Casually elegant, Pastina is home to some of the best Italian cooking in town inspired by the freshest ingredients, cooked simply and prepared beautifully with excellent service and a warm comfortable atmosphere. Many of the clientele are on the first name basis with host Franco Catullo who supplies ample amount of Italian charm to go along with delicate antipasti, splendid pastas, fresh fish, hefty veal chops and fabulous desserts flown in from Italy. Pastina strikes a perfect balance between favorite dishes of the moment and trusty standbys with waiters that have the Italian enthusiasm for seeing diners happy.
"Wonderful traditional Italian food, at fair prices. Good size portions too. Terrific and friendly service and support staff. One of the most underrated high quality Italian restaurants one will find in LA."

"We've been visiting Pastina for many years. We keep coming back because of the good service, quiet interior, good food, and reasonable prices (for the Westside)."

"Contrary to some reviews we found service to be fine. This was our first visit and we will return. Went on Monday eve at 6. By time we left it had gotten busy. We both had the special menu for $26 which is a good value. My husband had the lamb chops - very good and I had the scampi. Sauce for the shrimp was wonderful and I used the good bread to sop up all that mushroom sauce. The one thing mentioned by other reviewers we did find true. Frank, the owner, only seemed to greet people he obviously knew. He should learn to work all the tables. All it takes is asking how they are enjoying their meal, etc. It will add to the ambiance of the restaurant and make all patrons feel appreciated."

"Pastina was as good as always. They have instituted a pris fixe menu of 4 courses for the very moderate price of $25--the equivalent of a main course plus an appetizer. According to our waiter, this has filled the restaurant nightly. And I do mean filled. We were not rushed to turn over the table, and the service was good (amazingly, considering the crowd), but the noise level was extremely high. We were there with several soft-spoken people as well as the loud-voiced among us. It was impossible to hear anyone but those sitting directly next to one. The soft-spoken truly had to speak directly into one's ear. Obviously, this was quite frustrating. I'd recommend it for the food, the ambiance but caution you about the noise."

"Actually quite disappointing! Wouldn't substitute for whole wheat pasta without my speaking with the manager! Waiter was not nice. We wanted to take our desserts home and only 1 was in the container when we got home! Too many other fine Italian restaurants around - wouldn't go back."

"We arrived at 6:30 and were pleased by the fact that the restaurant was not full. By 7 pm however, everything filled up and by 7:30 the noise was deafening! You wouldn't think that could be true because there is carpeting and table cloths; however, we were a party of 4 and could NOT even talk amongst ourselves. Maybe there are just too many tables too close together...but it was a very unpleasant meal because of that. Food is good, however."

"Food was mediocre, not even good. Service was minimal. We heard the daily specials read to the table next to us but our waiter never mentioned anything about the specials to us. Front of house staff was unorganized. Disappointing."

"This was our 3rd time and despite it being a very busy Saturday night they didn't miss a beat, and we didn't miss a bite. Incredibly good on all levels. This is the neighborhood Italian restaurant we always hoped for."

"the best pasta in town at moderate prices. Great white bean soup. The Caesar salad was boring, but that was the only dish not outstanding. I had the Prix Fixe menue for $25 which included soup or salad, pasta carbonara, eggplant parmigiana (very good sweet eggplant with light breading on the back only and plentiful mozzarella on top with a marinara sauce, and fantastic tiramisu (my wife had the chocolate cake which was just as good). My father had the misto mare (mixed seafood with linguini) which totally rocked."

"We just moved here from New York. Pastina would do very well in NYC, but we're thrilled it's in our new neighborhood in Westwood. We had a fantastic meal, and our waiter, John, was a joy; warm, professional and most helpful. We'll be back many times."

"The three-course prix fixe dinner is a real value. A delicious caesar salad, rack of lamb and tira misu for $26. A friendly staff and attentive service completed a happy evening"
