"Five members of my family enjoyed dinner at Metropole for the first time last Saturday evening. The atmosphere is fun...felt like we were eating in a New York City restaurant. Service was good and prompt. We heard that there is a wonderful roof-top bar (we did not go up there) that is very popular. At the end of the meal we had fun discussing each item that we had ordered and "rating" the items.
Charcuteries were not very special...not sure I would order any of them again. The 7 hr. egg tasted like your typical hard boiled egg.
Loved Chaat salad and burnt carrot salad. The Greens salad and Quinoa were average

"I commented to my wife that this was the best service I had received in a while from a waiter. I believe his name was Dave. He was smart and knew the menu without being pushy. He was able to convince us to buy items we would not have thought of because of his knowledge and recommendations. He was very polite and made sure that we had a nice time. Everything was well done and the place is really cool. Even if you are not a big "art person", being able to walk around the hotel/museum after dinner was very cool. The rooftop patio is tough to get up to because it is so popular. We hope to get up there next time. Definitely recommend!"

"We have eaten at some of the best restaurants around the world but can say that this may be the best meal we've ever had. The cocktails were delicious and accompanied by the yummy bread and smoked butter. We had the octopus starter which was better than any octopus we've had- even in Portugal and Spain. Next we had the burnt carrot salad- like nothing I've ever had before and delicous! Dinner was the juiciest most flavorful duck breast we've tasted and the scallops which were delicious! For dessert we had the chocolate tart and a glass of 20-yr porto. Great service. A bit loud but not in a bad way. We also took our 10-month old daughter and they were very sweet and accommodating with her. Highly recommend!"

"We were seated at the end, near the server's station at a two-top. I could never quite get my feet situated comfortably with the large table base at my feet. We felt like we were dining with the couple at the next table. The waiter stood at the end of our table when discussing the menu with our neighboring diners. The noise level was loud and we were at the noisiest corner of the restaurant; evidently my request for a quiet table had been ignored, or spitefully undermined for dramatic effect. The portions were small, as expected, but the split portions of the ravioli entree were absurdly small. We were each served 3 small flat ravioli. Even served as a full dinner, 6 ravioli would barely qualify as an appetizer, let alone an entree."

"went to celebrate my birthday. we were seated so we could people watch. open kitchen concept is nice to see . Decent Cocktails the Donkey was strong on ginger. I recommend the orange blossom. We split octopus appetizer, which was small but tasty. Bison burger was fine, too bready, the soft shell crab was served w/green peppers. caramel ice cream was creamy. I was disappointed that the penguin didn't visit our table - it sat for nearly an hour at a table just north of us. That would have been fun. Our server didn't tell us about the just opened roof-top bar, too bad, we could have given more business to the 21C group.

"Smoked grapes, something special. Smoked butter, yes. Chicken excellent, from the open-hearth fireplace, I think. Charcuterie very good, with a rhubarb sauce, and 7-hour egg (good, but not so very different from a 10-minute egg). Chaat (Indian origin?, with chickpeas, caulifower, potatos, etc. ) really interesting , subtle. And yes, the bison burger is good too. Service good but falls short of relaxed.
Heavy-breathing locavoracious, but a menu at the ninety-something percentile.

"My wife and I decided to try the 21c restaurant based upon our positive past experiences at the Louisville 21c restaurant. My wife made a Saturday dinner reservation and, independently, I made a Friday lunch reservation. When I told her, she accepted my lunch invitation and met me at the restaurant on Friday. Our server took our initial order; his next appearance was when our check was presented. During our lunch, others on the wait staff cared for us. We ordered the bison burger, which we were told is a signature item. The burger looked like my child prepared it and was practically inedible. Due to the amount of added salt, the fries were inedible. The dinner reservation was canceled."

"When a new "hip" spot opens, it usually means small portions and indifferent service. This is not the case at 21c. The food was interesting without being obtuse, the service was informative and cordial. We felt that the signature smoke cooking technique was a bit overdone, especially with the bread service. Portions were ample and the presentation was crisp and appropriate.

"My wife and I had dined at the 21c restaurant in Louisville, so while staying in Cincinnati, we decided to give the local version a try. We were seated per our request promptly. The waiter was very well informed and engaged in a pleasant way -- the beverage manager stopped by later as well to discuss our meal. We started with cocktails and charcuterie, both of which were excellent. The charcuterie menu allows you to build your own choices. We split a lovely burnt carrot salad next. I had duck for the main and my wife had a fish special. We paired it all with a nice red wine from the extensive list. Finally, dessert of ice cream and goat cheese cake. The ice cream was a bit too frozen for the only weak spot of the night. Give it a try!"

"Our evening began on the roof deck. Amazing. Next, we went to dine. Our seat in the dining room was as fabulous as our server/service. The wine recommended by the server paired perfectly with what we ordered. The foie gras was amazing, and while the dinner (duck and soft shell crab) was yummy, we both felt that both dishes were cooler than we liked (the duck itself was a good temperature). The asparagus salad was cold...as we believe it was meant to be...but we would have preferred it closer to room temp. Both of us spent lots of time eating seafood on the east coast, so the soft shell crab was a bit of a let down. That said, our overall experience, including the chocolate dessert, was positive and nice."

"My boyfriend and I chose 21 C for our 7 year anniversary, and we couldn't of chosen a better place. The service was great and our food was some of the best we've had in a while. The drink selection was outstanding, especially the crafted draft beers. The museum was an experience and the roof top bar was gorgeous. My fiancé actually proposed to me on the roof! I couldn't of asked for a better experience on such a special night!"

"We were entertaining friends from Spain, who have entertained us there. They were impressed with the restoration of a 100 year old building. But it was noisy (not crowded). Everything on the menu is "roasted over an open fire" including the grapes. So if you like charred black chicken, you should go. The bill was over $350. The museum is great. Like my husband says, some people try too hard to be different."

"I have a few food allergies but I still want to eat great food. At Metropole I was able to get grilled octopus, chaat, and seared duck breast without dairy or wheat. They were incredible. My husband had steak and salad which he said were also amazing. This restaurant has the sophistication and quality of a major city but the warmth and welcoming qualities of a Cincinnati restaurant. Truly a great experience and an asset to our growing food scene."

"The ambience and stuff to see at 21c are as advertised. So many interesting things to look at in the restaurant and the hotel lobby. Service was very good when we were there. I do think its food is overpriced, though. About $30 is the average of entrees. Portions were large enough, but I essentially had roasted chicken. My date had a seafood dish. The shrimp still had eyes attached, which may be the kind of thing you're looking for when you come here, but she did not appreciate it.
Cocktails were pretty good. If we come back, it may be just for drinks and people watching."

"went to metropole for a friend's anniversary dinner. I was under the impression that the restaurant cooked everything on a wood fireplace. I did not see or taste anything remotely fire-esque, which was slightly disappointing. the atmosphere, location, and tables were perfect. our food was nice but slightly under seasoned. the dessert was delicious,a dense chocolate torte with candied olives. we shared several small items. if I had to pick a favorite it would be the ricotta dumplings for it's pea puree. our friends faired better going with entrees. the portions were generous and they both loved their seafood stew and steak dishes. the service was excellent . we liked our waiter and he described the items well. I would go back ❤❤❤"

"This is our second time to eat here and were not disappointed. Food is delicious. The beet small plate was great as was the burnt carrot salad. The bulgur entree was too minty and not as good as I hoped. Still service was great and atmosphere terrific. After dinner drinks on the sky terrace is recommended."

"Metropole at 21C is a must-try! I've been to 21C in Louisville many times & LOVE it! Great, unique atmosphere. Barbara was our waitress & she was EXCELLENT! She knew the menu & wine list extensively, very friendly & went out of her way to wait on us. Food was different, very good, but not the best I've had. Appetizer was a bit bland & wouldn't get it again. The only thing I didn't care for at all was the two top tables on the sides of the room. There's only about a foot in-between you & the next couple, so I felt it was a little too close for comfort. Some couples seemed to enjoy that as they got to know their dining neighbors, but for a romantic dinner, I would prefer a more private table. Otherwise, go check it out!"

"My husband and I dined here for our anniversary. The menu almost scared us off but I'm so glad we decided to keep our reservation. The method in which they cook their food (via hearth) gives all of their dishes a unique taste which I have not found to be duplicated at any other restaurant downtown. Dining here was an experience, not just a meal. We will definitely go back!"

"Nice atmosphere and interesting dishes. Some creative choices on the menu (quinoa fritters, burnt carrot salad) and a handful of craft beers on draft. Overall, good food but was not really blown away with anything. My wife thought the food was a bit salty and said she wouldn't be in a rush to come back. Overall, enjoyable food and ambience. I'd recommend to try it once and see what you think. Not majorly disappointed, but would not enthusiastically recommend."

"Our first time at Metropole and we challenged them with a post graduation/Mother's Day group of 7 at 6:30 pm on a Sunday. Overall we had a great meal with excellent service. We were dissapointed to hear they ran out of the special at 6:30 PM and also scratched a favorite dessert; but they comped our table two bowls of ice cream and lifted spirits all around. We will return for the food and the service, if not the atmosphere."

"We've been to the Metropole three times. Each time the food is very good, the service is below average for a restaurant of this caliber, it is terribly slow, and the cost is not justified by the food or service.
It's a really cool place, and a great location.

"I've been looking forward to visiting Metropole at 21c for some time now. Service was nice. Food was OK. I felt the menu was unique for the sake of being unique - almost trying too hard. It could be that in the museum setting, uniqueness is the point. We're locals and we'll recommend Metropole, it just won't be the "go-to" place for us downtown."

"We were really excited to try Metropole, having had a great time at their sister restaurant in Louisville. I think they are still figuring themselves out. The food capitalizes on their wood oven (smoked grapes, smoked butter, roasted radishes), but as a result can be a little one-note. The service, however, seemed amateurish. Our server, Barbara, was a seasoned pro, but around her were a lot of young staff with little sense of decorum. The bartender was in the weeds, servers dropped two glasses and handled the cleanup awkwardly, and towards the end of our meal they began replacing the feet on several tables right in front of us, while we were still eating, as though we weren't even there. Not very classy. Give it time then give them a shot."

"We visited Metropole on a Friday night. We all really liked our appetizers and the drink selection was great. My wife wasn't sure which wine to pair with her entree order so the waiter allowed her sample three different wines before she made a final decision. This was a nice touch. Of our party of four, two ordered the pork chop, one ordered a bone-in fish, and I ordered the bison burger. I was impressed that bison burger was perfectly prepared; medium rare and moist. However, the sandwich was so thick that I couldn't hold it it together to eat and had to disassemble the sandwich to eat it. That was somewhat disappointing. My wife ordered the pork chop and was disappointed . The desserts were good, but didn't make up for the so-so entrees."

"Wonderful meal for our first visit to this great new restaurant. Service was great, server took time to explain several of the choices and steered us to things we truly enjoyed. "Went to Metropole for B-day dinner with adult kids. As others have noted it is a ittle noisy. Good wine list (they had my favorite Sancerre). The Charcuterie was great, tasty, a good share dish for the table. The salads (burnt carrot and their greens) were really wonderful. The Diver scallop was enjoyed by my husband. I had the chicken and it was great. The peas with ricotta cheese could have been improved with a little more spices and I don't think the vegetarian in our group liked the pretty tasteless vegetarian entree which didn't have much broth but was billed as a stewish kind of thing. What I liked the most about it was that the food was interesting... A good special dinner for people who like to try new things."
