"The Grocery exceed our expectations and we were already discussing a return trip before we'd even left. Everything we tried was excellent. We enjoyed the crispy pimento cheese snack while deciding on bites and plates. Along with our entrees, everyone loved the shared cauliflower casserole and wood fired broccoli sides."

"Read about The Grocery in The New York Times Magazine--sounded fabulous--WAS!

My companion and I waited only briefly & seated at a lovely table near the window. The server was meticulous in preparation of the presentation of the tablescape. Ambiance romantic & edgy. The different sizes of plates (bites, small, entrees, table and side) gave us plenty of choices.
Started off with fried pimento cheese bites-- Southern/crunchy/melty. Moving on to fresh farm bread, duck confit with pickled cauliflower, an entree of Grouper over polenta and a leek side salad. Every dish prepared perfectly--a foodie's dream.
Champagne and decadent desserts in the convivial bar with family. One of best restaurants ever eaten in Including Paris!
Will return!"

"We had a late lunch and decided on piecing together the small portions. The food was all cooked really well. The carrot dish was outstanding. Dessert was worth the order. My water glass was never even close to empty, the entire staff was friendly. The house made charcuterie (piggy plate) was very tasty and the bread was from a local bakery and tasted amazing!. We would go back very often if we didn't live 1000 miles away!! Also, we were there the night of cofc graduation (and night before Mother's Day) and our table was spacious, the dining room was full by about 6 pm but the noise level never got too high, we never felt rushed or neglected!! It's a top recommendation from me!"

"Five of us planned ahead and made reservations to try The Grocery after going to the art gallery walk. It was busy and stayed that way so reservations are a good idea. The food was delicious, the service prompt and efficient, and we had a great booth area that was great. All of us were very pleased with our selections and I will definitely put it on my list of places to dine in again."

"If you want to make a mark in a city with as many great restaurants as Charleston, you have to be exceptional. That is exactly what The Grocery is - exceptional! The food was absolutely delicious, the service was almost impeccable(only erring on the side of over-serving slightly) and the setting and decor are very cool. It's a little loud because it's essentially one big open room with an open kitchen but you won't notice because you will be immersed in the food.

Don't walk, RUN!!!"

"I was just in town for a weekend but heard of this place through a magazine article. Really great spot, delicious food. We went for brunch on Sunday so it was full but fairly quiet. "We heard rave reviews about The Grocery and couldn't wait to try it out. We went on a Friday at 7pm. The restaurant is beautiful, comfortable and welcoming. There was a private party in a separate room close to our section. It seemed to disrupt the flow of servers and staff. Our server seemed preoccupied and not fully engaged with our table. We started our meal with the Piggy Plate and Fried Oysters, Deviled Egg Sauce, Bread and Butter Pickles. This was the best course of the night. We chose entrees of mackerel, lamb and wreckfish. Each diner found one positive aspect about their entree, but overall found the flavor profile lacking. We would entertain the idea of enjoying the bar area, but would probably not return for dinner."

"Local foods and ingredients are the theme. The pickle plate with butter pickles, pickled green tomatoes, okra, and broccoli made us pleasantly pucker up. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the far-apart-on-your-plate short ribs; best ribs in town. Everything on our table was tip-top, the only thing that would've made it better is if perhaps there was a little less black pepper on the cauliflower casserole, but even that was delish. We'll be back!"

"I loved the atmosphere at The Grocery. However, I must admit that I was a little disappointed in the food. The locally brewed 'rye' beer was outstanding and the Duck Confit was very good. The soft shell crab entree was good but not any better than any other soft shell crab dish I've had. Also, I respect the use of seasonal vegetables but all the dishes we ordered had asparagus and radishes. That was a little bizarre. Actually, my favorite dish was the cauliflour side."

"Visiting during soft shell crab season led to that entree choice, and it was excellent. But the star of the show was the wood-roasted clams appetizer for me and the crunchy pimiento cheese nuggets for my wife. Her braised short ribs were perfect. We shared a side of spring onions with our entrees, and they blended perfectly on our plates Cozy but not noisy, with impeccable service and attitude. Nice touch to have bread served by the slice from a basket that never emptied. Best dining experience of our week's visit!"

"We had a reservation which they were 30 minutes late seating us but once seated the service was great and efficient which helped with the delay of actually getting to the table. A photo shoot for diners was being done in the bar area which was probably a poor choice to conduct on a busy Saturday night. Food was very good and the staff was knowledgeable. I would go again."

"We chose The Grocery due to its proximity to The Village on Woolfe theatre which is only a block away. We had tickets for the play at 7:30 so made a reservation for 6:00. We were seated immediately and were served promptly but not hurriedly. Our server, Sarah, noted that we were on our way to the theatre and saw to it that we were eating by 6:30 and out the door by 7:10. We had non-alcholoic drinks with pineapple and ginger which were very refreshing. I ordered the Triggerfish with knoche and peas, which was very good and just the right portion size. My husband had the scallop entree with carrots, which he enjoyed very much. We also ordered a side of roasted potatoes, which were excellent. Good people watching!

"Had a great dining experience here and would highly recommend to anyone! Fun for groups and dining style certainly makes sharing ideal! It was casual elegant w/o being pretentious. Extroidinarly high food quality, great presentation and excellent service. The whole fish with salsa verde sauce and banana pudding were outstanding!! Bringing farm to table to reality in its purest form! Loved it!!!"

"We had relatives in town who wanted to try this restaurant after overhearing people recommending it on the flight into Charleston. I was embarrassed to admit I had never heard of The Grocery. I’m really glad I didn’t overrule them and go to another restaurant I was familiar with. The service, food, and beverages were spectacular. Total bill for 2 was $175, which included appetizers, good bottle of wine, entrees and dessert. It was a great night. Can't wait to go there again!"

"We live in Charleston and this has been one of our "go to" restaurants for great food and service. This visit was a disappointment, food wise. Two of the three cocktails we ordered, were cloying sweet, for our tastes. The soft shell crab dish was severely overly salted, for us. The shrimp/kale salad, that I have ordered many times in the past, was not up to it's usual deliciousness...I'm not sure what the difference was but it did not taste the same. The ribeye steak plate, that we have also had at a previous visit and loved was a disappointment. The potatoes were not crisp but rather mushy and the bone marrow lacked any significant marrow.Steak was cooked fine
The service was excellent, as usual. Every concern addressed immediately"

Featured cocktails made with house-infused spirits are well worth the $2 premium. I wasn't feeling duck or quail for brunch, but am eager to return to explore the menu further. Off-street parking is available which is a major convenience.

Our green eggs and ham & poached eggs, chorizo and salsa verde hit the spot perfectly, with the standout being the green eggs: dredged in spices after poaching and flash fried to create a little bit of crunch -- delicious.
