Keei Cafe

In 1995 with a vision to open a small family "Coffee Cafe" Owner Bob Miyashiro and his wife Gina open the original Keei Cafe in a old former Fish Market in Honaunau, Hawaii on the Big Island. Finally after borrowing enough from their father, Brothers Bob and Dennis along with Sister Joyce the new Keei Cafe was Born in Hokukano. Again with the Brazilian touch for food friendly colors and using local woods, Gina helped create the decor that surrounds the "New" Keei Cafe at Hokukano. Opened in early 2005, the new Cafe features local artist painting and carvings on the walls. Koa table help make the Cafe have a warm and welcome feel perfect for families or guests looking for a resort type meal with a upcounty price. Family owned and operated with the additon of Gina's sister and Brother in Law, Chef Zeze and Batista, in the kitchen to use the freshes local ingredients to prepare creavtive and and delicious menu items with nightly specials. Please come to experience the flavors!

"Enjoyed some great food at a reasonable price. Friendly atmosphere and live music that allowed us to still hold a conversation. A nice view of the ocean in a local neighborhood. Only downfall was the noise from the road below. It was raining so the splash back from the cars was alittle annoying. Will come back for the great food and service."

"This place takes a few minutes from the Kona coast. . It was worth the trip. When we arrived for our 7:45 reservation, we found the restaurant half full. The bad weather must have been the reason, because the food was very good. I had the oven baked Brie with crostini and my husband had the Greek salad for an appetizer. For our entree I had the scallop and shrimp appetizer which was excellent and enough food for me. My husband had the Catch of the Day and was also pleased with his choice. We liked the ambiance and the service was very good. It was a little quirky but pleasant. We prefer a quiet restaurant, which this was, except for some soft background music being played by a local artist. All in all, a very enjoyable evening."

"Been here several times; one of our favorite "special" restaurants on the Island. Last visit on 5/4/13 was a bit disapppointing. Food was still great, but the famous Red Thai Curry sauce on the chicken was changed, without explanation or warning, to yellow curry. When I order Chicken in a red Thai Curry suace, I don't expect (or want) yellow curry. Waiter eventually, on questioning, explained that they had complaints the RED was too spicy, but still, why not warn me when I order or, better yet, change menu? Also almost died of thirst as water was hard to come by once we were served our dinner. Will go back; love the place, but wait staff needs to be more informative and proactive. And, no - my waiter wasn't the owner."

"Last Friday, my wife and I dined at Ke'ei Cafe, located south of Kona. What a great find! We've been coming to Kona for years, but had somehow missed this gem.
We split the Capresse salad with ripe tomatoes, fresh basil, hefty slices of mozzarella and great balsamic. My wife had the ono special in lilikoi wine wine sauce and is still telling people about it. It was a thick fillet, moist and simply delicious! My porkchops with spicy pinapple sauce were also perfectly prepared, moist and tasty.
Save room for dessert. The mango cobbler is their signature dessert and is wonderful. Service was great and we found out at the end of the meal that our server was Bob, the owner.
One note: bring cash as they do not accept credit cards."

"My oh my! We've visited the Kona area in the past, but this was our first visit to the Keei Cafe. We had a delightful experience, including sips of the tasty Caipirinhas done in a proper Brazilian style! Our server was the owner. We had comfortable seating and the pork chop and ahi were cooked just right! Servings were ample, and I can honestly say this was dining as we've come to expect in our hometown on the San Francisco peninsula. Please try this unpretentious, yet culinary gem in South Kona!"

"Usually I have had a pretty good meal at Keei Cafe. I'm wondering if they changed cooks? We ordered sashimi and it didn't taste fresh,a little too fishy. The mashed potatoes were watery, we thought we were eating instant potatoes. The main entre's of chicken and rib eye were good though. Service was great but if food doesn't match it, we're not likely to return for that price."
