"As is the case with many french restaurants, you do not find food prepared this way in many establishments. It was very tastey. Portions were not large, but they weren't inconveniently small either. It was on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. The flavor was outstanding. I'd reccommend it to any one with an open mind to flavor."

"The food was exquiste and well formed. The cocktails were original and tasty. The servers were extremely aware of items on menu, items that are different from most restaurants, and they did well to explain and offer advice. For the discerning pallette, this bistro stands out from the rest. You won't be dissappointed!"

"It's great! LOVE the atmosphere and decor. It's the perfect balance of rustic and refined. The food is delicious and creative. The service was top notch. My only complaint was that I ordered a steak and asked for medium rare. It was cooked PERFECTLY, but it was not hot when I got it. I didn't send it back for fear it would be overcooked if they heated it up. Still super-delicious! I was splitting it with a friend and they even divided it on the plate for us into 2 beautiful portions with all the accompaniments. Love the cheese and meats! They made a beautiful presentation with the dessert for my friend, writing Happy Birthday on a slate and putting a candle in a strawberry. Beautiful! I will definitely return and send friends there as well."

"We went on Thursday of LI Restaurant Week and although we were 25 minutes late(due to traffic)they were very gracious and kept our table; the tapenade which was garlicky and hinted of truffle oil was excellent; bread was very good but a bit doughy; risotto lollipops were bland and needed more parmigiano and/or seasoning so I asked our waiter if he could drizzle some truffle oil over it and he gladly obliged. My husband's mussel cream soup and moules frites were both outstanding; presentation and quality of our chocolate and caramel desserts were superb; servings were generous and service was very professional and accommodating; our waiter knew both his menu and the wine list quite well. Good wine selection too."

"Service was warm, knowledgable and attentive. Menu selections were varied and well thought out. Food was prepared extremely well except where they over induldged in the Truffel oil. We had the beef carpaccio appetizer and the spring chicken entree, both suffered from the excessive truffel oil but were perfectly prepared. The Pork Belly was moist, delicious and had an extremely crispy skin, that made this dish... would order this again. Desserts were very good, especially the creme caramel which was worth the price of addmission."

"Wonderful place for dinner. Service is attentive but not overbearing. Food is inventive but respectful to ingredients. Nice that they use local produce that is in season. Place can get alittle noisy but we did go on a Saturday night . All in all a very enjoyable evening & would recommend highly. Will be back again soon myself."

"The decor was a little sparse.The table was too small as we kept moving dishes around so they wouldn't fall off the edge.The restaurant only had two other couples at the time (6:00 pm) so the host could have sat us at a bigger table. It was our 1st time there so we didn't want to make waves:-)The crusty french rolls were delicious w/different spreads/dips.The wine list had a good selection and the pricing was good.The Bay Shore oysters were delicious and very fresh. We shared a mixed winter salad which was decent. I had the duck which was cooked perfectly (not to fond of the cabbage rolls that were served with it). My wife had the butter poached lobster with house made noodles which was excellent.The waiter forgot to bring our dessert."

"I LOVED IT! What a great surprise. Loved the charcuterie and fromage! I could LIVE on that. The bread was AMAZING (could I get the recipe?). Loved the brioche that came with the meats and cheeses too! I went with a friend and we shared a bunch of stuff. We got the charcuterie and fromage (5), lardon salad (mmm... anything with a runny egg gets my vote!), the Soupe de Moules (heavenly), and the Butter Poached Lobster. I think our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. We were full after the charcuterie and cheese! Next time I will order a little less so I have room for dessert! Loved the decor and the atmosphere. I was very impressed with the service too. Loved our french waiter."

"The food was fantastic. Very classic dishes with very unique twists; everything was familiar but different. Reasonably priced, and well worth the money. Make a reservation, as when we walked in there were a few groups waiting to sit. That said, we were running late (about 15 minutes) for our reservation, called and informed the restaurant of this. They thanked me, and when we arrived our table was held and we sat immediately. Very attentive and positive staff. Will absolutely be returning."

"Our server was fantastic! I wish I knew his name because I would like to have him everytime we go and we did go back 4 days later (the server on next visit not as knowledgeable). It is a bit pricey but worth it! We went there for our daughter's 30th birthday and they did a lovely "Happy Birthday" on a slate - and no singing!!! perfect!"

"From the drinks at the bar, to dessert, the food and service were very good. The food was interesting and delicious. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. The risotto lollipops and short ribs were flavorful. For dessert, the Creme Caramel was a bit too sugary, usually carmel is smooth and creamy. I would like to see more French wine on the menu, but appreciate the nod to the local LI wineries. I would recommend this place to friends who are looking for flavor found in Manhattan, without having to make the trip."

"Food was excellent though the entrées a bit pricey. My husband & I both ordered the squab, which was a special. I thought that at $39 for a small pigeon was a bit over the top. The desserts were to die for. Will definitely try it again"

"Went to roots for the 1 time for cocktails on a Sunday evening. The drinks are whimsicle & carefully crafted. After enjoying drinks at Roots I wanted to give the entire experience a try. So I made reservations for the Valentines day pairing dinner. The atmosphere is cozy with a perfect bistro flare. The food....incredible! The oysters were the best I've ever had! It's obvious everything is prepared with true passion, while respecting the ingredients in each dish. I'm looking forward to returning to Roots very soon."

"I took my girlfriend here for Valentine's Day dinner on the 15th. It was packed and we had to sit at a bar table which is slightly elevated, but we were sitting right in front of their musician for the night that they have Fridays and Saturdays from 7-10. She was great and played the guitar while she sang. The food was very good. We split the duck and the short ribs. The steak tartare was our appetizer which is very good if you are a bit adventurous as we are (yes that is raw meat :) ) They have very good martinis and the truffle that they give you with the receipt is the best I have ever had and is home made at the restaurant. I highly recommend this for a date but bring $150 if you want a drink or two."

"Upon arriving for our reservation we were told there would be a table ready in a few moments which turned out to be 25 minutes later. The bar area is the only place to wait and is extremely crowded on the night we were there. They do not have a coat check, so we had to be crammed into the bar area trying to juggle holding our coats and the glass of wine we ordered while we waited. After several attempts to check if our table was available the hostess finally and reluctantly gave my party of 2 a table for 4. The waitress was friendly but not very knowledgeable about the unusual menu. We ordered mussels as an appetizer to share and were very disappointed when they arrived full of sand that we had to send them back and forgo the appetizer."

"We sat at a table in the bar. There was a band playing but it was not too loud and was a nice variety of music. Food choices were delicious: risotto lolipops, butter poached lobster and braised short ribs were well prepared and presented. When we ordered glasses of wine, they were out of the cabernais sauvignon we asked for and since there was only one other cab available at $2 more per glass, I felt they should have offered it at the same price as the one we had asked for and not charged the difference. Nice decor, very cosmopolitan feel yet comfortable."

"we had an 830 reservation which i called and asked if we could change till 9pm..they said no problem as a matter fact that we were the last six person table and that was better....by 1010 we had to sit in the bar area. they ran out of vodka and other liquor , bread and mussels. The waiter was knowledgeable but very busy and slightly overwhelmed. On the other hand, they did gave us a round of drinks and the food was presented amazingly and tasted even better. I believe that they got popular very quickly and that perhaps they werent ready for the influx of people. They have to better their reservation situation and be able to keep up with both liquor and food needs. BTW the cheese selection was amazing...."

"First timing dining here was a disappointment. As you walk in, you are in the bar area and there is also a 5 piece band playing. The bar area was over crowded and the band was too large for the space and VERY LOUD. We were seated immediately but the loudness of the band made it impossible to hold a conversation and hear the waiter speak to us. It was so crowded that two people from the bar areas were literally hanging over my chair and shouting to over come the music. While the food was good, it was truly the worst dining experience."

"We had a reservation and to wait about 15 minutes, which was not a problem. However there is no place to wait. The bar was crowded with people eating dinner, no place to reach over and get a drink while waiting and there is no coat check. So, we just stood awkwardly between diners at tables and diners seated at the bar. Good thin the wait was short.

"Our waiter was outstanding! He knew the menu inside and out, was attentive, never made us feel rushed, and had a great sense of humor. We ordered a table full of appetizers before placing our dinner order and we were able to enjoy our meal at a leisurely pace. With that said, I am not a fan of French food. Probably not the best person to critique the meal, but I am basing this review on reactions of the people at the table who selected the restaurant, and who do like French food...the pork belly gave my brother "the chills." The foie gras melted in their mouths, the braised short ribs were delicious and tender, the duck was perfect. Our table of five tried almost everything on the menu and it was all creatively and perfectly prepared."
