Ba Restaurant takes a fresh look at Cal-French cuisine. Chef James Graham selects seasonal local ingredients to craft his daily menu with French inspired flavors and rustic techniques. Seasonal favorites include Chicken Croquettes, and Duck Confit.
The artist curated modern eclectic interior is perfect for casual weeknight dinners, special occasions, and late night snacks. It's also a favorite neighborhood spot for weekend brunch.
The winelist changes often and features unique French wines, and Ba Restaurant offers a great selection of local micro brews.

"Ba is a charming little French-style bistro, and their steak frites was delicious. The service, although very friendly, was not as responsive as we would have liked given that we had a show to attend after the meal. Also, did not feel that the soundtrack did much to enhance the ambiance, but at least it wasn't overly loud like so many places lately. I would like to return."

"Very nice decor, service, and French menu. Mushroom brie was fabulous. Good wines available although not fancy sommelier-level. Enjoyed it thoroughly."

"My two friends and I had a wonderful, well-proportioned meal on a Friday night recently at BA. We started with 2 appetizers - scallops and 3 types of mushrooms with burned brie - both were very delicious. I had a steak with fries as my entree and it was perfectly cooked. We shared two desserts - wedding cake and creme brulee - wow and wow! Chef James Graham welcomed us at our table and shared a story about the herbs and fresh ingredients. The entire evening was a perfect dining experience. I strongly recommend going to BA for lunch, dinner or brunch!"

"This small, beautifully appointed room gives an air of quiet luxury in this changing neighborhood. We shared the ahi tartare starter, but it was a mistake, because we both couldn't believe how freshly delicious it was and could have easily had one apiece. The presentation was beautiful and the tuna was super fresh and in larger bite-size pieces, rather than the mushy chopped texture many ahi tartares seem to have. The deeply fragrant broth of the Moroccan lamb stew was out of this world with spice, tender lamb and perfectly cooked couscous. A classic filet Bernaise had super fresh tarragon and flavorful and tender baby squash and fingerling potatoes. A wonderful Bordeaux paired perfectly with our meal, while being reasonably priced."

"Appetizers: we had Mushroom Brulee, salmon croquettes, spinach soup and duck liver mousse. The Brulee, surprised with its creamy, inscrutable depths, but the croquettes were tasty, too. Two of our party had the lamb sirloin and we gobbled every bite, including all the sauce, wiping down our plates with the tender and tasty French bread. The other members ordered Steak au Poivre and Moule Frite, which was mussels in a "bowl" of delicious pommes frites. As we were not familiar with French wines, our server helped us to select one suited to the food as well as our tastes and we chose a bottle of Chinon (red with earthy notes). We were never rushed. Although the sound was energetic, we could actually hear each other talk. We will return!"

"My boyfriend and I have had the pleasure of dining at Ba many times, often with equally pleased friends, for both dinner and brunch, and have never been disappointed. The chef and staff are earnest and welcoming without being overpowering. The space is on the small side, but that only gives a fine dining experience a neighborhood feel. The design is a great play between subtle color and found objects composed nicely on the walls. The menu has some excellent go-to dishes (mushroom brûlée, cheese/charcuterie plate, creme brûlée) then rotates main dishes depending on the season / week. If the duck cassoulet is on the menu, get it. Also strong are the fried chicken, the lamb sirloin, and they make a delicious flaky white fish."

"This was our first time at Ba. We can be tough on restaurants but there was no reason to be on this visit. First class all the way. We'll be back soon!"

"Loved it. Although they were very accommodating of my two daughters (6 years and 18 months), it was not a place for a squirmy toddler. I look forward to going back for a date night with my husband ."

"Tucked away on York Street in Highland Park, Ba is a great French bistro. Small, quiet with excellent food and attentive service. Menu and wine list are selective and excellent. We are new to LA and it is our go to place for a quiet, fun diner together."

"We went for brunch, but will definitely return for dinner. Exquisite, flaky crust on my quiche with local heirloom tomatoes, fantastic French wine list, beautiful decor, and the NYTimes to boot. I could make this a weekly ritual."

"Went for a girls night out. Wait staff was very friendly, although not very knowledgeable about the food and it's origins, etc. Second time at the restaurant and left again feeling like I could've used a little more oomph during my dining experience."

"My friend and I had a Blackboard Eats deal and that was reason enough to stop by. It's nice to see a more upscale restaurant in this neighborhood. We shared the mushroom brulee, which was very rich and flavorful. My friend ordered the moules frites and I ordered the local vegetable platter that had fresh asparagus, spinach, and wild rice. The service was very attentive and the food was very savory and satisfying!"

"Went there for dinner on a weeknight with two people and had a great meal. Returned on a weekend with a large group and the food and service were unremarkable to say the least. I won't go back, which is a bummer because after my first meal, I thought it would be my new favorite restaurant.
Would not recommend or go back."

"Our second trip was as enjoyable as the first just a coule of weeks ago. Small restaurant with an appropriately focused menu that changes often.. Our excellent waiter is always a master of the menu items and the wine to pair with it."

"Best restaurant on the Northeast LA! Friendly service and Fresh, seasonal menu and delictately flavored and tasty french/california preparations. Spare menu and wine list -- all affordable and enjoyable. Desserts are lovely but wish there were a few more options. 20 tables so reservations are helpful. We've tried it four times in two months and the chef has delighted us each time."

"A second chance dining experience due to BlackBoardEats coupon for free bottle of wine with dinner led us back to BA, which is down the street from us.
The only things which were good were the Moules Frites and the Charcuterie plate. The salad had a bizarre dressing which was redolent of Kiehl's Lotion and unfit to eat as well as overpowered the Arugula salad.
This is also the second horrendous experience with Duck for us at BA. By its very nature duck is a flavorful meat especially the leg when confited. Yet somehow the chef stripped this of all its flavor. The accompanying beans were undercooked and bland. Horrible."

"One dish was good. The rest were almost inedible. Had no flavor at all. Salt would have helped, but they don't have salt or pepper on the table. I really wanted this restaurant to be good because it is not far from my neighborhood, but I was very disappointed."

"Ba was a wonderful experience. We were greeted politely and promptly and shown to our table. We chose the smoked quail and mushroom gratin. Both were excellent. The gratin was quite rich and with a salad would have provided a wonderful dinner. The quail was smoky and had a delicious and piquant bbq sauce which must have had lardons and balsamic vinegar.
Dinner was chard and steak frites. The chard was served with broccoli. All excellent.
Dessert was the flourless chocolate cake with creme anglaise. Really nice. The cake was dense without being overpowering, and the sauce was to die for."

"There is a disconnect between this restaurant's image and aspiration and it's actual performance. The food just isn't that great. I've read on blogs some fairly harsh descriptions that are not far from the point. Of course, half the people can hardly tell the difference. And I appreciate that they are trying to keep prices reasonable -- probably a necessity in that neighborhood. We are not talking about things that can be tinkered with: the chef fundamentally cannot tell O.K. cuisine from great. What a shame, just the kind of restaurant that would boost a neighborhood that keeps getting more interesting and attractive.
I'll return & try everything on the menu -- and review again. I desperately want to give them every chance."
