Perched at the top of Munjoy Hill in Portland’s East end, we are a chef-owned restaurant built on fresh market ingredients, friends, and family. Chef/owner David Iovino grew up in a family that valued coming together over food, and that tradition has carried forward as the foundation of Blue Spoon.
We have fun in the kitchen, but we also couldn’t be more serious about what we do. That’s why we get our goods from the very best: Black Kettle Farm, Laughingstock Farm, Stone Cipher Farm, Fishbowl Farm, Freedom Farm, Valley View Farm eggs and meats, Wee Bit Farm beef and pork, Lankin’s Gorges Cheeses, Woolever Farm lamb, and Rick Tibbet’s mushrooms.
"First time here, food was great. Service outstanding. The only draw back was it is very small, only about 10 tables. Had only one complaint which has nothing to do with the restaurant. We had 7:30 Res. and arrived on time. Would have been able to be seated right away except there were two woman sitting at a table who had finished and paid but just sat talking like they were on a park bench. I can understand if it was a large restaurant, but with 10 tables this was very rude. Had to sit at bar until another table left."

"Simple setting, attentive staff, creative menu, good wine list, consistently good quality food preparation. Our "standard" when we visit Portland. A true cafe in the European sense."

"The tapas served from 4:30-6pm was simply fantastic. We tried everything on the menu because we a group of 5 and we licked every plate clean. The flavors and presentation are top notch. The good service and reasonable prices, makes Blue Spoon our favorite restaurant in Portland, ME."

"This was our 3rd visit in 4 months and in a town known for excellent restaurants and innovative food preparation the Blue Spoon continues to impress. Superb small bites, great salads (large as well) and uniquely prepared entrees. Service is professional, the wait time between courses is exactly the right amount of time and the nice wine/microbrew beer list. We'll keep coming back!"

"Everything about the Blue Spoon was outstanding. The trout, in particular, was fantastic, as was every single drink. The service made already outstanding good even better. I'd go back to Portland just to eat at the Blue Spoon."

"Blue spoon was a great find. Its a small place that is very cozy and has an inviting feeling when you walk in. The food was great. Everything seemed so simple and fresh, yet each dish we tried had a nice little twist to make it a little adventurous. The service was great, our waiter was very friendly and seemed extremely knowledgeable about the ingredients and the preparation of the food. We will definitely be back."

"The Blue Spoon always delivers high quality. We have had lunch there many times enjoying every bite. We went for dinner and were blown away at how flavorful the plates were. Local ingredients from local farms , you really good taste the freshness. The portions were just right and the service was just enough so you could enjoy your dinner without being interrupted every 5 minutes."

"Some of the best plates we have ever had in Portland. We started with smoked mozzarella, prosciutto and ricotta fritters……and monkfish - potato chips - oil cured black olive - herb mayo…both incredible bites!! We split the salad - mesclun greens - apple - red onion - almonds - goat cheese - house vinaigrette (yum!). Entrees were fusillata pasta - pea shoots and arugula - speck alto adige - basket molded ricotta and pine nuts (wow!) and the rigatoni special with flank steak (yum-yum). Desserts were the flourless chocolate cake with sea salt and a caramel sauce (so good) and the pound cake with lime juice and fresh cream (yum!). Do come here for the food, outstanding service, value and wine time (glass at $2.50)!!"

"We always find the food and service at Blue Spoon to be excellent. On a recent Saturday night, the room was full and a bit noisy, but the staff handled the tables well and our group of four could hear each other. The steak that one of us ordered was not as tender as it should have been - hence the 'excellent' rating instead of 'outstanding', as otherwise everything was terrific: soup special and the bistro poached egg salad, mussels and large Blue Spoon salad, spinach salad and burger. Also a shout out to an imaginative, not over-priced wine list with lots available by the glass."

"There are so many fantastic restaurants in Portland, but if I had to pick a single favorite, it would likely be Blue Spoon. We dine there frequently (twice a month), and I have never had anything less than a great meal, and the service is always exceptional. We've tried most items on the menu, and have loved everything, but the flan is the stand-out on the dessert menu. The wine list is not extensive, but is is well-honed, and the staff are knowledgeable."

"This Munjoy Hill restaurant is a real gem. The food is prepared with care using local sourced ingredients. Serving portions are more than ample, great "first bites" that are really sized as a decent "starter"; eclectic choices for everyone's palate. Decent but not spectacular wine list; however, if you enjoy a good microbrew they have many excellent choices including several European craft beers. Intimate small eatery, not a lot of elbow room, you can feel a bit packed in when the restaurant is full (I think they can serve 24), however, it doesn't detract from the experience. I'm quite pleased with the Blue Spoon, it's now 4 visits in 4 months. One of the most consistent restaurants in Portland."

"I go to the Blue Spoon quite often and am a regular Open Table reservation-maker. As I have written a review before, I can say nothing that is different or new. I go back because they do a great job and the food is great. Why do you ask for an email address since it is you who emailed me?"
