"The food was very good, as was the service. The only negative was that we had reviewed the menu on the internet and selected what we intended to order. Unfortunately, the menu at the restaurant was quite different. We were disappointed because we had looked forward to the shrimp and scallop item and there was nothing close to that available. Nevertheless, the experience was enjoyable. It demonstrates, however, how important it is to keep web sites current.
The restaurant is very convenient for Ford Theatre patrons, both before and after performances. The prices are quite reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food. We have eaten there several times and food and service has been consistently good."

"This was my second visit. My first was a couple of years ago when I sat at the bar and had escargots and cheese/bread, which was wonderful. This time I was looking forward to trying an entree. I recently visited the South of France so I started out with a nice glass of Rose. Next was the house salad which consisted of nothing more than a plate of micro greens and sliced mushrooms - certainly not worth the price although the dressing was good. For my entree, I ordered Rockfish. It was cooked perfectly, unfortunately the sauce and spinach was WAY over salted to the point where it was uneatable. Bread was very good and so was the service."

"I live about 2 blocks from Bistro d'Oc in one of the liveliest neighborhoods in DC - Penn Quarter. I am surrounded by fabulous trendy restaurants which I often enjoy. Bistro d'Oc is my neighborhood standby. I have NEVER not been able to get a table here even on a weekend night and with little notice. I probably should not be telling other Open Table members about this hidden gem since all of a sudden it will become enormously popular and I will not longer be able to get a table wheneven I need one in a pinch. I love French food and the menu is very nice and varied. My salad with blood pudding was excellent and the lamb with flageolets delicious."

"Runner" actually loudly running food from kit hen to table... Distracting and eventually annoying.

"We had a great time. Our waitress was very friendly and wanted us to have a good time. The portions are more than reasonable. They certainly had a nice range of different dishes as well as the evening specials. The food is very good and fresh. The Duck Confit was very good, a bit salty not enough to create a real problem though. Their Paté is amazing, and their French bread is to die for. Our experience with their mixed drinks was not so good. We went back a second time after celebrating my birthday there a few weeks ago. We will return."

"The food here is terrific. And the daily selections are creative and sound good. We had an early dinner so arrived with plenty of time to get to Ford's Theatre across the street. The service did become a bit hurried. And the noise level rose considerably from our arrival time to when we left. So, a downside for any conversation."

"Always surprising how few tourists are in here. Good place to go before theater or event at Verizon Center - excellent pre-theatre dinner for $25, including wine. Service is fast so don't worry about missing curtain."

"The restaurant was recommended to us by a local friend and we were not disappointed. Although our table was not ready at 1PM per our lunch reservation, we opted to eat at the bar and were quite happy with the service and food selections. The food and drink prices are fair and good value for the theater's location next to Ford's Theater.
Our bartender/waiter made excellent lunch and wine recommendations, the pace of service was just right and the after-lunch coffee delicious. The fact that the restaurant is next to a major history buff/tourist attraction makes it ideal for visitors to DC and local theater patrons alike."

"we usually hit the bar before a movie at E Street and then get dinner here afterwards. the bar staff is super friendly, and the owner/ manager is as well. it feels like a local place, but we live in silver spring! i enjoy the French inspired food -- even though the ingredients may not be local or super fresh. it 's good French country fare and a pleasant place to eat and drink!"

"Good food and service. Only one complaint, the pre-theatre menu for $25 is a great deal with a complimentary glass of wine. However, we were not informed until we ordered a second glass that the wine that went with the dinner was not the selection we were drinking. So, we did not get a complimentary wine but paid around $9.00 per glass. Would have made different choices and perhaps had a more reasonable check."

"The haricots vert salad was delicious and practically a meal in itself. The pork tourenados was not. The pork was a big hunk of tough, bland meat. Even the cream mushroom sauce on top was tasteless. What was supposed to be ladyfingers in the dessert, were sticks of some kind of hard crunchy cookie.
The waitress couldn't even understand the English pronunciation of our order. All items had to be pointed at on the menu.
That dining experience will be the only one we ever have there."

"This restaurant is an "old world" favorite, not hip and sleek but rather something like one would find in Paris. I love their pates and have always enjoyed this perennial favorite of mine in downtown DC. We had the pre-theatre menu before going to Ford's Theater."

"I've eaten there twice for lunch and it was great. This is a French bistro, but one with southwestern French flavor not Paris--i.e., the area called Languedoc or the department of Aude, close to the Pyrenees. I particularly like the appetizer of lamb brains in garlic and butter--where else in DC can you get that--which appears to stay on the menu? Even the squeamish will enjoy this great flavor. The butternut squash soup with sour cream is another wonderful appetizer. The basic entree menu doesn't change much and is pretty standard, but they bring a big board with the day's specialties that tend to be different--e.g., a mixture of sausages with a sauerkraut that is not strong on the vinegar as you would find in Germanic countries."

"Onion soup was fantastic; short ribs braised in red wine sauce and a chicken dish were good but pork tournedos were so tough could hardly cut them much less chew them. Sent back and all they did was reheat it which made it tougher. Finally just had them take away the pork and ate the veggies and delicious cream sauce."

"Bistro D'oc is a classic French bistro owned and operated by a French family. This is an excellent place to experience a real Bistro, a name much overused in the American dining scene. The food is excellently prepared, classic Bistro food. The wine list is dominantly Languedoc (Rhone like) and very reasonably priced. Ask one of the brothers to help you select a wine according to your tastes as these wines are little know in the US not easy to find in your local wine shop."

"We went to the Bistrot d'Oc with my colleagues to celebrate our work. In the group, I'm French and it's not easy to find nice and authentic French cuisine in USA but this restaurant was really good. The food was authentic, and luckily it was mostly dishes from the South (my region). The waiter (an american) spoke really well French, it was a really bonus.

"We discoverd Bistro d'Oc several years ago. It is a gem. We usually order one entree from their regular menu and another from their daily specials. We have never had a less than woneredul experience in any of our visits. The only diappointment is that we were able to enjoy their dessert "cigars" on our very first visit. We'd like to see the "cigars" offered once again."

"The duck pâté was truly incredible. Fantastic tasting and more than adequate portion. We also ordered the mixed cheese plate. Good selection; I'm not a fan of Brie but really enjoyed theirs. Wasn't really meant to be combined, but having the goat cheese with the pâté really made the pepper shine. We shared the butterfly hangar steak...yum!! Perfectly seasoned and the Roquefort sauce was a delicious addition."

"If one can score a table at the front of the restaurant, the ambience is excellent. For lunch we were seated in the gloomy back room where no outside light could penetrate, which was quite unpleasant. The food was excellent and I recommend it, but I would not return unless I could reserve a table near the front window. That would not be an issue after dark."

"As a party of ten we were thrilled to be able to eat and get to Ford's Theater in time for the show. The service was outstanding. Our only comment would be the pork was a little too tough to enjoy. The rest of food was very good. Loved the butternut squash soup and the desserts were wonderful. Would definitely go again. Once again, the service and making the reservations were fantastic.
We would highly recommend the Bistro, especially in a very touristy part of town."

"My wife and I make a point of dining at Bistro D'Oc every time we visit Washington, but in recent years it has been for mid-week lunches, which are always impressive This visit was for dinner, and we were even more impressed. The escargots were marvelous. The Caesar salad was delightfully rich, and the hangar steak was excellent. It is the consistency of the cuisine and the friendly service that most impresses us: No matter what time of year or time of day we visit, Bistro D'Oc is always excellent."

"The food was excellent and faithful to Languedoc, and the ambience pleasant. That said, Bistro d'Oc - across the street from Fords Theater - did not deliver the final (third, dessert) course of the Theater Menu in time to get to the Theater. With the curtain going up in minutes, we had to pay (including desserts) and hastily leave. Even though Bistro d'Oc offers a Pris Fixe Theatre Menu, regretfully we cannot recommend this restaurant as a place to dine before a theater performance."

"I had asked for seating on the first floor as my friend has a physical disability. We were seated near the kitchen and could barely talk due to the shouting and the clanging of the pots and pans. I understand that a kitchen is noisy but, with diners nearby, I would think that the staff would try to decrease the noise -- not increase it. On top of that, the servers RUN and each time their feet pounded the floor behind me, I felt the movement. I could not wait to leave. The good food became very secondary to this experience."

"We were very rushed. We had theater tickets across the street for 7:30 and were done by 6:20! There was no Chardonnay which seems incredible. The food was mediocre. Glasses were removed from the table before we even finished them- this would never happen in Paris!"

"We were late coming into Washington and were afraid that we would have to miss dinner in order to see the performance at Ford's Theater (right across the street). The wait staff at Bistro d'OC made sure that we enjoyed a thoroughly delicious prix-fixe with minutes to spare! Great food, and great service!"

"Very good French bistro menu, very tasty though my pork was ever so slightly overdone, making it a little tough, the sauce however was a perfect mushroom cream sauce. It was delectable. The lighter side is equally as good, a special artichoke hearts salad with a mustard vinaigrette, was equally tasty. Overall, the food was very filling, so much so that we had to pass on desert, but it did look very good. The price was also a surprise, very reasonable for two."

"Food was great, service great, menu was nicely done and there was a great mix of traditional French food with some twists as well as some meals that appeal to people willing to reach out and try something new such as lamb brains (I was not that wild though) I had the in house made sausage and it was great. My wife had had the hangar steak with blue cheese sauce, which was nicely done as well. Loved the location central DC across the street from Ford's Theater."
