"Mastro's has its haters, but if you know what you're getting into (easily $100 per person dinner) then just sick back and enjoy the ride. My husband and I went to Palm Desert to celebrate his birthday, and dinner at Mastro's was definitely the highlight. I can't say it enough... if there are special occasions you're celebrating or little tidbits about your likes/dislikes... notate them in the reservation! Because I did we had a great quiet table and the birthday dessert (complimentary) was butter cake instead of the usual chocolate. We had the Tomahawk ribeye this time (fantastic) but I still think the $30 cheaper chef's cut is better. To each his own. They need to rename the dish lobster mashed potatoes to lobster mashed roofies. Yum"

"The steak is perfect & melts in your mouth. The gnocchi & lobster mashed potatoes are heavenly. The butter cake is to die for. The service is inpeccable. You may want to take out a 2nd on your house before you go to Mastro's. You'll definitely need that extra cash. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$"

"Palm Desert is growing up. As a fan and regular of Mastro's Beverly Hills, it's great to see that the Palm Desert branch of the best Steak restaurant in the country got everything right. They hit all the right notes, including FANTASTIC live entertainment. Went for my Mother's Birthday, probably the best service I've ever had in the Coachella Valley, and of course the food was the ne plus ultra of steak. After all, it's Mastro's-and they MORE than lived up to the name. If you want somewhere memorable to go for a special occasion, or just the best meal in Palm Desert, look no further."

"This was our second visit to Maestro's and this time was better, but still not fantastic. We started with the burrata and heirloom salad. Half of the tomatoes were so hard they could not be cut with a regular knife. The salmon entrée was so overcooked that it was beyond dry. I ordered the scallops appetizer as my entrée and they were good. Our guest had the bone-in filet and it was better than average. The asparagus was awesome and they tailored a meal for my 4-year old daughter. Our service was phenomenal! Kendra was super attentive and helpful. On both of the dishes that were sub-par, she immediately remedied the situation. The wine that Kendra recommended from our two top choices was amazing as well. Overall, we had a nice dinner."

"Food and service were top notch. Blows away Mortons and Ruth Chris. Only drawback is that it is noisy and tough to converse. Still a great place to try if you love an great steak house. Must haves: Bone in Filet, Lobster Mashed Potatoes, Seafood Tower and the Butter Cake. The Butter Cake is simply the best dessert that I have ever tasted in my entire life. No joke!!"

"Meal was very good but continued the trend of all other Mastro's not being quite as good as the Beverly Hills location. I've now eaten at Palm Desert, Beverly HIlls, Newport and Costa Mesa locations. My steak (ordered medium rare) was a bit overcooked, piping hot in the middle making it a bit chewier than I like but obviously still a pretty good steak. We always get the lobster mashed potatoes and they never let us down. Tough to complain about such a good meal but Beverly Hills is just a step above. Palm Desert served the Butter cake with a ton of ice cream (only area where they surpassed bev hills location)... oh and if you have never tried the butter cake, try the butter cake... just trust me."

"We were reluctant to try Mastro's in Palm Desert because of the reviews. But we went anyway to try it for ourselves. It was fabulous! Just goes to show you -- you can't believe what you read on those sites. The service was gracious and friendly. They seated us right away. The food was so good. The tomato burrata and filet were excellent, along with the sides. We ate way too much. Oh and the martini's are perfect. Of course the warm butter cake is out of this world. We will return at every occasion we can."

"Arrived at 5:45... Seated immediately right next to only other occupied table in the restaurant. . Music from bar was very loud. Waiter( Brandon...Bradford?..) did not explain specials and while he was adequate, he did not make us feel like we were welcome, no smile. Another table got sat in a different section and the waiter was , warm welcoming and explained menu as well as all the specials. I felt a little like we were 2nd class citizens to Brandon or Bradford or whatever his name was. Food was very good and rest of staff was efficient. We had our 12 year old daughter with us and were casually dressed Maybe these facts led to an unenthusiastic waiter?"

"We enjoyed dining at Mastro's. Steaks were prepared to perfection and the sides were good. What sets Mastro's apart from some other high end steakhouses is their fish/sushi selections for the non-steak eaters. Our server (David) was very professional and regularly checked in on us. Overall service and pacing for the evening was good, we never had to wait for anything. As some other reviews have noted, the restaurant is somewhat tight, with the tables fairly close together. When the bar is full and the live music is playing, the sound levels get quite loud. If you are looking for a quite/romantic place to dine, this is probably not the best choice. If you are looking for a fun/classic steakhouse with solid food, then give Mastro's a try."

"We had our first experience at Mastro's Thursday night, to celebrate our 33rd anniversary.. Needless to say, we were treated like royalty! No less than 5 employees wished us happy anniversary!! Our server, David, was exceptional!! Our crab cocktail, veal chop and sea bass was perfection!! David treated us to a very special piece of anniversary cake!! We concluded our Mastro's evening by stopping in the bar for an after dinner drink. Very vibrant with attentive bartenders and a fun singing duo. Great night!!"

"We had a birthday dinner and Marco was top notch! He kept the drinks flowing, taking time to pour and repour drinks. He made sure that the food came out in a timely manner. We didn't feel rushed. With a party of 6 Marco made each person feel welcome and tended to everyones needs individually.
Oh! And my husband said it was the best steak he has ever....EVER had! That says a lot!
The seafood tower was fresh and tasty. Lobster mashed potato to die for! Rack of Lamb was the size of my 2 fists. I can't rave enough about the food and service!
It puts the other steakhouses to shame.

"TOO LOUD!!! Music and patrons!! You can't hear your dinner partner. It's so offensively loud it impacts the quality of your whole experience. This was our third or fourth visit - I don't think we can returrn. I had thought things were getting better. I was wrong. There are so many steakhouses in the desert, Morton's Ruth's Chris, etc., why put yourself through this?"

"I have had the pleasure of dining on numerous occasions at your incredible resturant, the food ,service and ambiance is many steps above anything in our valley.
Sunday i brought in a party of seven for a dual birthday celebration and also show off what i have been telling my guest about the excellence of the food( they are Ruth Cris junkies).
The majority ordered steaks at my recommendation and to my shock my steak and one of the junkies was mediocre at best. I called this to the attention of our server and additional steaks were made to replace what we were served. A young lady manager interveined, apologized and picked up the whole bill, and although this is not what i wanted to happened, i was most impressed on her insistence."

"Just excellent. Including the courtesy call the following day to insure we had a positive dining experience. Noise an issue, request to be seated in one of the more private rooms away from the bar area, otherwise--no conversation is possible due to noise. Due to this a rating of 4 stars not 5, very hard to make that decision."

"Have been to many steakhouses in the past. I found this one vert elegant with very fine service. Cocktails were perfectly mixed presented and served. A bit generous I must add. Nice bread service although a bit hard. I found the steaks served as ordered but lacking in taste and flavor. Sorry to say but very disapointing for a place billed as the BEST. The prices were a little more than a bit high but would have been substantiated had the steaks been exceptional. Want exceptional? Try the River Palm in Edgewater New Jersey!!"

"Had dinner there and was a little hesitant after a few negative reviews on Yelp. I'm so glad I ignored the negative reviews! I was seated promptly (I had rsvp. The waiter offered us drinks right away, i had the suggested lemon drop martini, it was delicious! The flavor was incredible! I ordered the bone-in filet mignon and the taste was incredible and cooked to perfection. I also really liked that they had a lot of sides to choose from. Overall, great experience and can't wait to go back!"

"We took my dad for his 80th. The first table was by the bar and we couldn't hear. We requested a second table and they moved was to a smaller table in another room. Our waiter was fantastic and we loved that we each shared a steak and they grilled each order to perfection.. We loved thecreamedspinach and,o ster mash potatoes too.

"All in all it was a great dining experience. The bone-in Filet was outstanding - the best I've ever eaten! Side dishes were enough for 4 people to share. The only down side was the noise level. We were seated by 2 large groups who were loud and we could barely hear ourselves talk. For some the lighting level could prove difficult. I believe waiters have flashlights if one is needed. I would definitely return to Mastro's!"

"We are loyal customers, dining at the Bev. Hills location at least once a month. Took my dad and group for 75th b-day. Not the best experience. Two of us ordered warm spinach salad, which did not arrive warm to the table. They took both back and did not charge us for them. Two of us ordered Halibut which was a special. Both were bone dry. Sent it back and they did finally send out a nice piece of fish. We asked the waiter to bring us the 'butter cake' for birthday dessert. When he came to the table, he had a large slice of chocolate cake instead. To be fair, they haven't been open long and maitre'd did try his best to make things right by removing items off the check. I'd wait a while to go back."

"The food and service at Mastro's was excellent. The presentation was elegant and prompt. The only draw back was the noise level and a very crowded bar (meat market) that was standing room only. This new, since November, steakhouse was pricy with and expensive and large wine selection. The drinks were well crafted. We will go again since we thoroughly enjoyed our meal, but we will go early. Late it is a mob scene. I think there have been several restaurants previously in Mastro's space and I hope Mastro's makes it in the current location. Mastro's is a small but growing chain of steakhouses. All in all our experience was excellent."
