"Chef Thurston and his team are extarordinary! From the moment we walked into the restaurant, we knew were among greatness. The entire staff was professional and the picture perfect food was as delicious as it looked. Everything was presented with style and class. After reading a number of articles and reviews about Stars!, it was well worth the trip to experience it for myself. Do yourself a favor and leave room for the milk and cookies!"

"We went to Stars for Mothers Day and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Highly recommend drinks on the rooftop before dinner! The food was outstanding, wine was excellent, and the service was unmatched. I am picky about service and thought the service was amazing - the staff was attentive, knowledgeable, intelligent, and genuine. Looking forward to a return visit."

"Best meal I have had in Charleston!! Expensive, but well worth the cost. The Oysters Bull's Bay were succulent and cooked to perfection. I had the kale salad which was very well done. The Lobster & Grits is now my favorite entree in town~!! This was close to a 2 lb lobster and the meat was easily accesible without much mess. My husband was overwhelmed by the tenderness of the filet, and raved about the fried and smashed potatoes. The restaurant serves wine on tap, which is a fun and unique feature. Our waiter was exceptional as well. Definitely a place to see and be seen, and we are so glad we tried it!!"

"My husband took me to Stars to celebrate my birthday and we had a wonderful evening. We opted for two appetizers - the Mini BLT's and Oysters Bull's Bay - and they both were sinfully delicious. The bacon on the BLT's was the best I've ever had. For our entrees, my husband had the Atlantic Trout, while I selected the Ocean Harvest. There was not a shred of food left on our plates. At some point, my husband told our server that it was my birthday, so out he came with a special birthday dessert: Pluff Mud Pie. If you love chocolate, do not pass this up! The best part? The caramel toffee they fold into the mousse. Outstanding! We had a wonderful time, we will be back again."

"Great food and excellent service but....we asked for a special table to celebrate our son's graduation (party of ten) and we got the long table facing the open kitchen. All nine sat facing the cooks. Instead of being able to talk and celebrate we got to watch the cooks. Not a pretty sight! This place may be great but that table should be eliminated."

"Took my wife to celebrate being newlyweds. Received complitary champagne upon arrival.Ordered Ahi tuna,frog legs,and dessert-all was very Excellent. Waiter was very knowledgeable about menu items and the wine list. Overall a great experience and I look forward to going back."

"Come to Charleston to vacation 3x/year. First time at Stars and I was very impressed. A little loud like other reviewers said, but not too bad. We were in back of restaurant and was better than up at bar area. Had the whole grilled trout and it was the best trout I have ever had. The open, hot grille must do the trick. Phillip, our waiter, was excellent, service was great. We enjoyed this meal as much as Husk, Macintosh on this trip. Not a slight to the others, just putting the comparison for review. Roof top looked fun, weather did not permit on this visit."

"This new restaurant did not disappoint! On a beautiful non-rainy day, the rooftop bar is a fun atmosphere. The dining experience in the restaurant was far more enjoyable than other restaurants because we could actually talk to our friends and hear what they were saying. The large semi-circular booths created an intimate setting. Mushroom bruschetta and oyster appetizers were fabulous, as were the main entrees...the restaurant's specialties: whole trout, and lobster and grits. To top off the delicious meal was the chocolate ganache pudding....oh my....fabulous!"

"We first went to Stars 4/13/13. Food - incredible, and the menu so inventive that we returned 4/20/13 to sample other dishes. One appetizer we will always repeat - the mini-burgers. They look & taste like Kobe beef. They are juicy (ask for an extra napkin; you will need it!)The condiments meld deliciously into the beef, and the sea salted roll is perfect. The grilled tuna is not only sashimi grade, but had absolutely NO connective lines. The salmon was superb, as was the Stars steak. Save room for dessert because they are just as good. This is the only restaurant in Charleston which is superb from app. to dessert. It is a "grill house", so the noise level will increase at high times, but we had no trouble in conversation. Service A+++."

"I didn't go up to the rooftop but saw lots of very dolled-up women heading up there who were clearly not from this decidedly Bohemian part of the city.....so it must be a good place to hang and be seen.
I went there for dinner and the food was very good. What sounded like a relatively standard greens salad was bursting with different, very strong flavors....fennel, dill, maybe even ramps....excellent! The wood seared tuna was cooked perfectly but was a little on the small side for the price.
The dining room is very dark with dark wood paneling on the walls and wood floors. It looks more like an old-timey Texas steakhouse(most of those were even more lighted) and is a real disconnect with the food and service - which was very good."

"The place was overrun with frat boys and sorority girls. Wait staff had a hard time taking care of tables because the dining room was far over capacity and so loud they had to shout to be heard. Not the atmosphere I'm looking for when spending over $100 on dinner. I won't be back."

"We enjoyed our first visit to Stars. The staff on the rooftop was very friendly and the ambiance is great - just pick a table where the smoke from the wood stoves isn't blowing directly on you. The tap wine doesn't really work for me as I like to explore new wines that I can find elsewhere or buy myself, but there are lots of great cocktails and a good beer selection, so not a problem and they could be delicious. It would be handy to have a small bar menu to entice people to hang out and spend money.
The food was very good, and the staff and owner fixed a minor glitch in our order and made us feel very appreciated. This is a great option for the upper King area and we'll be back."

"The rooftop bar was the best part of our experience. Although over-priced, the atmosphere on the roof was peaceful. We had the crab soup which was good but too salty for my taste. We also had the "house" steak which had good flavor but was tough. Overall, I would come back to Stars for drinks on the roof but skip the rest."

"A new restaurant in Charleston that we decided to try for a special occassion. Arrived early so checked out the rooftop bar, which was spacious and lively. The main level restaurant atmosphere was relaxed and masculine. Service was top notch. Wine list was acceptable, but could be improved. The food was very well done and overall enjoyed the full experience, and will go back."

"My family and I were staying at the Sanctuary in Kiawah Island. One of the bartenders recommended us to eat at Stars. We were all very impressed! I got the truffled chicken pot pie which was delicious! I also ordered their mini BLTs which everyone loved! What i was most impressed with was the service you get. They cater to any of your needs and are very knowledgable. The Chef at Stars was also a Chef at the Ocean Club until he decided to start Stars. I would go back to this restaurant anytime. Stars also has a rooftop bar and lounge area. Great place for cocktails with friends!"

"My wife and I had a highly enjoyable dining experience at Stars. My Filet-Mignon was outstanding (along with the sauces) as were the potatoes and grilled Brussel Sprout leaves. Each bite resulted in a burst of flavor. My wife had Baked Chicken and greens which she loved. We could not stop commenting on our food throughout the meal.
I've had the opportunity to eat at many fine restaurants in Charleston, and Stars ranks among the top 3."

"Love this place! The trout is the best I have ever had so highly recommend. Nice wine list as well without being overwhelmed. Arrive in time for a drink on the Rooftop to enjoy the views of Charleston. I lived in Charleston for (8) years until a few months ago and the city has some amazing restaurants. Stars should be added to everyone's preferred list for clients, visitors and special occasions."

"Went out with my wife and another couple. We all had a great time. Two of us had the trout, which was incredible. The scallops were perfectly seared and the smoked whole chicken was excellent. Dessert was delicious and our server was very attentive, although being on the small side, she had a very hard time reaching across the table to attend to two of us."

"Loved the wine bar for starters. About 10 different wines on tap. Bartender was nice and friendly. Good mix of ages for diners. Good section of town away from tourist trap area. Food was excellent. "A buddy and I chose Stars after seeing a positive review as one of Charleston's new restaurants. He and I both are fairly big foodies. WOW the food was AMAZING, best meal I have had in a very long time. Service was top shelf ! Mark one of the managers for the night was VERY ATTENTIVE and proactive alongside our server. Just a great experience from the rooftop bar to the dinning room. Plan on returning again...and again !"

"Very noisy, dozens of college kids waiting to use elevator, or waiting in line to use stairs to upstairs bar, pretty much right in the dining area; very annoying and distracting. Bad decor in fake palms, no artwork, stairs to roof should be at front entrance so as not to disturb diners. You have great food and we had a great waiter, but the atmosphere was more of a college bar. You should decide if you want to be a fine restaurant or a college bar."
