In December of 2009, chef-owner Robert Ubhaus opened Rob's Bistro, a French Bistro located in the heart of downtown Madison. Rob's Bistro uses fresh local ingredients to create our dishes; including Seared Fresh Foie Gras, Cheese & Charcuterie Platter, Moules Frites, Duck Confit, Day Boat Scallops, Mousse au Chocolat & Creme Brulee. In addition to our brunch, lunch & dinner services, we also offer on and off premise catering for any event, including holiday parties, cocktail receptions, showers, rehearsals & weddings.
"Rob's is a pretty solid representation of a NYC/French bistro/brasserie a la Balthazar in Madison, NJ! The escargots come in the welled dish as opposed to shells which is easier and all the better to sop up the delicious garlic/parsley butter deliciousness. Foie Gras was serviceable and the beet salad is fresh and tasty. The mussels entree was the weakest item we had--just not enough flavor...just mussels in a bland broth. However, my Cote de Boeuf was a decent rib-eye in a fantastic red wine Bearnaise sauce. The chicken was also perfectly cooked. The Pommes Frites are a signature bistro item and do not disappoint. To have such a high end foodie type restaurant with such low prices locally makes Rob's Bistro the deal of the century."

"The food was passable but one entree of 4 was served cold as were 2 cafes aux laits. Servers were poorly coordinated and showed no interest. Maybe an off night but too pricy for the quality and the experience."

"We dined at Rob's Bistro with a party of four on a Saturday night and loved the food. We had to push our dinner reservation back by an hour because the Final Four NCAA game went longer than we expected and the hostess was extremely nice and accomodating. Make sure you try the cheese and charcuterie plate - especially the Italian truffle cheese. My husband ordered the special for the night - the prime rib - and it was hands down the best prime rib anyone in our party had ever had. Kudos! The restaurant was full and lively when we arrived at 8:30 p.m. and I liked the atmosphere. I've been there on a weekday and it seemed a bit too quiet then. We also ordered the steak frites and the mussels - both were excellent. Will go back again!"

"We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food-interesting and delicious. Though we had been to the next door restaurant run by the same chef-which was outstanding, we had not visited Rob's Bistro. Looking forward to another dinner out-soon."

"Thoroughly enjoyed Rob's--ordered a wonderfully cooked steak frites. Other diners ordered roast chicken and steak frites as well. They now serve wine, in both half and full bottles. Definitely the best option in Madison for a nice meal that isn't too expensive. We'll be back."

"Country French done right. When it come to foie gras Rob always gets it right. A given choice for my wife every visit. The Plats Du Jour are all excellent. OK. OK I have never had the calves liver from Rob's because I have eaten enough of it to know I just don't like it. However, I venture his is an excellent calves liver, if you like calves liver. Specials are always creative and exceptionally well prepared. Their underlying sauces and stock are apparently made in the true French manner because they add a subtle texture to everything on the menu. The ambiance is Bistro. Nothing fancy just appropriately functional. My only complaint is the stemless wine glasses. Drinking your wine,a BYOB, from a tumbler just seems wrong."

"Others at my table enjoyed their dinners more than I liked mine, which is why I'm giving it 3 stars. If I had to rank it based on my meal, I would give it 1 star. I ordered the Cassoulet and a lot of the white beans were undercooked and it came out luke warm and cooled down very quickly on the cold plate."

"The day we had lunch there, one woman was acting as hostess and wait person. I think there should have been additional help hired for the lunch service."
