One minute off Route 80's Exit 25 at the Morris-Sussex County border on Highway 206 North, the Black Forest Inn features fine Continental-German cuisine in a casual atmosphere. While we offer many German favorites, our menu is very Continental & European influenced by the cuisines of Italy, France and Eastern Europe. On our menu there's something for everyone including plenty of unique hot & cold appetizers, steaks, seafood, chicken, veal, pork, fabulous salads, gourmet sandwiches, and one of the best Angus Burgers you'll ever have.

"I know Mother's Day is pretty busy at restaurants but we booked the Black Forest Inn because my wife & mother love the place. Despite the large crowds once again the Black Forest Inn did not disappoint. Food was outstanding as usual and the service could not have been better. I'm really impressed."

"Maybe the best, most tender, tasty and perfectly cooked duck breast I've ever had anywhere! Melt in your mouth tender and just the right amount of a sauce- glaze accompanying the food. My wife ordered a dinner size serving of maultaschen and it must have been good because she ate just about every bit of it. We don't go there often but when we do it never disappoints."

"This was our early Mother's day dinner. Being of German descent, it was the restaraunt if choice for my mom. Dinners are pricey, but worth every penny. Service was excellent. The dinning room was appropriarely decorated in old world theme without overdoing it. Actually a bit elegant. Menu offerings accomodated many American palates as well. We have been there several times before with the same exoerience."

"My husband and I have been going to the Black Forest Inn for 36 years and have never had a bad meal. It is our "go to" restaurant for very special occasions.The food is of the highest quality and the service is excellent. This past Friday night we were there to celebrate a birthday and for the first time we tried the Friday Buffet...it was amazing! A great why to try a little bit of everything the BFI has to offer. We unreservedly recommend the Black Forest Inn."

"A beautiful German ambiance with a look of black forest wood everywhere. The food is fantastic! As a fish lover their Salmon and Sea Bass could not be beat. Hubby had the pork schnitzel and found it unbelievably superb. The restaurant gives you a choice of two sides which customizes the feast."

"When people mention the Black Forest Inn, I often hear comments like "I don't like German food". But that is a big misconception. My family and I go there often and enjoy a wide variety of entrees that are more "continental" than German. This place is outstanding. The chefs do an excellent job and we never have been disappointed."

"We had Easter dinner here & my husband & I haven't stopped talking about this wonderful German/Continental restaurant. The food was fabulous, the wait staff attentive & professional & the decor was rich, elegant & comfortable. Despite the many diners the noise level was minimum. The Easter menu was nicely varied. My husband's sauerbraten was less briny than expected but richly flavored with wine & spice. My roast lamb was lean, tender, with a flavorful gravy. The mashed potatoes tasted homemade & the red cabbage was also less briny and apple flavored. My escargot in butter & fines herbes appetizer was heavenly! So were the desserts! Worth the $$! We highly recommend BFI for any occasion."

"It was great. 2 of us had the Friday night buffet which was a great deal for only $35.00. Plenty of choices and the chef behind the buffet table couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful. 1 ordered off the menu and the waitress went out of her way to please her. The only issue was the credit card machine was down due to a problem with the phone lines. We had to wait about 20 minutes to pay our bill. But overall it was great and we will be going back soon."

"Not many German restaurants are around anymore. That said this one is a gold mine and should be cherished and commended on every occasion. The food is outstanding and the atmosphere takes you back. I drive 30 minutes to get to this restaurant but would gladly drive longer. The Chef is well trained in Germany and it shows. Portions are perfect the service is excellent. I take my children here ages 8 and 5 and they love the place. My Farher In-Law is a drummer for a polka band and we try to attend when they play here it is a fun fun time to be had when they have a band lots of dancing and merriment."

"Was there for the Seafood Buffet. Hostess was very helpful and accommodating to our request for a booth. Our waitress was helpful and friendly and made us feel welcome. In a word, she was Excellent! The buffet itself was very good. Overall, a little expensive, but well worth it for a special occasion."

"German restaurants are getting harder to find, and this one is very special. Delicious food and beer, many rooms and seating arrangements, and the holiday specials are awesome. The roast goose at Christmas is our favorite, and the pork shank is just awesome. Roast duck is delicious, and the saurbraten is tender and tasty. Many great appetizers. We just keep going back for more."

"Have enjoyed this restaurant in the past, but this time they get a very low score. Food was lukewarm (plate was hot, food was not) and too salty. I couldn't believe how salty the 3 sauces on the Veal Medallions were (so I took the veal home, washed the sauce off, and had a great Veal Parmesan). It was a special for the evening and the veal was cooked perfectly but the sauces were terrible. A mouthful of green beans also proved to be even saltier than the sauces. My husband ordered the House-made Bratwurst on Sauerkraut but could only get one side, since the Sauerkraut counted as a "side." Service was slow, 10 minutes to even get water, 20 minutes to take our drink order, and they were understaffed. We drove an hour to celebrate our wedding"

"Enjoyed the food & waitress was excellent. Through Open Table, I had requested a quiet location as my spouse is hearing impared. We showed up at 6pm, approximately 30 minutes earlier than our reservation, and there were only a handful of patrons in the area we were seated and other open tables during the time we were there.
The problem is, we were seated directly below a speaker playing music. There were other vacant tables without speakers directly above them. I could have requested another table once I noticed the speaker, but we were already seated, and I prefer not to make this an issue as it draws attention to a disability that my wife would much rather not be reminded of.
