"We were welcomed warmly upon arrival and made to feel special. The service was excellent, and the ambience very relaxed. My partner loved the escargot as a starter. My spinach salad was creative and delicious. I had the Filet Neptune, which was a perfect medium rare. The lobster was perhaps a little chewy, but the Béarnaise sauce and garlic mashed potatoes were perfection. My partner's Seafood Spagettini was apparently delicious as well. We choose Ryan Duffy's for special occasions. This was an anniversary, and it didn't disappoint."

"On Apr 22/13 my wife and I , with friends from Ontario, ate at Ryan Duffys for the first time in years. It was a great experience and left our friends as well as ourselves complimenting the restaurant for days. On May 7/13, my wife and I celebrated my 66th birthday there and were again impressed with the food and the service. We had the same young lady as our server and again, were very impressed with her friendliness and cheerful demeanor. She helped make the whole experience better."

"We have dined at Ryan Duffys in the past and it has been a great experience however, that was not the case 2 nights ago. We were celebrating a life milestone and decided that a special dinner was in order. Our server was terrific but that's where it ended.We ordered Escargot as a starter $12.00 x 2.....they arrived only luke warm with no extra bread for dipping in the juice. We both ordered 6 oz filets to be done Pittsburgh ( to be charred on the outside but rare). Both arrived overone.Thank goodness the Caesar Salad was still as wonderful as we remembered ( made at tableside by our server).W.E WILL NOT BE BACK. At a cost of $160.00 before gratuity for two we felt let down. Our server took 2 drinks off our bill too little too late.:("

"I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and it was an excellent choice. Our reservation was for 7 pm and we showed up slightly early but were still seated instantly with an enthusiastic server at our table moments later to ask for our drinks. They had an excellent wine selection, my only criticism was that I would have preferred a wider selection of beer. Perhaps some local draft, or some unique imports. Our food came very quickly and was cooked to perfection. Quite possibly the best steak I've had in Halifax, if not ever. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and will definitely be coming here again."

"Had a great time, the service and selection was great.
It was a special occasion and we enjoyed. The food was a bit expensive for my taste. The steak tasted burnt because of the open fire cooking I guess (and I eat my steak rare). It took away from the taste of the aged meat. The Cesar salad at the table was a nice touch, but who puts Tabasco and Dijon mustard in the Cesar vinaigrette?!
However, I was really happy the middle of my steak was not cold since I eat it almost rare. The last time I was in Halifax I tried the other place that does dry aged and it was a turnoff to eat an expensive piece of meat that was cold in the middle."

"I grew up in Chicago where there are a lot of restaurants. The best restaurants I found there were not the 5 star, but the smaller, mom and pop type. I have had a lot of bad experiences with restaurants in Halifax - poor food quality, poor service, too pricey for what I ate, plus most of the time I can make it better at home. I found Ryan Duffy's exceptional in many areas. The ambiance...it was perfect...good music, not too crammed in, and the decor was not an assault on my eyeballs, tastefully done. Our server was very nice and knew her stuff! The food was very tasteful and well prepared!"

"I was largely disappointed by the evening at Ryan Duffy's. For the money spent I didn't not think it was a a great meal. It was good, not spectacular, and definitely below expectations for a restaurant that brands itself as a high end dining establishment. I found my steak was fatty and was charred and had that burnt taste on the outside. The lobster was grilled, rather than boiled or steamed and that really detracts from the taste.
The total for 2 people with tip came to $150 and I think I could get a better meal at The Keg for cheaper. I probably will not return as, for the price I could get a better meal elsewhere. The quality of the food and taste was far below expectations."

The service was somewhat slow and indifferent (i.e. we had to request a glass of water). We had ordered steak for our main meal as this is Ryan Duffy's "claim to fame". We both ordered medium rare and both steaks were medium (could even be argued medium-well). The filet mignon was grainy and tasteless, very unusual for this cut of meat. To be fair, the waitress did deduct a few dollars from the price of the filet; however she did not apologize for the meal, nor did she appear to care that it was not done as we had requested. "We went for our 27th anniversary and had a fabulous time. The server gave us space and time to relax and enjoy our drinks without pressuring us to order and get out the door. I enjoyed that, we were out for a night not just a meal. Everything was great and will go back again. The fireplace was fantastic on a cold night in Halifax. Loved it."

"My girlfriend ordered an 8oz steak rare. It was med-well done. She brought it to the attention of our server. He returned it to the kitchen. When he returned he informed her that due to the size of the steak, it could not be cooked as she requested. We accepted as it was but after a bite, she was not able to eat it. I shared my medium steak with her. When we received our bill she brought up the subject with the server and informed him that if the steak could not be cooked to my liking, I should have been informed and she should have had the opportunity to order something else. "My wife and I were splitting spinach salad as an appetizer and the server was nice enough to place the starter in two dishes for us. That was very thoughtful for not being requested. We had a martini and a large on tap beer with dinner and we were very encouraged with the happy hour prices. The entrees were very good and the service was excellent. The room had only a few couples so it was quiet with light easy listening music in the background. All in all it was a wonderful birthday dinner with my birthday on Jan.20 and my wife's on Jan.21st. We will surely return on the next special occasion."
