"My first reaction - unexpectedly good. The decor is both exciting and calming... not boring. It just seems "special". The menu is varied and imaginative, not always a good thing if you are slow on experimenting. Their nomenclature and classifications take some explaining - which the staff is ready to provide. In fact the individualized reviews describing the content and preparation of each dish helps to answer the inevitable question "What IS this? Is it what I ordered?". That said, everything is delicious. Portions are modest, and a bit pricy. But no grudges because the flavors excel."

"while the service was great after the food service started, it took over an hour to even get the bread basket. this was in a restaurant only 30% occupied (Monday evening). overall, the excellent food made up for the wait."

"This place is excellent. What a find for a west coaster. Exceptional cuisine - amazing octopus dish for starters! A rare find among too much steak and potatoes in the surrounding blocks. This place is really good. Great service. cool space. Definitely go!"

"We tried to order an appetizer but we were told "the chefs require you to order explore and summit at the same time." WHAT? The food here is horrible, and no one commented on the dry, overlooked lamb chop that I did not touch on my plate. It's a kind of worse exerience being served terrible food and having no one notice. Don't eat here."

"Baume & Brixe is perfect for both foodies and those people that just want a good meal. The restaurant is tucked away in a new location near the East Bank Club. It is a perfect location to eat prior to a show. Baume & Brixe is prime location to celebrate. My husband and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary there and we noticed a large group of females celebrating for a bachelorette party. The cocktails, entrees, and desserts are delicious! The restaurant staff paid attention to detail and was attentive and provided exceptional recommendations. The meal even started with a glass of champagne!"

"Our experience was wonderful. The food was really good-highlights included the octopus, the brined pork chop, and that darn bread! Amazing. Booth seating was perfect for our family-three college aged. Our server, Rafael was excellent. Great music track. Only regret-should have called ahead to reserve the chef table. Thanks!"

"The portions are very little, especially the carpaccio. And it's overpriced : I paid $150 for 2 with only appetizers, main course, 1 glass of wine, no dessert, no coffee !! Maybe that's why it was very quiet when I was there."

"This highly rated restaurant offers tasty food... accompanied by a side dish of cold service. We received a warm welcome by hostess and bar staff.... but the female server for our table seemed less than eager to deal with us. It was as though we so lacked in hip and cool she simply couldn't be bothered. She was altogether dismissive and although we found the food very good, we left without even considering dessert or coffee. We thought coffee at a Starbucks might afford a friendlier atmosphere. I will likely not be returning."

"The whole dinner was truly amazing. From beginning to the end. Service was not quite up to snuff though. Dirty dishes on the table for too long, left by service staff that visited the table between courses. Obviously an 'it's not my job' attitude. Gorgeous modern restaurant. The food was stellar, clean, fresh and full of flavor."

"Food was pretty good but the service a bit spotty. They dont have Kettle One or Blu cheese olives which was what my date wanted. So after being denied, they took about 20 min to make the drinks which were then "comped". They also brought out a wrong appetizer but it was also comped. The Burratta was phenominal and the Octopus was also pretty good. The entrees were were it was at! I had the Red Curry Short Rib which had awesome flavor and a good bite to it(spicy). Date had the Butterfish, which she enjoyed. Would go back."

"The menu is small but impressive and while we all ordered something different (including several different starters) they were all very good. The drinks are also impressive. I will say that while some places are a little too noisy, this one was actually quite quiet. I would come here again but try it closer to the weekend so it isn't quite as much like a library."

"I had a great experience and will definitely go back. Everything from the food to the service and atmosphere was perfect. We tried the grilled Octopus, Burrata and Red Curry Short Rib and was loved them all. I also found the portion sizes to be appropriate for the price. Our server was very helpful in guiding us on the menu and cocktail list too, the Kimura was very refreshing. I can't wait to go back and try the Butterfish and Gnocchi."

"This restaurant has been open for about five months and operates up there with the best. The space is cool, the servers well trained, and the food imaginative and delicious.
The wine list is pretty good but on the pricey side as is the food but it is well worth it."

"This restaurant is okay but not great............a strange and odd menu with very small portions for the money.........I had blackened Cod but it was about 3 X 2" piece of fish for $28........a real ripoff with no other side dishes. This is an electic kind of place that the younger crowd likes with lots of noise and off beat choices......way over rated I think. My colleagues liked their pork chop and duck leg though. Wine terribly expensive even for Chicago. I asked the wine steward for something cheaper, and my goodness, he found a great bottle of Cab for me for $40..........nothing on regular wine list was there for under $50......sad really. Our waitress was not very friendly nor responsive, but the guys who brought food were good.quite"

"Thomas's menu did not disappoint. Everything we got was delicious, and we tried a lot off the menu. The blackened cod was melt in your mouth amazing, as was the pork chop. The servers were knowledgeable regarding all the menu items, and we were taken care of throughout the night. B&B is a must try for foodies in Chicago."

"The food was very good, we were a little early for our reservation and even though there were tables available they had us wait until our reservation time. Then they seated us in the lounge area and not the actual restaurant , our service was very good but our server new more than our waitress did about the food. Not sure I'm running back"

"We were a group of four. To my surprise, one of our friends seemed to have a tough time with the menu. Everything seemed too complicated for her. She tried to order just a Greek salad, which was one of many ingredients in a particular dish, but the waiter explained that that couldn't be done. There was NO flexibility. We kept making proposals, which kept being rejected by the kitchen. Nothing came back in the way of suggestions from them. Finally, in desperation as the three of us were eating our entrees, I successfully begged the waiter to bring a green salad. At that point our friend declined it. The food is wonderful there, but they need to realise that for reasons of health,or whatever sometimes their patrons will need flexibility."

"We started with the buratta salad which was amazing. It was a great mix of salty, sweet and peppery. I had the duck leg which was cooked perfectly and was paired with strawberry and goat cheese grits and pickled salad which added a sweet and tangy aspect to the plate so that it rounded out the plate very well. The potato chip gnocchi was incredible as well. We were well taken care of but not overly doted upon which was wonderful! A great dining experience overall!"

"This was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I've had in the past several months. The "Dealer's Choice" cocktail was excellently crafted especially by the mixologist to suit my tastes - a wonderful option for those looking for unique cocktailing experiences. Our server (Dustin) was extrememly knowledgable and detailed in his descriptions of the chef's offerings. You'll end up wanting to try everything! The icing on the cake was the dessert. My friends and I ordered the Milk and Cookies which consisted of freshly baked cookies and delicious vanilla-infused milk. The presentations were amazing, the food was exceptional and the service was lightning-fast! Highly recommend!!!"

"Have the octopus, and the fois gras and the carpaccio and the cod.... You get the idea, fabulous food. If you are a slow eater (we like to savour our food) you need to tell them as our fois gras came out 2 minutes after the octopus- both are warm dishes. We sent it back and got another one 20 mins later so no complaints there. We will be back for sure- thoroughly enjoyable- and I really want to book the chefs table for 6!"

"Interesting menu. Lots of fish options. My thoughts was it was a bit too foodie. Nothing on it made me want to come back right away and try something else. I'm sure everything tasted great -- my appetizer and black cod was delicious -- but the portion sizes are super small, especially compared to the price (I definitely left still with an appetite). Presentation reminded me of fancy 80s food. The mark-up for a bottle of wine was also pretty high. Overall: great tasting food, excellent service, but high prices for portion size and drinks and menu didn't have those items I felt the need to return right away to try."

"Everything was great the food was delicious, the restaurant was pleasant and the chairs were comfortable. Loved the drink menu!! The only thing that could use improvement is when the servers deliver the food to the table they should look people in the eyes as they explain the dishes, speak in a audible voice without mumbling."

"I was VERY please with our visit.... There were four of us, so the waiter suggested appetizers to share and one entree each - We went with the Octopus, the Naked Lobster and the Carpaccio All of them were very good - the Naked Lobster was very fresh, but I didn't LOVE it, so if I went back and reordered 3 appetizers, I would get the Carpaccio, Octopus and then try something different! For the entrees, the porkchop was our declared "winner" because it was a large enough portion to be filling and it tasted FANTASTIC! The cod was delicious, but the serving was pretty small and my husband was definitely still hungry... Gnocchi, very tasty, again, entree size kinda small. Skip the grilled cheese and get the Frosty & Fries and the panacotta"

"Food was great, the cod dish was amazing. Service friendly but not so great. Wine was a different year to what was listed, second bottle of wine poured into glasses still containing wine from the first bottle, schoolboy errors. When everyones dish came out they were put in front of the wrong person, then the bill was also stuffed up. But the place is great and so is the food, so i would give it another go."
