"I've been a fan of Matchbox since they opened their first restaurant in Washington, DC on H Street. Their pizza selection is vast - the dough just right and chewy - and the combination challenges your idea of Pizza, I highly recommend the fig with prosciutto. In addition, their salad is always tops. Lastly - the service is always pleasant.
Specific to the U Street location - the interior is well done. We were seated in a booth surrounded with a rich thick wood frame - you almost feel like you are floating and in your own little private alcove. GREAT space."

"Great setup and architecture with great seating in every room (and many of them). The service was superb (TAYLOR) and it was obvious someone has been training the staff and performing quality control checks. To make it even better our table had 8 guys which are very picky eaters. Everything came out on time and perfect. No leftovers from anybody. Thanks for a very nice brunch!

"The food was delicious; however, the best part of my visit was the waitress named Taylor Williams. She was professional, friendly and very attentive. This is the first time in my life that I had such excellent service, she was amazing and because of her, I will be back to the 14th Street location. "I was not disappointed in this gem. Located in an artsy part of Washington DC, this beautifully designed place had high ceilings, contemporary furnishings and a kitchen visible from the dining floor. I had the Porterhouse with the Giant Asparagus (which were humongous) and both were grilled to perfection. Others in my group were equally satisfied with their various dishes including the BBQ ribs and Chicken Sandwich. There are many signature drinks and microbrew beers available but the only complaint that my party had was the slow bar service. The meals were favorably priced and the atmosphere was great. Everyone in my group stated that this was a great find and we would all come back. Our group of 10 was accommodated without any problem."

"I've been to Matchbox twice with my husband. First time sat in front of the wood-burning fireplace and watched them make pizzas. We ordered a sesame-crusted tuna salad and a calamari salad. Both were incredibly tasty and flavorful without hot spices. Next time we split a prosciutto and a black fig pizza and, again, the tuna salad. The pizza combination was intriguing and great! And the tuna salad was as good as remembered. Plus, the prices are reasonable. Can't wait to go back!!!"

"Food was good but service was not. The restauarnt was not packed and there were several empty tables so I'm not sure why the service was so slow. Wait staff was friendly but inattentive until the check came. We were seated for fifteen minutes before anyone even came to the table to ask if we wanted drinks. This was after several wait staff walked by the table and smiled but kept walking. Service was slow throughout dinner and un attentive. After the check was dropped off the waiter checked back almost every minute to see if we had paid yet. I will probably come back but I hope the service improves."

"My friend and I first visited Matchbox a little over a month ago. I had passed it repeatedly and it looked interesting, so we decided to give it a try. We were glad we did! We tried to visit again two weeks ago, but without a reservation, the wait was ridiculous. My friend and I took that as a good sign. I made reservations this time. The food was excellent, the service superb, and we both enjoyed the ambience. I’d recommend Matchbox to anyone."

"We were excited to see what everyone was raving about. But the hostess forgot about us- we waited an hour when we were told 15-20 minutes. At least 3 groups came in and were seated immediately in front of us. We finally went up to the desk to inquire, and she just says "Oops." No apology. When we were taken upstairs to our table, there were open tables everywhere. And we wasted an hour of our Sunday...Then, our server forgot us too. She seemed irritated when, after waiting for an hour, we wanted to order immediately and didn't wait to hear the specials. She pretty much ignored us for the rest of our stay. We are so disappointed in the addition to the neighborhood. We'll just go to to Pete's from now on."

"We were in the mood for some pizza Tuesday night, and headed to our closest purveyor of quality pies -- Matchbox. The pizza is not the best in town, nor is it an approximation of what one would get in Naples or New York. Still, the thin, crisp crust and the tangy toppings were quite satisfying. And, yet again, I felt compelled to order a dessert -- the brownie sundae. This is always both very well prepared and extremely caloric. I have yet to have a meal at Matchbox that was not both enjoyable and worthy of reprimand from my cardiologist."

"If asked to list the top restaurants within a 10-minute walk from my house, I doubt I would mention Matchbox prominently. Yet I now have had three meals there in three months and enjoyed every one of them. The food I had was not ambitious -- I again ordered the sliders, and then shared a pizza and an apple crisp dessert with my spouse. Nevertheless, each of the dishes was very well prepared, and the pizza in particular featured an otimally crisp crust and a nice tangy topping. Servers were again well-trained and helpful. This was our first visit to this Matchbox during a peak dining period. The noise level was more than moderate, but not uncomfortable; conversation was not difficult."

"I was coming from a race and meeting a large group of friends for brunch to celebrate. Due to poor race logistics, it took me over an hour to get to the restuarant and was very late for the reservation. Matchbox allowed my friends to hold the table and then provided excellent service. "I overall had a good experience. There were two waiters who seemed to be passive aggressively fighting over our table and it wasn't clear to us who was actually our server. We were uncomfortable about asking. Also - the waiter took our check before we could explain how we wanted to split it which made figuring out change at the end difficult.
But the food was good and it was gorgeous outside. The outside eating area was very nice."
