"I have been intrigued by this space on Holly Street in Pasadena for years now. I once attended yoga classes in the de-consecrated chapel of this intriguing former church complex built in the late 19th century. It is now a quite charming restaurant specializing in middle eastern cuisine. On the night we visited the place was almost empty (4th of July weekend drew people elsewhere?) So we had the large, romantically lit patio practically to ourselves. (In deference to us old folks, the management changed the music from middle eastern dance vibe to Frank Sinatra, which we though was a sweet gesture.) The restaurant has a full bar as well as a good wine list, so we were speedily provided with generous cocktails. We ordered some stuffed grape leaves (good) and a hot appetizer of Lebanese sausages sauteed with onions, and tomatoes called Makonek that was delicious. My husband ordered chicken kabob, I had the lamb shank. My lamb was fork tender and my husband loved his juicy kabobs. Both entrees were served with sauteed vegetables and rice pilaf. Although I wouldn't call either dish adventurous , both were very good and unbeatable for the price. The entire tab (with cocktails) came to $65! I encourage anyone interested in good food served in a wonderful space for a reasonable price to run (don't walk) to the Eden Garden. My erstwhile yoga studio is currently being renovated as a banquet facility, which, when complete, would make a dreamy spot for a party or event."
