Giulia Restaurant
Giulia is a chef-owned Italian restaurant located between Harvard and Porter Squares in Cambridge. This is the first restaurant of award-winning Chef Michael Pagliarini. Our focus is on inspired food and great service with true Italian vigor. We put a particular focus on our hand-crafted pastas, made each day on our custom-built chef"s table adjacent to the open kitchen.

"We had the tasting menu and each dish was as good, if not better than the last -- we cleaned off every plate! The waiter gave us explanations of each dish, and the wine that was paired with it. Every plate was perfectly balanced: rich meats and cheeses were paired with acid or vegetables to add a great contrast. While it was hard to specify a favorite, the veal ravioli with chard melted in your mouth. The food was true to its Italian roots, but you definitely got the chef's personal touch. I can't wait to go back again."

"This was our second dinner at Giulia, after having raved about our first to our daughter and her husband. None of us were disappointed! First of all, the interior is warm, charming, and very romantic. The service is wonderful. Such a courteous, attentive, delightful wait staff! And the food is divine. Lest I forget, the desserts were delicious. We will definitely be back for more!"

"I showed up late for my reservation and they had not given away my table. I really appreciated their attention to detail when it came to service. It was a special occasion and everyone who worked in the restaurant made it that much more special. The food was very good. I had a hard time choosing between the main plates and the pasta. The lobster gnocchi was very good."

"My wife and I have been living int his neighborhood for over thirty years and have dined in the previous restaurants that located inthe site. To say that we were overwhelmed by Guila is an understatement. We found the staff to be absolutely orientated to making the guest comfortable. Our server recommended that we share our selections, which was a perfect way to sample the wide assortment available. Service was impeccable food portions were adequate and sharing was a great idea. On the way out we noticed several neighbors dinning, which means that Guiulia has succeeded in becoming not only our favorite but also a neighborhood favorite.

"Everything was great except the rib eye steak. It was the most expensve item on the menu ($36). It was tough and a bit too thin. It was overwhelmed with salsa verde. The lemon, that was recommended, seemed odd for a steak, especially one that should be able to stand on it's own."

"I got my introduction to fiddle heads-- the baby ferns that look like green treble clefs -- at Giulia's, and they were divine. Also, the fresh pasta with asparagus was out of this world. "The food was delicious and beautifully presented and the service excellent but portions are very small and expensive....We left feeling like we needed to have a snack when we got home. If we had ordered from more than the main course portion we would have been ok...But for a $28 entrée and a small side we thought it would have been ok. The friend I was with always takes half the meal home for the next day....But not this time....If I go back I will order more courses and be prepared to spend too much for a neighborhood restaurant meal."

"I went to Giulia when it first opened and had an amazing meal. We went back this week for my birthday and this gem of a restaurant has only improved. We had the extraordinary five course chef's tasting menu, and I am still dreaming about the incredible flavors and creativity of the meal. What a treat! I love the space, too, with the open bar and those lovely table runners. This place really is a treasure; the food is a wonderful blend of traditional and inventive, the service is warm, and the ambience is inviting and not stuffy. They have quickly become one of our favorite restaurants!"

"Guilia, a newcomer to our neighborhood is a first class restaurant in every way. We love it and have eaten there four times now since it opened. The food is imaginative and very good, the atmosphere casual as well as serious about food. I do wish that the wait staff wouldn't interrupt at every course to ask if what you're wolfing down is good? How is the desert? is not a question we need to be asked. I wish restaurants as a whole would stop these wait staff visits. If there's a problem we'll let them know. At Giulia there has never been any cause to complain. We are so happy that it is doing well in our town."

"Giulia has a rustic ambience, and an authentic Italian multi-course menu. Staff were professional and welcoming. We shared the semolina cakes with lardo-delightful, light, lemony cylindrical puffs topped with a thin layer of unctuous lardo. Next we shared a generous salumi plate, followed by the veal breast ravioli, which were fabulous. Finally, my husband had the house made lamb sausage and I had the striped bass with manila clam risotto. We were both a little underwhelmed. There was nothing wrong with either dish -- the prior courses were just tough acts to follow. As is often the case in fine dining establishments, I find the small plates more interesting than main courses. I will definitely return."

"This restaurant knocked it out of the park. Delicious from the tiny starters (try the semolina cakes) through the antipasti (tiny clams), the papperdelle with wild boar and full on into the chocolate terrine. Everyone at the table was blown away. The only issue was the pace, slow to get that first cocktail, really slow, then a little quick but that will surely improve by the next time we eat there. I am ready to go back as soon as I add some money to the coffers. Every penny worth it. Go!"

"This new addition to the Cambridge food scene located between Harvard and Porter Sq is showing its youth. substantially priced and food, service and ambiance not quite up to the price tag. Growing pains? Our server hovered and the manager almost rude...let's try to be a bit more gracious, folks."

"It was our first time trying this new restaurant and we thought it was amazing. The menu is slightly different from your usual Italian restaurant. I had the duck sausage and quail which was very good and my friend ordered the skate, also very good. Decent wine selection. But what we loved the most was the service! It was some of the best service I have had in awhile, our waiter was outstanding, very knowledgeable of the wine list and the menu itself, and he made great recommendations. We would definitely go back."

"Service was friendly, professional, and attentive. The space is small, but they have done their best to make efficient use of it, with a small and unobtrusive host stand, an elevated dining space to break up the floor, and tables that are spaced such that you are close to your neighbors but can still hold discreet conversations with your party. The food was very good with a great amount of attention to detail; I would, however, prefer a heavier hand with salt. The Umbrian lentils are nicely cooked but the extra-virgin olive oil is a bit overpowering. Their pastas are beautifully done and perfectly al dente; they were the highlight of the meal. Their pistachio ice cream tastes more of almonds to me; I'd recommend the panna cotta over it."

"Giulia is THE best restaurant in Cambridge. It's like walking into CHEERS - "...where everyone knows your name" - but with fabulous food and wine. The staff are warm, friendly, family-like, but never intrusive. The food is not typical Italian, but rather interesting, true to the region, and always done to perfection. I've been going there since the restaurant opened, and it only gets better, week to week. The "nostrale" are always intersting and offer opportunities to try new food choices. Cambridge is indeed fortunate to have such a gem in our neighborhood!"

"Food was delicious, but a bit pricey for such small portions. It was recommended to us by our waitress to order something from each of the menu sections for a "full meal". However a few of us got just an antipasto and a pasta and that was enough. Service was excellent as well as ambiance!"

"We enjoyed Guilia...nice to have a good Italian restaurant in Cambridge. Mind you, it's not traditional Italian...you won't find lasagne and veal parm here..it's more gourmet. very tasty. we had the pappardelle with wild boar and the veal ravioli...both were very flavorful. the atmosphere is nice...brick walls, dim lights, contempo-casual stylish. the service was excellent. our waiter, andrea, was very friendly and knowledgable about the food. the host seemed to be on top of everything. even the chefs took time to wave and smile at my 2-year old daughter when I brought her to watch them in action from the open view of the kitchen. this is not to say it's a family place...it's more of a romantic restaurant."

"The ambiance is fantastic - exposed brick, sophisticated but cozy- and the service was spot on. That said, the menu is was a little too gourmet for my taste. While I appreciate that pasta servings are small so that you can order multiple dishes and share, the prices are too high for that approach. The food was tasty, but my fiance and I questioned whether it was worth the price."
