At Sauce, we serve what we like to call "Social Cuisine" - American comfort fare so good you'll want everyone at the table to try a bite. It's shared food without the tiny plates. Come sample Chef Ben's creations along with wine or hand crafted cocktails in our new location. Enjoy outdoor patio dining, or grab a table inside. We welcome parties of all sizes, come experience what happens when Comfort Food meets California Cuisine — it could be our Tomato Bisque with white truffle grilled cheese sticks; Portobello mushroom fries; or our signature applewood-smoked-bacon wrapped meatloaf, something is sure to tickle your fancy . Stop by for lunch during the week or dinner any night between 5pm and 2am and see for yourself; what's cooking, we guarantee the kitchen until 1:30am every night.
"Outside of the fact the service was lackluster, the restaurant lived up to the other reviews about the food. we had the sausage rolls and the grilled shrimp and both had hanger steaks. the steak wasn't the best - tough to chew but i guess that's a hanger steak? The server did not know the wines on the menu, which was a shame. She couldn't say whether the Zinfandel or Cab would be better. Gave the usual - well if you're having chicken you should have white wine (which is really old school) and when asked for recommendations replied, "do you eat meat?""

"At the end of the evening, I was accused of picking perfect weather AND a perfect dining location for my group! The deviled eggs with bacon, Portobello Mushroom Fries and Dungeness Crab Wontons are all wonderful bites of food. All in all, a great place to have a meal outdoors in SF."

"My table had a number of the social plates cause they looked so yummy. The chicken pot pies were a little overdone & dry but thank god for the gravy that really helped. Loved the little mini meatloafs wrapped in bacon on mashed potatos, the crab ragoons & the mac & cheese. The portebello fries were alright but I feel like they needed to be a little more breaded. It was a hot SF day (surprisingly) so sitting outside was really the key and we enjoyed ourselves :)"

"I have been coming to Belden since it had one beer joint with peanuts on the floors and a bunch of roll up steel doors. This is a fun place, informal but nice. We had a great time at the bar then dinner for 8. We were laughing and talking for three hours. The hostess was extremely nice and made everyone feel at home. I live in the City and work two blocks from this place and would definitely book a large table again.
Be sure to tell your guests this is the one next to the B of A Building!
There are two restaurants by this name in SF."

"We went early so this place could be louder..looks like the bar could get going. Great food! Perfect service...friendly, slightly familiar but not overly so. Menu isn't extensive but everything we tried was really good. Great location- feels like you found a secret spot!"

"Overall, the experience was good. Nothing note-worthy, not great food...but overall good. Good happy hour spot...cant remember if there were good happy hour prices but the bartender was attentive so I would recommend this place for after work drinks with friends and co-workers."

"We had 2 dinner reservations for the Friday and Saturday nights. Sauce and Spruce in Pacific heights . even though Spruce has a higher Zagat rating, we had a better meal and could have saved $200 if we had come back a second night"

"I decided to try this place out with a friend who was visiting from out of town. The ambiance was nice and I love the location of Belden Lane. I found the food to be just OK though. I tried the mini chicken pot pies, poutine, brussel sprout salad, and flourless chocolate cake. The pot pies lacked exceptional flavor, seemed liked something I could get out of a box at Trader Joe's. The poutine was soggy. The brussel sprout salad was too sweet if you can imagine. And the flourless chocolate cake dish was good, but nothing special compared to some knock out chocolate desserts I've had at other competing restaurants."

"We went as a group to celebrate March Birthdays. There were 7 of us. We all had something different. Hamburger, butterfish, chicken breast, pulled pork. One of my friends tried the mini pot pies as well as the macoroni and cheese. We all enjoyed our food. It was great having both a salad and fries that was included with the meal. Most of us shared the food. We wanted to do a taste test. The butter fish was so moist and a good portion We would go again and the wait staff was on point."

"I went with four colleagues to celebrate a birthday. The food was fun and tasty, but the server was surly and borderline rude. I saw her at other tables, and observed that she wasn't exhibiting the same unfriendliness to them. I'm not sure what her problem was, but her attitude problem was observed by my colleagues at the lunch as well. Bad service ruins a meal, no matter how delicious. Bummer too, because I'm a fan of the Hayes Valley location and work right across the street from Belden."

"I had a business lunch there yesterday. The restaurant decor is beautiful, the menu is very limited, the portions tragically small, and our waiter was unable to understand when to remove plates and when to leave us alone.
I would not go back for food but I would try it for a drink"

"I have been to the Gough St. location of Sauce and just loved it. My recent visit to the Belden location was a bit disappointing. The lobster bisque had an unpleasant taste (I like "briny", but this was kind of odd and metallic) and the piece of lobster in the bowl was rubbery. One of the employees recited the daily salad special and we ordered it, but his description - spinach, bacon, blue cheese, vinaigrette - was missing several ingredients (it also had nuts, dried cranberries and a poached egg on top). Although different than expected, it was good, but it would have been nice if the server had been more informed."

"Sauce is opened until 2am! They have a wonderful Butter fish. They also have a great Portabella mushroom fries and tomato bisque to die for! The bowl was huge and seemed to be bottomless, yet, it was so good, I didn't realize that I had finished it all! They also make their own whiskey, its strong, but good nonetheless."

"Belden Place is like a small slice of Europe in the middle of downtown San Francisco. The outdoor seating concept works great for these restaurants. I have tried most of the restaurants on Belden Place and went to Sauce: Belden for Valentines Day. Frankly, I was a little concerned that there was so much availability that night and we were the only ones at the restaurant when we showed up at 6:30. However, the service was great and the food was quite good. I had the Butterfish which was delicious as was the beet salad."

"The food was awesome! Everything was delicious, I want to go back and try the whole menu! The bartender makes great drinks; so in this small place it got really loud. Service was attentive but not hovering."

"Kevin is the best waiter in San Francisco! The butterfish is amazing - don't miss it. If you love deviled eggs but never order them in a restaurant, Sauce's version will change your mind. They also make nice accommodations for gluten-free diners with crispy, fresh lettuce cups filled with heavenly salad instead of a bun. The price point for lunch is well worth it for the quality of the food and speedy, professional service."

"With so many great restaurants in this city, I am not sure why Sauce is that popular that it has two locations. I found the food to be mediocre and the menu a yawn. We came for the Dine About Town specials, but ended up ordering from the regular menu because we did not like what was being offered. Still, we were not at all impressed. The portion was also small and service was luke warm. Sorry. I rarely write harsh review, but I am puzzled why this restaurant seems to be that popular."
