The Broadmoor Bistro is a student-run skills application by the students at Broadmoor Technical Center in Shawnee Mission School District.
The Broadmoor Bistro has been in operation since fall of 2000 offering an evening dining event created and served by culinary arts students enrolled at Broadmoor Technical Center. Broadmoor Technical Center, located at 6701 W. 83rd Street, Overland Park, Kansas offers culinary arts and commercial baking instruction to students enrolled in Shawnee Mission School District high schools. Students create menus, cook, serve and run the Broadmoor Bistro.
The Bistro is a 2008 constructed 3,000 square foot addition to the Broadmoor Technical Center. A bakery, kitchen and classroom with auditorium seating and a full culinary display kitchen, about 4,700 sqft, were remodeled in 2007.

"The food at Broadmoor Bistro is always outstanding, and with the guest chef on 3/16, the bar was raised to soaring heights. It was a foodie's dream. However... We did not expect to be there for over 3 hours. The time between courses is normally very slow, which is expected and understandable in an educational setting like this. But when there are 6 courses with a special event like the one on 3/16, the lag time between courses results in a dinner that is way too lengthy. It can be difficult to maintain table conversation for 3 hours, and by 9 pm people on a Tuesday people are generally tired and ready to go home."

"A classy sandbox where experimental castles are conjured under the watchful eye of experienced wizards. Confident young practitioners of the craft are brought forward ready to stir-on some magic at every level. The kitchen facilities are an embarrassment of riches, where amdist shining alembic and glowing ingredient, a future alchemy to our local benefit is forming with energy and vision. At once adorable and ponderous, this is a place to see, taste, and be welcomed at its gracious table. And don't forget to tip the nice kids!"

"What makes this place so interesting is that the food is prepared and served by high school students studying the culinary arts -- and it is delicious! The plates are beautifully presented and the menu items are creative and tasty. Due to the fact that the Bistro is inside a school building, you will not be able to have cocktails or wine with your dinner, but that wasn't a problem for our family. We went on Tapas Night so each of us were able to order 5 different menu items. We especially liked the stuffed Peppadew Peppers and the steak and chicken tacos. Our server was great and he even gave us a tour of the kitchen and classroom!"

"Having the menu change to Tapas was a surprise...notice would have been nice. Server was very pleasant but not as attentive as she could have been. Server(s) were unaware what item they were bringing to the table...no explanation of items. Would have been nice to know how tapas would be presented. Ran out of items and portion sizes were so varied...difficult to share. Love Broadmoor Bistro and would love to come again but this visit wasn't up to par."

"We thoroughly enjoyed this student run restaurant at the Broadmoor Center. The food was delicious and the students are experiencing a real world business. It would be great for everyone to get a chance to eat a meal here to see what a wonderful opportunity this is for students in their school district."

"We are so very fortunate to have such an amazing program that turns out such excellent students, many who go on to a career in the culinary arts.
The dining room and kitchen are both beautiful . The food always excels, whether it be a student run dinner or one of the various guest chefs who come in to work w/ the students. This dinner was Chef Debbie Gold from the American and it was amazing as usual."

"We sat at a table of ten and the service was right on target. All orders were correct. The primed rib was the best in town! Servers were gracious, friendly, and shared good information about each dish. The Bistro is such a special place and I have enjoyed watching it prosper since the first year it opened. Bob Brassard is a gem!"
