"We had a group of 9. Constantly had to hunt down our waitress. Took long to take our order, even longer to get the food. Worst of all, 4 of us ordered a dish that comes w/onions (Bistec encebollado) and they tell us 30-40 minutes after we had placed the order that they didn't have onions! RIDICULOUS! They offered us peppers instead...2 people in our party told the waitress they were goin to the mini mart next door to get some. She ran after them telling them that someone had gone out to get onions! Meanwhile, the owner was sittin outside eating his meal. We got no acknowledgement or apology for the inconvenience. The only thing good was the bistec with onions, the rice & beans was not great. And then they said they ran out of flan to."

"The restaurant is small. Looked large on Phantom Gourmet. It took long to be seated even though we had reservations. The waitress was very nice but took too long to be served (we were starving) good thing we ordered appetizers to keep our hunger down a bit. The price for the meal I felt it was too pricey. I would go again when the weather is warmer to eat al fresco."

"If you are looking for typical Puertorican food, this is the place for you. I've been to a lot of Spanish restaurants and this is by far the real Spanish food. The alcapurias appetizers is a must and bacalaitos. The food was just delicious and it really takes you back home to the island. The place is smaller than I thought but with the music and food that's secondary."

"This was a real find. There was a glitch with the reservation, but it was taken care of promptly and we were seated. I am a fan of plaintains, so this was heaven. The special scallo appetize we had was particularly good. Reasonably priced and a very nice atmosphere. A nice outdoor seating area as well. We will be back."

"We had a very positive first visit to Vejigante recently. With all the great dining options in the South End, Vejigante is a refreshing option. The food was excellent, the drinks excellent, and the value for price paid, even better. The atmosphere was lively without being too loud. For a smallish dining room, we didn't feel crushed by fellow diners. Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and mostly attentive. We did have a reservation but still had to wait 20-25 minutes before we could be seated...not a great first impression but we quickly forgot about that after sipping on our drinks. Overall, definitely will be returning for the unique menu and good drinks."

"We went for a birthday dinner. We asked to be seated in the larger booth - were told it was for more than (our) three - shortly after we were seated at a table, two men were seated in the booth - felt that we should have been accommodated given the special occasion we were celebrating. The waiter was professional and kind. The food was just okay - I ordered the pork chops which was very overcooked and tough. We didn't bother to take our left-overs home, which is not a good sign.
Previous visits were much better ~ we are disappointed in our most recent experience."

"We really enjoyed our meal here. Got the steak chimichuri, the green plantain with the crab salad appetizer, the seafood piella and the lobster in the creole type sauce. They were all OUTSTANDING especially the lobster, which was a bargain for $23. our watiress could not have been better. I will be back."

"Loved the food! Aranitas are the best I've had ever! The service was very good and the mojitos were excellent! Loved the decor... My only suggestion would be to eliminate the TV sets... They do not go with the ambiance in the restaurant and are useless..."

"This is the second time I've been, and once more everything we were served was delectable. Plus Vejiganta is the ONLY place in Boston civilized enough to warm the milk if you ask for it with tea.
I'll be back many more times."

"Aside from the food and service being IMPECCIBLE (Thanks to our server Victor). The birthday song and celebration was an extra treat for everyone in the restaurant as the waiters came out in vejigante masks. One word: AMAZING!"

"Every single dish was amazing. The food is so flavorful and plentiful! This is great place for groups, couples and families. I have been here for a girl's night out, date night and most recently a big birthday dinner. Each time, I have been more impressed with the last. The drinks are dangerously delicious- everyone must try the Guava Mojito! All of the staff is amazing but if you have Alejandro- he is the best! :)"

"Great Puerto Rican food! Spent a week in San Juan last year, and this meal was as good as any I had there. Paella for two fed me and a friend at the restaurant and me for another meal. Plan to come back again."

"Overall experience was great. Seating is extremely limited and uncomfortable because you are basically sitting right on top of patrons there, but it is definetly worth it for the food. Enjoy"

"Great food, great atmoshpere, friendly staff, did I say great food? Everything we tried was delicious, a few appetizers to start with, some steak and seafood paella. That was amazing!Gets a little loud and I recommend making a reservation. Good wine list with reasonable price."

"This is a truly authentic Puerto Rican restaurant tucked away in Boston's South End. We dined on the last day of a Groupon, so the restaurant was extremely crowded. Thankfully I'd made reservations and we were seated right away. Our server was helpful in suggesting cocktails (the Sangria is delicious and potent) and explaining any menu items we didn't understand. The beef empanadas were slightly overcooked but still tasty. The seafood paella was to-die-for, and my pork chop was perfectly cooked. We were far too full for desert, but noted the couple next to us oohing over their chocolate cake. I will definitely come back to this restaurant anytime I am craving spanish comfort food!"

"Great dinner of 5 on a Sunday evening! The food surpassed my expectations, dinner tasted superb, from the appetizer platter to our main course. The only dish that perhaps I will need to revisit is the flan...
Overall the restaurant had a great atmosphere and pleasent staff, definitley will return."

"The food was outstanding. Lots of fun and SO P.R.! ;D I took a friend of mine there and he got all teary-eyed because he finally found a place like home. The Mofongo is spot on and the Asopao was perfect!! And you CAN'T pass up the Tres Leches ... it was amazing!"

"A welcomed addition to the South End restaurant scene. It is exciting to find an unpretentious food destination with no attitude, great food and excellent service. The portions are large and the prices are very reasonable. The interior feels welcoming and our server, Jesus, could not have been more helpful and was genuinely friendly. I had the Valencia paella and my partner chose a lobster dish with garlic sauce. We shared a large salad that included fresh, wonderful slices of avocados. The wine list is more than adequate and not expensive. We will return to this fun and friendly neighborhood restaurant."
