"Our dining experience at Anson was great! The food and service were both excellent. It is definitely a romantic spot, although it did get a bit more vibrant later in the evening. We were there for our anniversary and so was the couple next to us. There were also two proposals while we were there. Overall, a great experience!"

"She crab soup was outstanding. Steak cooked exactly as I ordered. Had the lobster with it but did not realize the lobster was going to be breaded and fried. Have been watching every calorie for 85 days and I would not have ordered it had I known it was fried. Granddaughters were with me and they also thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Calamarie was good. Overall was very pleased but would have made a change in order."

"I ordered crispy flounder which I've heard Anson's is known for. Fish looked wonderful but was covered in a sweet sauce. Overpowered the flavor of the fish. Also ordered scallops, they were good, cooked perfect. An ok meal, but overpriced."

"We had a wonderful dinner at Anson which was recommended by a tour guide as well as some websites. We had she-crab soup, crispy flounder and key lime pie and all were delicious. Service was just right - attentive but not overbearing. The ambience was also great; white table cloths, classy but not ostentatious. We'd recommend Anson to others and would return if we return to Charleston."

"We had a four-person business dinner at Anson. A location was requested so we could talk, and we received a very nice table. Everyone's food was very good, and the server was also very good - knowledgeable and personable. The out-of-town guests really liked the restaurant and the dinner, and it was a great first impresionn of nthe Charleston food scene for them. "The flounder, which was the house specialty, was mushy, not flaky as I expect with fish. The sauce on the fish was good, but the bad texture of the fish was off-putting. Also, the fish had not been boned and it was difficult trying to avoid getting bones in my mouth. I ordered a side of roast potatoes and they were also disappointing. It was as though they had been cooked some time back and had been left sitting for a while. The restaurant had been recommended by a good friend who has lived in Charleston for many years so I expected a much better result. Since I had brought a visitor to Charleston to Anson, I had hoped for a much better experience. I may give the restaurant another chance, but I certainly will not order the house specialty!"

"The restaurant accommodated a group of 40 - 50 people that showed up at 5 pm WITHOUT reservations. Their obvious motivation was GREED. That caused them to not be able to honor reservations on time and even worse was that they sold out of all signature dishes. My wife ordered dinner 3 times. Each time the waiter returned with a menu in hand and told her "Sorry, we ran out of _____." We discussed the issue with the manager and couldn't have cared less. We will never return to Anson."

"While visiting on a spur of the moment trip to Charleston we were lucky to get a reservation anywhere. The Jasmine House recommended Ansons and we were able to get in on a very busy Friday night. We were seated on time at a romantic table for 2; our server, Adam,was excellent giving us time to flow through our dinner without being pushed. During dinner a huge thunderstorm hit and all the guests were stuck inside until it passed; we were taken care of quickly by James as we all flooded his bar area as the next seating of customers were waiting for tables but no one was leaving. All of the staff was really helping out to take care of the "log jam" that lasted at least an hour...Great job to all and their efforts; it could have been a mess."

"This was our second dining experience at Anson. We were seated on the second floor which was quieter than the first floor. We started with the remarkable Pimento Cheese appetizer, a must! The She Crab Soup was outstanding and among the very best we had in Charleston. I ordered the crispy flounder and it was absolutely amazing. I would return just for this entree! But the topper of dinner was the Banana Pie for dessert.

"WEll, Anson's did not really live up to our expectations. The ambiance was outstanding; I just wish the food had matched it. I had the fried shrimp and oysters. The oysters were plump and well done; the shrimp, not so much. My wife had the seared scallops and they were good but too salty. Our server was very good, very quick to bring our drinks and food. Actually, the best thing we had were the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. We will try it again, but it will be a while before we go back. There are better places, or else we just ordered the wrong thing."

"We had the fried okra, she crab soup (with sherry), crispy whole flounder and creme brulee.
The fried okra was delicious and plentiful for an appetizer.
The she crab soup came in a small cup but rightfully so as it was creamy and rich. Definitely a must have.

The crispy flounder came "a la carte" as the whole fish (minus the head). It came with a slightly sweet sauce that paired well with the flounder. This was a hefty portion of delicious fish.
The creme brulee was excellent and well-portioned (we split between 2 people).
Service was good with our server being both quick and knowledgeable. We are planning to return on future trips to Charleston."

"Wobbly table was a bit of a turn off but no big deal. Chicken pate~ app was outstanding but okra app was tasteless and did nothing for us. Clams were very nice but oysters that had bread crumbs in the shell and the jalapeno mignonette were not good. First time we ever sent back oysters. Overall we really like the restaurant and would return on our next trip to Charleston. Service was great and our server was very knowledgeable."
