"Experience was just okay. Would not rush out to go there again. The lunch menu has limited choices. There was a foreign object (piece of a rolled up paper towel or napkin) in my salad and when I brought that to their attention they dealt with it in a very acceptable manner and apologized more than once. The food tasted okay but I wouldn't say it was delicious. Prices were on par for lunch for downtown Calgary. If I needed to dine on that block for logistic reasons, I would probably give them another try but would not rush to the restaurant as if it was a favorite."

"Had lunch at Downtownfood and was surprised by both the excellent service and the great food. At first I was disappointed by the slightly smaller menue size, but I suppose selection gave way to an excellent meal, as all of our meals were very good. The menu although small, does offer a wide enough selection that anyone could find a few things they would like. The only thing I'd like to see at Downtownfood would be an outdoor patio/rooftop patio!"

"I have frequented the restaurant several times in the past. The service has been inconsistent. On some occasions the service is exceptional and on others, average, or below average.
My guests for the last 2 visits were not satisfied with the portion sizes. They had commented that they were very small given the price.
Personally I enjoy the food and the restaurant, although I have to admit I find it a little on the pricey side. I was disappointed that my recent guests did not enjoy their experience."

"Love this restaurant. Darren, the chef and owner is an awesome guy and makes sure that everyone is happy. I have loved it every time that I've gone. I'm not normally a seafood person at all, but when they do it, I actually like it. Great appetizers, good choices. Menu changes often. Excellent! Can't wait to go back!"

"Having a class in the area, had lunch there for the first time as I am rarely on that side of town during this time. Made reservations noting a time restriction and was impressed. Not only were my guest and I seated right away, our server, took our drink orders returned quickly back for our orders. Our food arrived quite timely and was delectable. Despite all the busyiness around, we were able to visit and even shared a dessert returning to class with a moment to spare."

"Came here for YYCBurgerWeek and was pleasantly surprised to hear about the 25$ special which included soup/salad, the burger (with a side of fries and a smoothie), and dessert. What a steal! I'm not usually a fan of blue cheese but I polished off that house salad and couldn't get enough. Definitely one of my favourite restaurants in the city."

"Downtownfood was one of those dining nights that we wished could go on and on. We had the chef's menu and found each dish creative and tasty. Our goat cheese wontons over eggplant and the bacon, pear and apple salad were highlights of the starters. For the main courses, the ribeye was fantastic! The service was friendly and very helpful. We can't wait to visit again."

"I looked forward to trying out Downtown Food for a long time. Finally hosted a business meeting there. While I wasn't disappointed in the food taste sensations - excellent! - I was disappointed in the high cost for very small portions. We left hungry and my expense account was bombed. My husband wanted us to try it out in the evening but after my lunch experience we decided we'd go elsewhere."

"This restaurant is off the beaten track but so worth it. Aside from the fact that parking is free and easy after 6p (we often park almost right in front), the real star of the show is the food. It is simply AMAZING. I would put dtf's up against the main contenders (Rouge, Muse, Teatros, Centini's etc) and it would shine. Their menu is creative, well edited and just plain delicious.
If you have read this far, stop...make a reservation and go to Downtown Food as quick as humanly possible. Better yet, grab some friends, they will congratulate you for making such a good choice."

"We had a delicious meal. The restaurant was quite quiet for a Friday night. For the quality of the food I would think it would be more popular. I think it's a bit "undiscovered". However the service although very friendly and helpful was rough around the edges. Not a reason to not go back but not very professional. The decor is ok we switched tables from the first one we were seated because the bench was so much higher than the chair. Was weird."

"Wagyu beef board for 2 is simply incredibly. They sous vide 5 different cuts of Wagyu beef, including the cheek, and it is worth every penny and many more. As an avid eater-outer, I consider this to be the high water mark for steak within the city....better than Caesar's, Mercato, Model Milk or anywhere else that gets good reviews on their steak. A must do if you enjoy eating out in Calgary."

"My wife and I are in our seventies and would ordinarily not go to a place like Downtown Food, mostly because of price and our budget. But we had a gift certificate that caused us to go there. I think we will go again. The food and service were great. Three things: the chairs were a bit soft and low; the table was deep,(that is, we sat some apart, awkward for visiting across the table with the noise level); and three, we would prefer something quite and classical, or just quieter and more background in the way of music. I'm a jazz fan and player so I'm not upset by music that moves and is a little loud; but for lunch or dining, I personally prefer less beat and more gentle background music."

"We ate the Big Taste menu. Food was good, the combination of items worked well. We declined to do the wine pairings as we thought the prices were over the top. Their nod to those of us who are 'value' conscious was a 2 oz glass of wine. 2 ounces? That amount isn't worth pouring.
As in many restaurants in Calgary they failed on tea. I asked if the water had boiled, and was assured that even though it comes out of the coffee machine spout, it is boiling. Well, the tea was completely tepid. I've been told this before and should have known better and just declined. Come on folks, learn that water needs to be boiled. If you can't do it right, don't offer it!
Otherwise, a fine lunch. Friendly and energetic service, too."

"We had a special dinner night outing and it happened to be the first day of the big taste of Calgary so we were excited to be able to try downtown food. The atmosphere was great and the restaurant was very nice. I don't know if the communication with the servers weren't good or if they are just new..they were very slow.It took her half an hour to get our order, after ordering we were offered bread at the table and the butter was so hard that we could not even spread. We did not receive enough butte for our tale because it was a table of 8, and our server told us she needs to cut more butter....I thought things like this are prepared in advance.server was rude during our meal and I would not return to this restaurant or recommend to anyone"

"We ordered the Big Taste Lunch menu because it sounded good and thought it was the restaurant's best chance to impress us but sadly we were wrong.
Downtownfood really doesn't understand what the plural is. Duck Confit TacoS yet there was only 1 small taco. Good crunch, guacamole was yummy but sadly didn't taste the duck and the taco was bland. Also really bad presentation, on a small Japanese footed plate with no way to catch the runoff of juices which left us having to use our napkins to wipe the table. Pappadelle was pretty good, good heat, flavour. DonutS was a tasteless timbit and no orange flavour as promised. Too many other good places to try again. Felt like I paid $25 for an ok pasta and I left hungry."

"Went for Big Taste Lunch. Food was really good, The tacos to start were fantasitc, with a perfect amount of kick, I could have eaten a dish of the guacamole with a spoon. I had the papardelle, dining partners had the salad. I enjoyed the pasta, however there was nothing outstanding about it. The salad looked amazing and was original very much enjoyed. I would definately return to downtownfood and if my schedule allowed it, I would be going for the Big Taste Gourmet Dinner - 6 courses with wine for $85.
Special props to the staff/kitchen. One of our diners could not eat the dessert due to allergies, and the kitchen made up something delicious and special to meet her dietary requirements."
