Pennsylvania 6, is a new restaurant that is changing the landscape of the Herald Square neighborhood. Bringing with it the feeling of Old New York and a new taste of classic American dining, Pennsylvania 6 is a 21st Century cross between the Oak Room and the Oyster Bar. (The name is a tribute to Pennsylvania 6-5000, the phone number of the nearby Pennsylvania Hotel, made famous in the song of the same name performed by the Glenn Miller Orchestra.) Born of casual American roots with a sophisticated culinary twist, boasting a raw bar stocked with the finest oysters and shellfish, and an artisanal cocktail bar, a craft beer list, and an eclectic wine list, there could be no better time for its introduction, as the neighborhood continues to evolve and the bordering NoMad neighborhood becomes a burgeoning dining destination with The Breslin, John Dory, the Ace Hotel and NoMad.
"The ambience is very nice. Service could be better. The restaurant was not fully booked and we had to wait a long time for the service and paying the check. What would happen if the place was packed with people ???"

"Visited from MI. Outstanding everything. We were greeted by a very friendly Mai'tre Di. We couldn't get a taxi post Broadway shows so we were 20 minutes late. We'd called and were assured it want a problem and it wasn't! Ordered 2 appetizers - the Blue Crab Mac n Cheese and Ipswich Clams. YUM! My niece (a picky 13 year old) loved her burger. My maple glazed pork chop was outstanding as was the Lobster roll my sister ordered. Our server was great. Finally- ordered an Orange Blossom cocktail and glass of Reisling. Both were excellent. If you want authentic dishes with a culinary twist this place is a must! Really hope to get back here when next in NYC."

"Nice surroundings and very polite staff however the restaurant cannot handle the crush, especially before a sports event like a Knicks game. My steak was cold and my guests entree didn't arrive for 20 minutes after mine. While the waitress was kind enough to voluntarily take off a portion of the cost of that entree,as I said to her act of kindness doesn't make up for the fact that my guest and I couldn't eat together. Given its location, the restaurant wants to cater to the MSG crowd. It simply doesn't have its act together."

"This place never disappoints. The service is always amazing, whether I've sat in the main dining room, or at the bar for a quick lunch. In the few short months that it's been open now, Penn 6 has established itself as one of my new favorite restaurants, for lunch, dinner, or just a drink after work. For quick bites, I highly recommend either the tuna tartare, or the Knickerbocker sliders...both are awesome, but then again so is everything else I've tried on the menu. It can get packed on game nights for the Knicks & Rangers, so be aware of that...but that's the price you pay for being one of the best options in the area around MSG."

"Only thing keeping this from being 5-stars is that wines on hand were far less than own the wine list, and staff waited too late to inform us (before the meal arrived). On the positive side, they offered us a higher priced wine for the same price as what we originally ordered."

"We went early on Sunday noon so it was quiet and we were able to enjoy food and conversation. Even though there were several TVS I think the hour played a role in low noise levels contrary to other reviews citing energetic sports bar. It was super convenient location to Penn Station and we were not rushed. ."

"What this restaurant has going for itself is its proximity to MSG. That's about it. It's slightly above average American cuisine, on a national ranking basis, which means if it was in Tulsa, OK it would be great. Being in NY where there are so many great restaurants, it is not so memorable. We had; Burrata Oysters Little necks Tartufo Omlette Eggs Benedict
The food was above average; in fact quite good. Great TVs and the like to watch current sporting events. I'd go back if a great game was on that I wanted to watch and if I was in the neighborhood."

"My husband and I have been going weekly to Pennsylvania 6 for a late lunch since it is so close to my Friday classes. We have found that the food and the service is very inconsistent. The service and the food were excellent the first few times we went. Recently, we were disappointed. We had a long wait for food that arrived cold and the buns soggy...and the restaurant was not even busy?! It could have been an off day for them. We will give it another try before we find another restaurant to frequent."

"I really wanted to enjoy my lunch there for a business meeting, but several things were off. First, I love the concept in general, and having such a nice spot in an underserved area of midtown is wonderful. However, the waitstaff kept forgetting our table, our drinks and eventually forgot us altogether when it was time to pick up the check. The salad I ordered was terribly bland — mostly iceberg lettuce — and had almost no dressing on it. My colleague's banh mi sandwich was too spicy for her to eat (and she loves hot foods). The drinks didn't arrive until the meal had almost ended. The overall volume was so loud it was difficult to hear each other. I'd love to see Pennsylvania 6 shape up, but lots of trouble spots here."

"One dollar oysters during happy hour is a great deal! Try to go when there is no game at The Garden or it will be a madhouse. Stay with the small plates, oysters and a brew before heading to a game."

"Conveniently located within steps of MSG and offers prompt responsive service. While the food was good, I was more impressed by the wait staff and their willingness to accomodate special requests. Great for large groups, less so for business meetings as the noise level is very loud at all times.
Would definitely recommend to others."

"I had made a reservation and was seated at a 4 top on the mezzanine near the bar. The bar crowd was practically on our table. When we asked if we could sit elsewhere the hostess responded with, "those are all for reservations." The restaurant was not yet full when we left 90 minutes later. Waitress was scarce. Would stop by for the bar but probably not eat there again."

"If you are looking for a upscale, energetic sports bar with better than average food and huge TVs to watch the game before walking 2 blocks to MSG, this is the place. Noisy, energetic, excellent for large groups, Penn 6 has a nice tidy menu. We had excellent apps of fried clams and tuna tartare. Main of Duck breast special and a Duck salad. All enjoyable. Huge tvs make watching any game fun --- and revving up for THE game (whatever it may be) at MSG terrific.!"

"It is difficult to find a nice restaurant with decent food and nice ambiance that isn't a bar near Penn Station/Madison Square Garden. While there is a bar and all the televisions are turned to sports channels, this is a more upscale place with excellent food and service. The tables are set far enough apart without hearing your neighbors conversation. The price is fairly reasonable too. I highly recommend this place."

"This was my first visit there. It was a business dinner prior to a Knicks game, and worked perfectly. Food was good, although we found the menu somewhat sparse of choices. The service was very good and attentive. And when we were done, we walked to the Garden in minutes. Would definitely make it again when going to the Garden again."

"Penn6 is a cut above the other MSG/Penn Station places but that's not such a high bar to leap. We made a reservation but still had to wait for a table (why did we bother??). Service was good but servers were practically running between tables. And the noise -- OMG. People who come to restaurants and then don't use their "indoor" voice must have been raised by wolves."

"Pretty good -- excellent martinis. We had the bone marrow appetizer, which was absolutely outstanding. We also tried the lobster mac and cheese, which was very good. The Penn 6 steak was just slightly above average, though, which was disappointing given the cost. Service was excellent though. My biggest complaint, which is still not a huge complaint, has to do with the ambiance -- it's a nice place, what's with all the TVs all over the place?"

"Very limited menu. Service was quick once we let them know we were in a hurry to get to an event on time at nearby MSG. This is probably the best the neighborhood has to offer, but that's not saying much. Our server had a horrid habit of coming by the table and just saying, in passing, "Everything here looks wonderful, Enjoy!" and leaving, rather than actually inquiring if we had any challenges or needed anything. I would not return; however, this place has changed concepts numerous times so I doubt it will be the same next time I return to this area of Manhattan."

"I was encourage that a new restaurant opened in the Penn Station area. However, I think management needs to re evaluate their menu/prices and overall operations. There was no one in the restaurant when I arrived. The host placed me and my guest at a sm table for two in the middle of two fours. I ask to sit elsewhere and he stated..I have to see what is available? WHAT? I paid $13 per martini for the smallest drink I have ever seen. Waitress politely told me 3.4 oz..I will bring my measuring cup next time. We ordered the day special Korean Fried Chicken. $22 The description failed to tell you. Four Chicken wings !! I did not expect to be gnawing on wings! Upside..good flavor."

"Great new choice in Penn Station Area. I went in with low expectations, since I haven't found many good restaurants near Penn Station and I was very pleasantly surprised. Nice atmosphere, with big bar (huge TV screens for sports) and very nice dining room with a clubby wood and leather decor. Menu is simple pub fare, but everything we had was excellent and well-prepared. Extensive beer menu, wine choices more limited. Service was friendly, efficient and helpful. Will definitely be going back for pre-game and post-work meals."

"Our first time there and was very pleased and surprised how great everything was. Food was yummy but the flavors were out of this world. Everything we tasted was fresh. Food came out hot and we had plenty to eat, and we cleaned our plates too; didn’t realize how hungry we were, but I think it was because of how everything tasted. You can certainly taste the flavors and the fresh ingredients, and you can definitely tell the difference between eating fresh food and what was sitting around. It’s a place to try and make your new favorite place. You won't be disappointed in the food - the service - the place and or the price. The place was off the side street of 31st between 6th & 7th ave. Rare find - absolute gem! Must GO BACK."
