"Service was horrendous... Ordered 3 different items from the menu and specials only for the waiter to come back and tell us they were out of that item. A lot of flair and no substance. Experience was a let down."

"We ate at Pig and Prince last night with a group of friends. It was our second visit in three weeks; our first was not great so we thought we would give it a second try. The entrees were definitely better (on our first visit, the menu was changing for the season so there were no specials offered) with a few intriguing specials. The short rib ravioli were delicious as was the steak special. One fish entree was just plain "fishy" and a disappointment. Pig ear app was delicious and salad was nicely done. Unfortunately, even though we shared apps, had entrees and deserts, we were hungry by the time we got home! We are not huge eaters so this is unusual for us. Cool bar & wine selection but Montclair has many equally distinguished BYOs,"

"Beautiful space, but the food didn't live up to the hefty prices. Portions were tiny. I would only recommend this to friends looking for a cool bar scene."

"Though the portions are not big, the flavors are! The bread was pleasant and the olive oil was so fresh and flavorful. The pork meatball appetizer atop creamy polenta and a quail egg may sound like an unusual combination, but the different flavors melded together perfectly. The Peking duck main dish is not the usual Chinese-restaurant fare. Served over vegetables and spaetzle it was divine. As was the salmon. Opted not to have dessert, though they sounded really good. Despite the portion sizes and no dessert, left the restaurant sated."

"Open Table process was greet good I tried unsuccessfully to change reservation from 2 to 4. Finally resolved with a call to restaurant. I don't understand the hype. We eat out in Montclair & north Jersey area at least twice a week. We went to celebrate our anniversary with another couple. The food was good, not great. Decor was nice, noise was a bit much. The waiter (nice guy) was embarrassed by the 1hour delay for our main course. We never said anything to him but he clearly avoided us. The manager came by to apologize but offered nothing. The prices were not worth the poor service. We won't be going back."

"Terrific reception upon arrival. Delicious drinks, food was flavorful and delicious. The bar scene was crazy! Four deep at one point in the evening, can de distracting as the layout is open with integrated bar and dining areas. Can be a bit too loud!"

"I enjoyed everything about the restaurant except that there was too much salt used for seasoning. If less salt was used I think the experience would be great. I have traveled the world eating at hundreds of restaurants it seems in this area of America more salt is used. Great service and ambiance. You've got a good thing going."

"Overall experience was very good despite the noise (relic of tightly spaced tables and high ceilings). Food was very good - creative and nicely seasoned. Reasonably priced given quality and attention to detail. After delicious apps & entrees, dessert - we ordered "Take it in the Jar" - was disappointing. My only complaint was that we were seated next to high table where waitstaff were grabbing stuff behind our backs. Service was better than usual (friends had told us that service was typically slower) and water glasses were refilled frequently."

"The food was wonderful and the décor was very pleasant. It was a little noisy. I thought the menu was a little hard to follow, particularly the dessert menu. Everything we got was delicious, but I think the menus could be a little more user friendly."

"Food was good, but it didn't exceed expectations and for what we experienced, it was quite pricey: $160.00 dinner for two with tip. I can get a better meal for less at any number of other restaurants."

"Jersey needs more places like this; not in a strip mall with nice architecture and a bar with more than the normal big distributor offerings. Food is diverse and well prepared. Service efficient but restrained, I'm going back."

"Some wrong notes in every dish. The duck, duck, goose appetizer was hit, hit, miss. The foie gras creme brulee was an interesting idea that didn't work. The short rib ravioli was delicious, except for the rubbery ravioli. Same for the rice in the lobster risotto. The desserts in a jar were nothing special. Not bad, just not as impressive as I had hoped for. I'll be back, it's a great space, but not real soon."

"Best meal I've had in a long time. The tuna tartare with avocado mousse was incredible. I ordered the venison with collard greens - amazing! Perfectly rare with a delicious sear. This is my 4th or 5th time here - one of the best restaurants in Montclair, hands down."

"Food, service, and atmosphere were excellent. We had the endive salad and the octopus for starters, both were delicious and beautifully presented, and we both had the steak special. The grass-fed, hormone-free beef was delicious, cooked to the temperature requested, and was paired with a delicately flavored potato gratin, sautéed fennel and carrots. One thing that made the meal extra special is that our server let us taste a couple of different wines we were interested in before we chose which to order."

"My wife and I were very pleased with the whole experience at Pig & Prince. We read about it in NJMonthly and had to try it. We love Charcuterie and cheeses. Being made in house was a big seller to try something unique. The second selling point was the fact that it was an old train station.
Great experience, definitely make an Opentable reservation. We dont mind waiting but you WILL wait if you do not make a reservation in advance"

"It's a bit hidden in the old Lackawanna rail station, but once we found the entrance...wow. The service was friendly and helpful. The wine list was excellent. The food offerings were a good collection of creative bistro fare. The portion sizes were spot on -- more than an mouthful, but not excessive. We do not normally do dessert, but were tempted with salted caramel truffle ice cream -- which was obscenely good. Best of all -- within walking distance to the Wellmont Theater. This is now our pre-concert dining spot."

"Beautiful location (converted train station waiting room, but not loud), good service, and a dynamic bar (not common for Montclair). While most of our meals were good, they were very small portions for very high prices. Also, do NOT get the duck: dull as dishwasher."

"The food was outstanding, with some unusual combinations. Very meat centric, although the fish my wife had was delicious. The waiter was very informative, but did forget to fill the water glasses a few times. Not a big deal, but it wasn't that busy on a Wednesday evening. All in all a good experience. Save room for some killer desserts!"

"The restaurant is beautiful. It's dimly lit and the bar is very nice. Well made cocktails and great beer and wine selection at reasonable prices. Ecclectic menu so there's something for everyone. The cured meats were excellent. The duck for the main course wasn't very good as stated in previous reviews. The doughnot bread pudding with the ice cream was tasty. The service was very good but the waitstaff is inexperienced in some areas."

"We felt very welcome. As soon as we opened the door greeters were there to assist. Staff seemed competent and organized. Food was served quickly, but we did not feel rushed. Difficult to carry on a conversation because of the noice level, but hey, it was a train station with high ceilings and brick work."

"The restaurant was gorgeous and had a great energy and feel to it. The items on the menu sounded wonderful, but lacked taste. We ordered Mussels, Parsnip Puree, Esgargot and Bass Entree. The mussels were good, but the rest lacked in the taste department. The cheesecake was outstanding.
Was looking to be wowed...sorry."

The food was excellent, perfectly seasoned and prepared. Be sure to stay for dessert. We will definitely be back."
