East Coast Grill brings high level big, bold flavors with live fire grilled seafood and Low n' Slow BBQ in a fun casual atmosphere. Highlighted by its open kitchen, full raw bar and funky décor; it is a corner stone of the Greater Boston dinner for over 25 years!! The theory here is that the closer one gets to the equator, the more flavor there is in the food. Expect the chile-fueled heat of the Caribbean, the grill-savvy of Latin American cuisine, and the dynamism of Asia when you order from the regionally inspired menu. Bloody Mary brunch. North Carolina-style pulled pork or the spice-rubbed mahi mahi with pineapple s
"This was our second visit to East Coast Grill and it didn't disappoint. The oysters are so fresh and delicious, I'd be happy making a meal out of them! The ingredients are fresh and delicious. Being a pastry chef, I'm pretty picky about desserts. The banana chocolate bread pudding was fantastic! This has become one of our favorite places."

"This is a delightful, comfortable place full of happy people. The service is friendly and efficient and all of the staff greet you warmly. My mango avocado gazpacho was superb - I would definitely order it again, and my husband's big barbecue was delicious and enough for three meals. I had the scallop special - tender and tasteful with a just sweet enough sauce. We will definitely go back."

"Parents were in town from across the country. They wanted seafood. Forget the tourist traps in Boston, East Coast Grill is a great spot! We had a very enjoyable dinner. I love that they now take reservations. My only suggestion would be to serve the crab legs already split or provide scissors. The shells on snow crab legs are very pliable and hard to get open with a "nut cracker"."

"Took a few business clients out for a casual dinner, and thei fit the bill nicely. Very good drink/beer selections, and the seafood was spot-on. It did get a little noisy, enough to make a conversation difficult, but we enjoyed the experience overall. One comment- they added an 18% tip on the bill for a party of 5, so be careful and check!"

"We love nothing better than to pop in to the ECG any given night when cooking at home doesn't sound like fun. Awesome service and bar staff. Great drinks. If you are looking for some heat - check out the He** Bones. Great Q and great fish. Love the tuna tacos, the gazpacho, which is often a special, excellent, succulent shrimp and Island Creek oysters at the raw bar, and my personal favorite - the snow crab legs. IT's ALL good here! :)"

"Still a good place for hot, hot, hot food - but our last visit had several slipups. I thought my "Martini from H**l" was hotter than my last visit, until I drank 1/2 and found it was the pepper vodka floating on top of the gin. How do you forget to mix a martini? My wife's noodle dish was oversalted. We requested Lava Room seating, which used to be a special extra Tiki experience. Now it's just a cramped corridor with the same bland Western music that's blaring throughout the rest of the restaurant. We _were_ comped a ticket for a free appetizer...which looked like a recycled coupon?!? Is all this from the change in ownership?"

"Food was quite good and sufficiently varied choices available. Long list of a la carte sides is a plus. Staff was very helpful. Setting is unpretentious, informal and fits in the active neighborhood scene. The biggest downside is the very loud noise: the open kitchen in the middle of the dining space has a constant din of clanging pots and dishes and this forces the diner conversations to get louder and louder...so not at all conducive to quiet conversation."

"We had a reservation but got seated at a really bad table--tight location and very noisy (right near the bar and the path that all the servers had to take to bring food to the restaurant beyond us). Food was delicious--three of us had the barbecue trio platter and I had the grilled mahi-mahi. But we weren't inclined to linger over our meal due to the noise level, and skipped desert and coffee which we might otherwise have ordered."

"After hearing a great deal of hype regarding this place, I was extremely disappointed. The service was inept, the food overcooked and the the presenation awful. The highlight of the evening was the ease of parking. Mediocre in every respect. Outback quality food at top price."

"We know East Coast Grill for its wonderful, spicy food for lunch and dinner. Sunday brunch was a pleasant surprise. The restaurant takes reservations for brunch, so you don't necessarily get hit with a long wait. French toast, eggs, terrific spicy sides of sausage, bacon steak and stuffed banana were all outstanding. Coffee was notably good."

"I'd been wanting to try East Coast Grill ever since I read an article about it in the NY Times. As a transplanted Southerner, I also was craving good BBQ. When I walked in and smelled the fantastic aroma, I already was in heaven. I got the trio BBQ platter of pulled pork, brisket and dry-rub ribs. Pulled pork was not 100% authentic but still very good. Brisket was very tender and sauce was great. Saved the ribs to take home and haven't had a chance to try them yet. Baked beans were awesome, as was the cornbread (which I just had for breakfast). They also had an interesting and reasonable wine list. My only complaint was that the amount of food for the price seemed a little low."

"Dined here with friends and yet again had great meals. The oysters were fabulous, as was the special mango margarita. The tuna was great, and the other meals were great as well. Will come back again."

"We had a great time there celebrating my boyfriend's birthday! We started out with the oyster special from the raw bar and they were amazing! Everything else was delicious too...we had a great time! Not a complaint but when I called the day before to confirm our reservation, they asked me if we were coming for a special occasion and I did say it was my boyfriend's birthday. Thought it was strange they would ask and then not do anything about it when we were there...not that we expected anything, but I just thought it was funny of them to ask."

"I've eaten at ECG a million times since I moved to Boston. I always love this place and enjoy bringing new people there. The beer selections are good, the large margaritas are a good value and the oysters are great. My favorite dishes include the mussel appetizer (order the grilled garlic bread with it!), the garlicky greens and the plantains with guava ketchup. I recently got a snow crab meal that was divine and a much better value than what I've found at waterfront spots! I also enjoyed a blue fish entree last year. Otherwise, I usually make the meal out of a bunch of small bites so I can enjoy several flavors. When I was last there, I saw several tables with the big bbq rib meals - I may have to go that way next time. ENJOY!"

"We had a fun blast. After being shut out 3 times, we got smart and booked conveniently and easily through Open Table. The group came in gradually, which was no problem for the restaurant. We then enjoyed great banter with a knowledgable intelligent server who could recommend the specials and the specialties. All in all it was great, healthy and delicious food."

"Although they did not have our Open Table reservation (stated system should have shut off after they opened), after speaking to manager, our parking was comped and we received free drinks. Food was outstanding as was the atmosphere! Service was okay but not fabulous. The restaurant felt like we were part of the hip scene of Cambridge MA with oustanding food. I highly recommend!"

"Glad we made a reservation through Open Table - there was a line outside waiting for the start of Sunday Brunch. An unconventional menu with a few spins on standard offerings - one of our group enjoyed the french toast, with seasonal guava jam on the side. The rest of us appreciated excellent fish dishes - the black&blue tuna tacos were fresh and well-balanced, and the catfish reuben was good quality with a nice blend of flavors and textures. The grilled corn on the cob was a fun starter for the four of us to share. The only disappointment was a side of fried plantains that was a bit bland, and slightly undercooked. Service was excellent, even though busy. Our waiter describing many of the dishes we will have to go back to try."

"Sadly, not the same as it used to be. Some delightfully prepared dishes; other not. Ribs were tough, very hard to eat and, regrettably, digest. Fish was remarkably good. Ambiance lacked since change in ownership, although new owners are trying very hard to create a wonderful experience."

"Granted it was Valentine's Day but they were out of a lot of things on the menu, it took our waitress 20+ minutes to take our drinks order after sitting down and then we were left for long periods of time without water. The couple next to us were seated 10 minutes after us, had 3 courses and finished before we did due to our poor service."

"The food was fantastic. The grilled veggies on my plate could have been more plentiful. The waitress was attentive to our needs. The noise was a real disappointment and maybe off-putting for seniors (like me). There is an open kitchen so one hears all the pans clanging on top of the other diners."

"Restaurant was crowded and it took a long time to get our food. I actually think that the waiter forgot about our food, because when we finally got it, it was cold. Although the food was tasty, it was ruined by being cold. The waiter was not apologetic and did not seem too concerned when we mentioned it to him.
The restaurant was loud and difficult to hear others in our party."
