Orta Restaurant
Named for a lake in the Piedmont region of Italy, Orta was founded by Chef Jimmy Burke and wife, Joanie Wilson. In 2012 the restaurant was bought by Chef Brett Williams and his wife, Cara, who will run the front of the house. Take a moment to come join us in our spacious dining room, grab a drink at the pizza bar, and watch the chefs preparing your meal in our open kitchen. It is our goal to create a family atmosphere for our guests to enjoy a delicious authentic Italian meal.

"the lobster cakes were filled with fillers, hardly any lobster at all, very dry. The mussels were so puny, can't believe they serve such bad quality mussels specially for the price they charge. the half- roasted chicken was swimming in this ugly concoction of mushroom risotto. will never, ever go there again and will tell friends and family never to go there."

"We celebrate Father's Day at Orta. They have wonderful service, excellent food, and cozy atmosphere. The owner and waitresses are all friendly and helpful. We were surprised by a special dish from the owner to help celebrate the occasion. You can't beat that extra care, service and attention given to their customers. We will certainly go back again, and bring some more friends over."

"We used to go fairly often so went with friends. Appetizers were excellent: mussels and beet salad. Wine was good but no one came back to pour it. Main courses were totally split: my husband and I had the salmon which was excellent, while our friends had the swordfish which was overcooked and mediocre according to them. The dessert was good- a chocolate one.
I'd recommend ordering fish rare (which I always do) if selecting fish. Will probably go back."

"This was our first time at Orta and we didn't know what to expect...we took another couple and we all were pleasantly surprised. When you pull in it looks like a small place in a strip mall but once inside it is spacious and the decor is comforting. The food was delicous and cooked to our liking. One tried the special ribeye, one tried the fish and the girls had the steak on the menu and we had no leftovers. They give you the right portions too, no to small or over the top servings. The guys left full. We didn't have room for dessert but we will be going back again...soon."

"If you want to wait for a table, and the host tells you it will be a 30 minute wait. You wait...and wait...and wait 75 minutes.
The host will then tell you a party at table ? has been here for 2 hours, and it will be at least another 30 minutes.

"Went here 6/4/13 for my birthday dinner and I was not disappointed . Had a wonderful drink called a caravella followed by wonderful appetizers and dinner. Salmon and hanger steak were both top quality. Friendly waitress who was very efficient. Will definitely return for special occasion again."

"We came early for the basics--pizza and pasta. Mussels as a starter were excellent, as were two different salads. Service was attentive, but we waited a while for our pizzas--they said we were behind a large takeout order . . . hmmm . . . But we will definitely return to try other things."

"Went to Orta to celebrate birthdays of a couple of friends. The service was excellent and Jan, our waitress didn't rush us. The salmon (fresh caught!) was delicious. The tiramisu was light and creamy but too heavily doused in liquor. Look forward to my next awesome dining experience at Orta."

"This is the third time I have been to Orta and I have always enjoyed the food. The service is excellent. The wine list is very good, though not extensive. The menu is also not extensive, but everything on it is good. An impressive thing about the restaurant was that they accommodated my mother, who is lactose intolerant.
The noise level in this restaurant is very loud, which is really the only detractor from the experience.
I highly recommend it."

"The food and service was good, not great. We plan to try the restaurant again, but will order something different. I wasn't too fond of the soft doughy spaghetti or the sauce, but that's just me. We liked the look and feel of the restaurant and the service was quick. The only issue was that the waiter never returned after the food was served to see if we needed anything else or to offer another drink when my glass was empty. I'm one of those people that doesn't expect to have to track down the waiter, he should be checking in with us after the food is served to see how things are.
We plan to return for another meal, and hope to find that perfect dish that will keep us going there."

"After enjoying a great dinner at ORTA with friends on a weekday night, I was eager to go back with my husband and some other friends. I wish we had gone elsewhere. It was SO loud, we struggled to have a conversation of any duration. The cocktails were fine and the salad okay, but the pizza was utterly devoid of taste and took forever to be delivered to the table. I was so disappointed and my husband will probably never go back and one of the friends said she and her husband have definitely crossed it off their list after trying it a few times. Really a shame...."

"My husband and i received a gift card for Christmas to Orta. We held on to it to use it for our anniversary. OMG!!! The food was outstanding!!! This was the BEST meal i have had out in a long time. Everything was perfect. We order 3 apps. all perfectly prepared. I had the hanger steak, my husband a cod special, both were to die for. We took home dessert because we were so full, but it did make the 45 min. ride home, it looked to good to let sit there, and it was. Will go back very soon."

"We had a great private table for 4 and the pace of the meal was excellent all the dinners were outstanding. We had Salmon,Veal,Hanger Steak and Braise Short Ribs they were all served piping hot after everyone had time to finish their salad.
Most places don't get the pace correct (especially on a SAT Night)they serve the salad and the entree shows up 2 minutes later or they let the entree sit and it's barely warm when served.
We even hung out at the bar after dinner to listen to the live acoustic music."

"Appetizers at Orta are made to be shared-excellent Fried Eggplant and Caesar Salad! Braised Beef Short Ribs nicely presented surrounded by house gnocchi and topped with the thinnest crispy potatoes which gave the dish just the right amount of crunch. Others enjoyed over-sized portions of Half Roasted Natural Chicken and the Panko Crusted Chicken a/k/a Chicken Parmiagiana. "We enjoy the atmosphere, but it was extremely noisy on Saturday evening. My husband would like to see more fish choices and I would like more pasta dishes on the menu. And, as senior citizens, the wood chairs are a little harsh on the "tush". Otherwise, the service is great. (What happened to the $5.00 glass of house red wine?)"

"It was a great night with friends. The others @ the table raved about their meals. My swordfish was fine but OVER cooked. Our server was wonderful and never rushed us. Later that evening my husband thought he had left his glasses behind. they went over and above looking for them and calling us back. I'm impressed!"

"We have been fans of Brett and Cara for years. The are warm wonderful people who have found their calling.
This is truly a success story of two people who met in the business, share a love for what they do and were driven to achieve their dream of owning their own restaurant. His food is fabulous, she is the hostess with the mostess. They have always been the restauranteurs that take the time to get to know their patrons and that is how we've become friends and followers of theirs. You feel like a friend joining them for dinner at their family table.
Great menu, great wine list, food for all, well trained staff, lovely decor. Try the short ribs!"

"Yummy food. Small place- tables are tiny, cramped and it's loud in there - between the diners, the open kitchen and music being piped in over all of it. We lucked out with a table along the wall but diners seated at tables in the middle were definitely dealing with waitstaff constantly squeezing by. Average wine list, average service. Way too loud to beckon waitstaff if you needed something or for intimate conversation. I'd give it a second try for the great food but likely only on a weeknight. Decor is rustic and cute- as long as you don't mind a more boisterous scene."

"Hostess was very pleasant along with the wait staff being attentive. Food was fabulous, I had the almond encrusted salmon and my husband the panko chicken. We sat near the bar area and the three piece band started playing at 9:00pm, music was energetic but not overwhelming. Great evening, will go back again soon"

"My first time at Orta. Unfortunately, my last time as well. I was looking forward to checking this place out. I ordered the veal w/ mashed potatoes gravy,asparagus. It wasn't very good. We ordered a bottle of spring water. This brand I had before at other restaurants and it tasted crisp, clean, best spring water on earth! Our bottle @ Orta was not cold, it was room temperature and tasted like Pembroke tap water. The desert was ok. I had the chocolate creme brulee and it was skimpy. This review may sound harsh, but trust me, I was being polite. I hate giving bad reviews. I gave a fantastic review back in February for a different restaurant."
