Lime margaritas were delish though."
