"We were supposed to be meet another couple for dinner here and they didn't make it. We had a blast: the food and drinks were creative and delicious, while still feeling very authentic. The service was knowledgeable and very attentive. My only concerns were that it was possibly the loudest restaurant I've ever been in. I'm generally not sensitive to noise, but my wife and I spent most of the evening taking turns yelling, reading lips, and trying to communicate with our eyes. Not sure they can do much here, but it would have been hard to have another couple there. I'm sure the patio would have been much better for this.
All in - a great place and worth trying; but, not for a quiet, romantic evening."

"This strip of Rose Ave continues to come to life. Hostaria is a great find for a casual night at a neighborhood place. The grilled octopus and the lightly breaded calamari appetizers were great. The pizza was very good (we had speck, truffle). The pasta was spot on. I also really liked the tiraminsane (tiramisu). Our service couldn't have been better. Be ready for the noise level. Industrial decor, loud music and the diners make this place deafeningly loud and tough of converse without snuggling close! I'll go back."

"We have never been to the Venice Hostaria before, have enjoyed the Santa Monica place a few times. The Venice restaurant is definitely noisier and harder to have a conversation than the Santa Monica place. Even the server had to lean in to hear what we wanted to order. He did a good job with us. Wish they would have sat us a little further away from the crowd at the communal table since the place was empty inside except by the bar. Food was still good here just like at Santa Monica. We did overall have a very nice dinner but the noise factor was a little bothersome but not to the point we would not go again. We now know to ask for a table away from the bar area, hopefully easier on the ears and vocal cords."

"Hosteria Piccolo is a good addition to the Rose Ave restaurant scene.
I personally prefer the menu at the other Piccolo on Dudley, but this one is more casual.
The fish of the day I had was a bit on the salty side, but my dinner companions seem to enjoy the pizza and the pasta.
The ambiance is VERY loud, not so good for conversation- but I suppose that's the intention of the restaurant.
The seating is also a bit hard, (not too comfortable).
I would not recommend this restaurant for a date or a romantic outing.
But is a good intro to the Venice-(Rose Ave) lifestyle for out-of-town guests."

"I chose this restuarnat based on my experience at the sister location in santa monica. i was so disappointed. It doesn't have any where near the same ambience, the noise level was out of control and the food didnt taste anywhere as good. I may have enjoyed it more had I not had the Santa Monica location to compare it to."

"We had a great dinner there last week. The food was very good (though be careful, the dishes can be on the heavy side). The gnocchi were the best I ever had. Service was friendly (no too-cool-to-be-friendly like in other places) but a bit spotty. We had a switch of waiter and the new waiter seemed to have forgotten or not known about us at first but once that was discovered was as efficient and friendly as our first one.
Fantastic selection of amaros.
The only drawback is the noise - it was so loud we almost had to yell at each other to talk, even on the (quieter) patio."

"The food and menu selections are excellent but unless you can get a table in the outside patio, the restaurant is TOO, TOO LOUD. The acoustics just bounce right off all the glass and you really have to yell to be heard. I would only go here again if I was guaranteed a table in the patio."

"Hostaria is one of the loudest reaturants I have ever been in. That said, the food is great and the service is quite good as well. I was however VERY disappointed when we asked to take a portion of our food home and as it was brought to the table it was spilled by the busboy. He apologized and disappeared. No one said a word nor did we get our leftovers. Pretty cheesy if you ask me."

"Food was mediocre and overpriced doe the portion size. The most astonishing part is that they charge $4 for bread and all you get is 4 small slices of ciabatta bread... I found that ridiculous! I have never been to a restaurant where they charge for bread when yo order a salad and an entree per person.

"The food was okay, but I don't need to go back. My guest ordered a drink before I got there and it took about 20 minutes to get the drink. We were informed that they didn't have a bartender on Saturday afternoon. I ordered a bellini and the peach puree tasted like it was bottled. I ordered the Romanesco pizza and I never thought I'd say this, but there was too much cheese on the pizza. My guest ordered the smoked salmon eggs benedict and liked it a lot. We also split an order of gnocchi to start and it was pretty good."

"Sitting outside on a lovely evening is great. The noise level is so much quieter than inside. Our meal was lovely. We shared Fried Calamari and then their wonderful moist and ender stuffed chicken with a side of delectable beans. Can't remember the desert but it was delicious!!"

"We had an incredible meal here and will be frequenting this place. The wild boar sausage appetizer was one of the tastier things I've ever eaten. Truly delicious. The service was top notch. Our waitress was very attentive, friendly and was happy to chat and give her feedback to us. We were dining with a couple regulars, so the owner visited our table a couple times to make sure we were fully satisfied. Just amazing food, ambiance and service. Highly recommend!"

"I took a date here who is a local. We had a nice time because it was intimate yet very lively, and nice but casual, which is a rare find. This is a nice first stop on a date for locals or those visiting the area.
The food was not that great, (not bad but not memorable). Though I am honestly a bit biased because I am not a fan of Italian food . We each had a smaller pizza, which are perfect sizes and light. They had a great selection of wine and beer. Not a huge list but enough of the good stuff.
The service was excellent and the staff super helpful. I would come here again if I was in the area."

"My husband and I went to this spot with our 2 1/2 year old. He loved the bench style seats but if it was a crowded day, I'd hate to be sitting on one of those shared benches. The service was good but all the waiters seemed distracted by a semi-final NBA game on the t.v. The food was wonderful. I ordered the gnocci with tomato sauce and my husband had a white four cheese pizza. The wine was good but was served too cold. Our son ate off our plates. When the waiter came to our table our son asked him for toast. The waiter was suprised and had no idea how to respond... we got some bread with olive oil which was perfectly fine for our son."

"Enjoyed a really fun night at Hosteria. Service was excellent. Food was mostly very good, though a few dishes a bit salty. Restaurant layout open and friendly, though noise level was loud. That isn't a deterrant for me, but it is for people I know. I'm happy to have it in my walking distance from home. I will definately be back."

"I think Piccolo is one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles, and the Hostaria is such a great idea. Some of the same delicious food at a much more reasonable price. I plan on coming back many times. But one of the best things about Piccolo is its quiet but relaxed elegance. The Hostaria is anything but, thanks to the loud music they play. And I wouldn't mind loud music if it were current and thoughtfully curated, but they play classic rock, which is entirely unsuited to the room or the food.
My only other criticism is aimed not just at Hostaria Piccolo but a lot of new places that are replacing chairs with benches. The custom side tables here are beautiful, but no more comfortable than a picnic table."

"I am torn about this place. The food is excellent, however the noise level is OUT OF CONTROL.
They are well aware of the lack of acoustic design and how loud it gets.
When I approached the hostess and express my concern, she dismissed me very politely by saying: "Well, this is the way the owners want it as it is part of the scene".
We will likely come back at 'odd' hours to enjoy the food, but certainly not to be part of the 'scene' with this chick."

"This was my second time in as many weeks dining here. First time we sat at the bar, which was great. This time we were four people and although the food was fabulous, the owner/manager and all waitstaff attentive and friendly, it was hard to converse due to the noise. Great vibe, but noise level prevented any real conversation over dinner….perhaps they can put some carpet or something on the wall to absorb the noise. I will still go back, though, if just the two of us!"

"I won't whine. I was warned. The Times' review said loud. It was. Rock concert loud. But at a concert you go to hear the band, not carry on a conversation with your partner. Restaurant style has become uber minimalist to the point that concrete floors and plastic chairs remind one of the food courts in malls. This heightens the decible count to the point that trying to converse becomes a mouth-to-cupped-ear-neck veins-bulging workout. Why must the eatery buzz be at sawmill levels? So that they can turn tables faster? Help you ignore the poorly washed salad, the overly hovering staff, or the wallet puckering price of the non-DOC vino abate? The food is fine and creative but lost in the rest of the dining experience. Avoid."

"I was there last Thursday as a party of six and then again Saturday night as a party of six. Highlights from Thurs were the wine selection, friendly staff and some good choices: farro salad, grilled calamari. The pizza, pasta and pork belly was unimpressive but we let someone else order for everyone family style so we decided to go again on Saturday. We ordered the grillled calamari, squid, farro salad - all excellent. We ordered pizzas (quattro for and prosciutto), tagliatelle bolognese, NY steak and fish. The pizzas were okay, but nothing compared to some other thin crispy pizzas. Bolognese- ok, NY steak excellent. Worst part was they brought everything together, which ruined the meal. It became heavy & overwhelming Timing matters!"

"When I walked in....I could not get tables...as I requested on line through " Open Table".
They insisted online reservations they cannot book tables...
So my client from Japan had to sit at the counter...it was a rainy night, I did not feel like driving around for other options....and we WERE hungry.
The counter was ok....but very disappointed the way they explained keep pointing out that I made a reservation online!! Anything wrong with this???
And the server/ bus person wears the same thing...do not know who to as what...they do have a tendency to get together and talk a lot. I had to wave to them soooo many occasions.

"Our first dining experience here and it was simply DIVINE! Everything our charming and knowledgeable server, Kevin recommended was spot on. From interesting specialty cocktails to an organic farro, heirloom, arugula salad dressed perfectly to my YUMMY porcini mushroom truffle oil pasta (who knew gluten-free could taste so good?)were absolutely delicious.
