Rye, a restaurant celebrating Midwestern recipes, traditions, and culture using local Kansas & Missouri flavors and farmers. Rye restaurant in Leawood, Kansas, just south of Kansas City, will celebrate the Midwestern foods that chefs Megan and Colby Garrelts grew up eating. Both of these chefs are proud to be from the Midwest and Rye gives them the opportunity to showcase dishes that they have enjoyed with several generations of their families. They will pay homage to those heritage dishes that the Midwest is known for succulent smoked pork chops, aged steaks, baby back ribs, fried chicken, vegetables just off the stove, Parker House rolls, freshly made seasonal pies, fruit cobblers, and ice box cakes to name a few. Their food at Rye will take traditional dishes and give them a chef’s point of view, while preserving the important heritage of the dish. Chefs Megan and Colby will use fresh, locally-sourced ingredients and products including produce from their family farm.

"A truly super meal! I had the buttered shrimp with grits, a bit concerned that it might be too rich to eat all of it. It was perfect and I enjoyed every bite. I was also able to taste the trout and fried chicken from my friends' plates and found them to be fabulous as well. Our server was gave wonderful descriptions about many of the entrees which we found most helpful in making our choices. Looking forward to returning soon!"

"After months of trying to get a reservation, my wife and I were able to get a table at Rye for our 17th Anniversary dinner. It was worth the hype and wait, best experience in KC yet. The wait staff was clearly hand picked and know their menus, gave excellent recommendations and paired the wine perfectly. The wine list is a little short but the options are not common which peaked our interests, and were extremely well priced. The food was out of this world delicious and the ambiance was simply outstanding. The mix of comfort food with a modern flair is brilliant. We will certainly be regulars here, assuming we can get a reservation, well done!"

"From start to finish, service was outstanding. Friendly staff. Brunch portion sizes were perfect. I am already craving more apple fritters, blueberry muffins and of course pie. The burnt end hash I ordered was delicious & topped with 2 perfectly cooked sunny side up eggs. Yum. Cheers to the entire staff at Rye for such a great experience. Can't wait to return."

"This was my second visit to Rye and I was happy but not as impressed as my first experience. This is a place where you have to order the right thing. They have great, crispy fried chicken. The salmon was delicious as was the hot shrimp and grits (pretty salty though). I ordered the flank steak (recommended by my server) and it was so tough I sent it back. I feel like flank steak can be done really well if its cooked right. They apologized repeatedly and did offer to bring me something else but ended up just comping my meal.
It's a great atmosphere ... The food is good but not amazing. If you like southern food you will be pleased."

"The chef just won a really prestigious award and the food did not disappoint! Went with my grandfather and my mother and everyone was happy all around. I had the excellent hanger steak, my grandfather had fried chicken, and my mom had shrimp and grits. The wine list was really great and I had a wonderful dry Riesling before the meail. We definitely recommend this restaurant and I plan to return in the not too distant future.
It was a little noisy which made conversation a little difficult. But a crowd hopefully indicates that the restaurant will succeed and be around for a long time."

"The best things about Rye are that the food is delicious, the service perfectly suited to the feel of the restaurant, and that reservations are accepted. Although it's menu doesn't cater directly to vegetarians, it's easy to create a yummy lunch for one's self and be more than satisfied. There's also excellent fish, so those of us who don't eat pork or red meat are happy as can be. I love that Rye's focus is local and that many of its vendor sources are nearby as well. I think the chefs have beautifully accomplished their goal of basing a modern cuisine on that of their grandmothers."

"Great chicken! (Best ever per my wife who is the real foodie of the pair.) All the food was wonderful and with the focus on seasonal ingredients it all tastes so fresh and vibrant. The worst thing I can say is that it's not a cheap date place, but if your looking for an excellent hardy meal, Rye needs to be in consideration!"

"Service at lunch seemed slower than on previous visits, however our waiter was very pleasant. We had heard that the pie was something special, but ordered lemon and cocoanut cream and wouldn't recommend either as outstanding. Overall the experience was okay."

"I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and it was delicious! The meat was so tender and flavorful. The only downside was the bottom bun was a bit soggy, I imagine from the slaw on the sandwich.
I also loved the chips = so flavor-full.
The pickles are a bit vineagar-y but I got used to that and ate them all:~)"

"Each item on the menu will surprise you with the depth of flavors that can be presented in what appears to be "known" dishes. Don't fail to have a bowl of whatever soup is being featured. They have been repeatedly excellent and imaginative. Also, don't be frightened by the XXX on the hot sauce bottle. Not all that spicy (even by Kansas standards) but with a smoky background that will make you want to tuck it in your pocket for any number of other uses at home.Highly recommended as a place for a very reasonably priced lunch that a guest will not forget. This is where I take out-of-towners for a sophisticated taste of the midwest."

"Another gem from Megan and Colby Garrelts, the creators of Bluestem. Have been there 3 times, with different friends, and everything anyone has ordered has been excellent. I think the Canellini Beans are the best thing on the menu. I want to go back the next day to get more. If you want something fried, the Chicken Fried Pork is excellent. So was the Buttered Shrimp with pulled pork over grits. Megan, as usual, does an amazing job with the desserts. You think you can't eat another thing, but must get dessert, because it will make you swoon all over again. Pies all excellent. The brown butter ice cream that comes with the carrot cake is exceptional. You've had many of these dishes before, but never this good."

"Service was WAY too fast. We had dinner reservations at 7....we live 20 blocks away & had a quick errand to run on the way home...we were home by 8. Too bad, it was our first time dining at Rye & we were really excited for a nice evening out. Instead we felt rushed & more like we'd gone to a fast food restaurant. The food was delicious & the space is nice (besides the too cramped long bench of two tops,) but overall it was not a good experience."

"We have been avid fans of Bluestem and have been wanting to give Jeremy, Colby and Garrett's new place a test. We chose to go on our anniversary...long and short, never again. We walked in and sat down at the bar. There were three bartenders behind the bar having a "spat". Eventually one of the bartenders took notice (there was only one other couple at the bar) and we ordered a drink. Since our table wasn't ready, we decided to eat at the bar since usually service at bars is good. Salads came out on warm plates, both ordered steaks and they couldn't even get close to the temperature we ordered. Failed miserably on the second attempt so we left very, very disappointed. Try one of the many other restaurants in Mission Farms instead."

"My guests and I had a wonderful dining experience at Rye. I had requested special treatment for my friends, and we were treated specially from the moment we walked in the door until the moment we left. While the service was great, the food was spectacular. "A fabulous combination of casual dining and unbelievable delicious food. It was the best fried chicken I have ever tasted in my life and all other dishes were comparable. Our servers were all fun, energetic and helpful. We took clients to celebrate the end of a very successful project and it was the perfect evening."

4 for lunch, first time for all. Noon reservations. Pork tenderloin was bland, as was the 2 pieces of dark meat chicken. Burnt ends were cubed and dry, requiring BBQ sauce. Hit was the chicken salad. Nothing wrong with the food, but not the knock you our of your socks reality we had heard. The banana cream pie was short on bananas. Both pieces of pie were small. Service good & attentive throughout. Waiter did only bring 1 dessert menu, we shared. Asked for split tkts up front, but had 2 ask again when single check arrived. Then the split checks were wrong. Decor is OK. We were able to easily talk among ourselves, as the restaurant wasn't crowded as anticipate"

"Walking in to Rye is like being welcomed home. The friendly service and attention given by GM Jeremy and staff makes you want to sit down, relax with some good wine and savor the food that’s coming. We’ve always stuck with the chicken or BBQ, but last night we tried the dry aged ribeye. It’s the best steak in KC. Yes, the best. After sharing an appetizer of the butcher board, 2 of us shared the ribeye that comes with salad and one side. That left barely enough room to have a great apple butter crisp for dessert. And the $40 and under wine list gives us lots of great new choices to try something new. As always, we left happy that we have this kind of great quality food and environment so close to home."
