"My girlfriend and I try to have a special date night every once in a while and my aunt suggested we try The First Printer. The service was outstanding, the drink menu intriguing, the food amazing. We had a great night and will definitely return. Two thumbs up!"

"Our second trip to First Printer and I ordered exactly the same thing- mixed green salad (pesto dressing is a nice touch to a simple salad) and Zarzuela - a seafood stew with a rich tomato base. I love this dish - lots of seafood with potatoes, sweet potatoes and okra. My date had the jambalaya and fried oysters - also great!
Cool private room on the side if you're having a private party.
Not sure why this place isn't busier and hope they're around a while! Check it out when you're in Harvard Square!"

"Waiter disappeared after taking our order. Someone else delivered it and no one checked back to see if we had gotten what we ordered. We had not. Food on plate was messy, so-so quality and over-priced."

"Creative menu and excellent cocktails in Harvard Square. Good night out, but not a relaxed, gourmet evening. Music was a bit too loud, but the Periodista was superb!"

"First Printer had a great, interesting cocktail selection, a really cool vibe, and excellent service. We will definitely return! Because it is not on one of the main roads of Harvard Square, it doesn't get great foot traffic and we don't want this gem to disappear. Food was delicious and reasonably priced as well (watch out for the price on the specials though), with a few outside the box offers. Everything about this place was great. If you enjoy a nice cocktail, I would highly recommend this place."

"Various members of our family have been to this restaurant several times, for lunch, after work drinks and dinner. We recently celebrated our son's birthday there, which was a party of six. The waiter was quite knowledgeable about wine and the halibut special with baby turnips was terrific! My husband had the lobster with johnnycakes, which he also liked. Steak was as ordered, medium-rare. The best part was that the waiter brought out a previously-ordered small, but rich and delicious chocolate birthday cake. It was a perfect size for us all to share."

"This was a quick decision on Open Table's suggestion since when I looked at the menu, I saw one-dollar oysters so I booked a reservations. This turned out to be such a great experience with the ambiance as well as the oysters and the rest of the food. Strongly recommended."

"We went to brunch hoping for some good food and a fairly quiet atmosphere. However, they had a jazz band that was playing that was so loud my friend and I had to yell at each other across the table. The food was also not terribly good. We got lobster rolls that were very overcooked. I hear the bar scene is good though, so maybe thats where it shines."

"I read a lot of mixed reviews for First Printer and after having taken my family there for a Mother's Day brunch, I get it. The ambience of the place is really very moderate, much unlike how their website makes it look. There was a live band which is great in some ways but for a crowded brunch? My family had to yell to hear each other and eventually just gave up. Did not sign up for that. The waiter never told us about the specials or asked if we wanted desserts, he just handed us the bill. As for the food itself? Go somewhere else, nothing special at all."

"I had read plenty of negative reviews and I am happy to report we had a wonderful experience. We ended up arriving 15 minutes late due to traffic and our booth was held, with the hostess and waitress very welcoming. The drinks and food were great. We were impressed with the layout and the 4 piece jazz band played great standards and were very energetic. If I had one critique it would be that the band should turn down the amplifier's a notch or two as they should compliment the setting, not override it.
That said, I look forward to returning to First Printer and try them for either lunch or dinner."

"First Printer is definitely one of the best places in Harvard Square. We are obsessed with the Sunday jazz brunch! The black and blue (berries) parfait is so simple but really delicious, refreshing, and surprisingly filling. My fiancé had the bourbon fresh toast the first time we tried the brunch and he swears it is he best he has ever had and will not order anything else. We have also had lunch and dinner there quite a few times and you just can't go wrong! Everything is good, the cocktails are delicious, the staff is very friendly, the owner is visible and hands-on, and it is overall just a lovely little place that we will continue to enjoy!"

"Accommodated our request to sit at a table in the former bank vault and prepped a specially plated dessert for our birthday guest. (Only downside to sitting in the vault is that it gets warm before long.)
As usual, good dinner and cocktail selections, with the scallops as a creamy highlight."

"Took a date here the other night. Food was great, but it took us almost two and a half hours just to get a meal and pay our check. It's a good thing the date went well, otherwise it would've been a very long night."

"A well-varied, moderately eclectic menu in a well-decorated (with printing accoutrements, 'course) venue, this is an albeit loud addition to the Harvard Square scene. Good cocktails, also. Live jazz somewhat mostly somewhere around nine-ish (they came on at 9:45 the night we were there....)"

"We decided to eat out on Easter rather than following the family tradition of cooking at home. Brunch and music at First Printer were awesome. We had a great meal and enjoyed the entertainment. What made it especially fun was all the other folks there having as good a time as we were."

"I have definitely enjoyed watching First Printers develop into a Harvard Square institution. The fare is American Regional comfort food with a light, artisinal twist -- right down to their fried chicken with waffles (be forewarned: bring an appetite for that dish; it is yummy, but it fills you up quite quickly). If you enjoy cocktails and quality libations, First Printer readily goes toe-to-toe with its more established neighbors -- I've not had a chance to belly up at the bar, but my sense is that First Printer is a little more committed to offering a selection that respect spirit-making and bartending as little sips of art."

"I made reservations at First Printer because I'm a former newspaper journalist, love history, and was on a weekend visit to the Harvard Square area. Before making my decision, I read numerous online reviews, most either very good or very bad, with the latter often noting "terrible" service. I decided to find out for myself and was not at all disappointed. In fact, I considered First Printer an excellent choice. Their mixed drink menu was fun and potent, the meals were not sensational but were very satisfying, the prices were reasonable for the location, and the host and wait staff were exceedingly pleasant and responsive. My date and I enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and left with not a single complaint."

"The Caeser's salad I ordered looked like something I could make. The leaves were uncut and the anchovies looked like small sardines. It could've been better presented and the salad better tasting.
The calamari I ordered was greasy and breading was kind of falling apart. It was soggy and didn't taste very well either. I think it was because some peppers were fried with it and so it came out soggy and falling apart. It was overall not a good meal."

"It was pretty disappointing....listed on a harvard square restaurant website with gluten free options, it didn't meet expectations.
To be fair, prior to going for dinner, I stopped in at early afternoon to look at the menu in the entrance and saw Indian dishes as well as scallops both of which seemed like likely candidates. They ran out of scallops by our 5:30 pm reservation (Sunday). My expectation of gluten free options is that you manage to cook a sauce without thickening it with flour and having some control over the ingredients. After being offered a grilled piece of chicken or a steak without the sauces, I settled on a side salad and went home for dinner.
My nephews enjoyed the flat bread pizza & the fried chicken w/ waf"

"The high ceilings and surface on the walls and floors makes for a very conductive atmosphere, so it is difficult to hear your dining partner. The waiter for the booths near the bar was incredibly helpful and nice, but also very slow. The bar tender was nice, but not attentive. Overall, I had a pleasant dining experience, but would have liked the service to have been sharper."

"Food was great, service was excellent. A really nice restaurant with a great atmosphere. I would go back and bring friends. A good place to bring out of town bests. Menu was a little limited and heavy on the seafood, especially shellfish, but what we ordered was very tasty. We didn't leave hungry."

"I think they are very new. Maybe I'll try again in a few months. Service wasn't very good but the food was ok. Would like a little history written some where or have the servers have knowledge of the building. Again I think it's new but it will be a while before I return"

"The menu was interesting -- our choice were a lovely monkfish and a decadent Fried Chicken over waffles. One complaint: when we came in we asked for a quiet table, and we did get one as far from the bar scene as the room had. But, later we found another room in a vault that had many empty tables. (However, the room we were if was no noiser than at many other first-rate restaurants). Its not hard to imagine going back"
