Small plate Mexican dining in downtown San Jose"s historic Rose Garden.
Our dishes honor the cookery of Mexico with a focus on masa. The cuisine of Zona Rosa is Mexican but with a twist. Executive Chef, Anna Zamora Pizzo takes the components of an authentic Mexican dish and adds modern flavors and fresh seasonal ingredients. Everything is home-made and made from scratch. We hand press our tortillas using fresh, organic corn masa from La Finca.
We strive to be a farm to table kitchen and whenever possible, we use local and organic meats, poultry & produce as well as sustainable seafood sanctioned by Monterey Bay Seafood Watch.
Zona Rosa features wines, beer and coffee from local vendors including J Lohr, Barefoot Coffee, and Russian River Brewing Company.

"Reservations are highly recommended due to extremely small size of the restaurant.
Service was kind and helpful. Could've been a bit faster.
First we ordered drinks. I ordered a Horchata and my fiancé, a chelada.
Horchata was excellent, though small. The Chelada, same size, was the best I've had. Beats puerto azul any day.
Tortilla chips with guacamole topped with pistachio and crispy bacon. To me, unusual but very interesting.
Ricotta empanadas were good, the sauce was the best. Crab and shrimp ceviche was our favorite.
Braised pork tacos were moist and flavorful. Portions are small, but do pack a lot of bold flavor.
Horchata ice cream with squash fritters, must try.

"Food was not hot when it arrived. I ordered what I knew would be a smaller meal but the portion seemed inconsistent with the price. This is not your mom and pop taqueria; it's intended to be more upscale. We sat outside because of the great weather but the din of the auto traffic made conversation almost impossible. The waitperson assigned was excellent: friendly, helpful and really knew the menu. The other two were brusque and indifferent."

"Tiny place with big, bold flavor. Definitely need reservations for this restaurant. Only 6 tables inside and about the same on patio. Great, friendly service. Food was amazing. Highly recommend the fish tacos, carnitas, and don't forget empanadas! Beans tasted like someone's grandma made them from scratch! A little on the pricey side but worth the "farm to table" quality."

"I have been to Zona Rosa 5 times now and it is currently my favorite place to go. The food, service, and ambiance are by far superior to most restaurants, this place is definitely a neighborhood gem! So happy happy they are expanding, current place is very charming but a bit cozy. The Blue Corn Masa Crepes are a must have, I love the twist they do on guacamole - they add pistachios and bacon. Yum!"

"A tiny, tiny place, so if you want a seat inside, make a reservation. We had to wait about 20 minutes with a reservation. However, the food was well worth the wait. Absolutely delicious Mexican food and not the usual "combo with rice and beans" stuff. Also very interesting was the red sangria, flavored with fruit, and clove and cinnamon. It is better without ice than with. Definitely will come back and wish them luck on their expansion plans."

"A change of pace from the typical two-items-with-rice-and-refried-beans kind of place. A more upscale treatment of traditional Mexican favorites, with somewhat higher prices to match. Service was attentive, although we got a somewhat brusque greeting from the hostess, who was rather insistent about Saturday patrons having reservations (which we had, thanks to Open Table). We started with the queso fundido, which did not overly impress. We followed with two different enchilada dishes with mole sauce that were both delicious. The pumpkin fritters with homemade ice cream for dessert were also very good. I would rate this place somewhat of a mixed bag, due to a short menu, high-ish prices, and noise factor, offset by some good dishes."

"Not the kind of Mexican food you find in most Mexican restaurants which is a good thing. Small plates with fresh ingredients and really good flavors and sauces. Try the chips and salsas, amazing flavors.
No real wine selection and no margaritas but the Sangria is good.
Wear some warm clothes since when that door opens all the cold air comes in and it's chilly in there."

"Food is amazing here! The owners of this place obviously take pride in their restaurant and it shows... The atmosphere is lovely, cozy, clean and service is beyond excellent!! I'll go back again and again and again! I do however recommend making reservations to ensure timely seating."
