"Been going to Waterfront for years. Last year it was closed because of the move to a new building(about a half mile away). The new restaurant is very nice, high ceilings open and airy. But the food has remained as good as ever. worth the trip for the tableside Cesar Salad, a lost art. So very good. The fish prep options (there are six I think) are still there. We both had the Opakapaka, Bastille style, wow! Just a great dependable friend. The new look with a larger bar area is great. But ensuring the food remains the same is more important. We will go again before our vacation is over!"

"After a extremely disappointing first visit to the new location, we were hesitant to try again. But someone had given us a gift certificate so we gave Waterfront a second try. And am I glad we did. The old menu is back and so is the quality of the food. THANK YOU WATERFRONT!"

"This was our second time at the Waterfront and we had an another outstanding experience. Our waiter, Jeff(who we requested) made our dining experience memorable. Our table had a beautiful view of the harbor and Mt. Haleakala as the sun set. Our meal was excellent (again). We would recommend the restaurant to anyone wanting an exceptional dinning experience."

"Unfortunately, our experience was not the best. We have eaten here before and had a great time, but this time when I went to celebrate my anniversary dinner, the restaurant was out of lobster which was the main reason for the dinner at the Waterfront. The server should have let us know when we got there that they were out of lobster instead of waiting until we ordered and then then inform us of "no lobstaer". We would not have stayed. Also, we ordered a noodle/seafood dish that was quite spicy....too spicy for my wife's grandmother. Gramma ended up eating my wife's mahi dish and my wife was so upset that she refused the noodle dish and just ate a ceasars salad.

"One of our "must haves" when we visit Maui. Their Caesar salad (prepared table side) is the best I've had anywhere and that is just the beginning. The fish selection is terrific and when you factor in the five different ways each fish dish can be prepared, you have quite a choice. "Beautiful restaurant...the scenery, the decor the ”glass” kitchen. Waithelp a little slow even though there were only a handful of tables. This is really a sweet spot for lunch - good meeting place between West side and South or Central side. ”Healthy Salad” was great and the crab cake sliders - what a treat! "Having been to the old location, and expecting the same, or least similar, we were very disappointed. It was VERY noisy, and the previous ambiance is totally missing. We found it to now be more of a "grill" than the fine dining experience it used to be. Even the food, although pricy, did not live up to our expectations. The special Valentine's menu (which we did not expect, as we had earlier on studied the regular menu and thought we knew what was available) did not leave very many options for a non-seafood diner."

"The first night we had dinner at the Waterfront Restaurant, everything was excellent. The food, atmosphere, and fantastic waiter, Gerald, left us wanting to come back again. Our experience the next visit wasn't as pleasant. The food and atmosphere were great, but the waitress was not as professional, friendly or informative.. She never explained the specials, took a long time to come back and see if we'd like anything else, and served coffee in a cup that you could clearly see had spelled coffee all over the outside of it. Very sloppy.
We go to Maui twice a year and will come again hoping that was just an 'off' night."

"Everyone loved their fish dishes. Neat how you can pick the fish and then the preparation. Nice being able to sort of 'customize'. Only constructive criticism would be that it took a long time to get seated even though we had a reservation and it wasn't that busy yet because we purposely booked early because we had a kid with us. "We took our parent's there for a birthday dinner on our last night in Maalaea. The staff was super nice and the food was good. I had the Filet Diane, which was cooked to my specifications. I personally think it had too much sauce, which can hide the taste of the meat (not necessary, as this was a great cut). The Caesar salad mixed at the table was fantastic and our waiter gave us a lot of information when he was mixing it. Overall, it was a very enjoyable dinner."

"Had a great meal at the Waterfront while staying at the Old Wailuku Inn in Maui recently. They specialize in fish....offering 3 or 4 varieties served various ways (I had MahiMahi Hawaiian Style)....and have other non-fish entrees as well. Our dinners were quite good....rivaling, if not exceeding, the quality of the meals we had at Mama's Fish House, often said to be the best restaurant on Maui. The service was warm and friendly and the view of the harbor was serene. We definitely recommend the Waterfront."

"The old Waterfront was special, a local place with a hide-away feel.
At the old Waterfront the Waiters were Sharp and always on top it, you never had to look for service. At the old Waterfront the Table Side Ceasar was incredable, the ceasar we had on Saturday was tastless and the Romaine was Tough....The Lobster Katsu was more breading then Lobster and by no means tasted like Lobster.Lamb and Ribeye Steak was cooked Perfict but the Mushrooms were not cooked at all. The resturant was noisy and the wait staff was sloppy. they need more training. At the Old Waterfront Gary or Rick always greeted us at the door, Saturday night there was no Gary or Rick."

"A so-so restaurant food wise so not a good place for foodies. The service was erratic, but the waiter seemed to know his stuff with respect to the menu. Unfortunately they did not clear used cocktail glasses, replace cutlery on time, etc. Bread arrived late and was just handed to one of us on the outside of the table, not placed in the center.
The food itself was tasty (we ordered the fresh fish choices) enough although some were cooked just a wee bit too hard.
And did I mention that it was much more expensive than it delivered. All in all it was a typical Maui restaurant experience where the prices are too high for the food and menu."

"Better than the old place by a long shot as far as ambiance, service better too. Food-fish overcooked, bland and not served at right temperature (barely warm). Good cocktails and wines by the bottle but limited wines by the glass selection.
Overall just OK, better places to go on Maui (Konos, Cafe O' Lei to name 2)."

"Great view looking over Maalaea Bay. Servers friendly and knowledgable about the menu. Table side Caesar salad is incredible! Ahi sashimi delicious. We got the duo of fresh island fish with Opah and Monchong, my husband loved the Opah, I thought the sauce a little too sweet; we both thought the Monchong average. Great top shelf blended Margarita. Overall a great final night on Maui pick. Prices what you would expect from upscale Maui restaurant."

"This review covers a lunch on Thursday, 2/21/13, and dinner on Friday, 2/22/13. Highly recommended. Food and wine: excellent. Service: slow to arrive, very competent once at the table. We had dined at the old location probably five times over a four-year period, and it was always our favorite "nice" restaurant within walking distance of our rented Maalaea condo. The new location is a great improvement for the restaurant operation and for customers too; more seating, easy parking, lunch and happy hour in addition to dinner, and great views. For our Thursday lunch and Friday dinner, we were seated promptly, but in each case the wait was about five minutes before anyone appeared at the table to offer drinks or water or bring us a menu."

"We were regulars at the old location and still prefer it over the new one. The ambiance at the new location isn't as upscale as we would like. However, after a few glitches the restaurant quality is back to normal. The food is always lukewarm however and the kitchen can never seem to get the medium rare request on meat quite right. There isn't a real view unless you sit outside and that is impossible some nights due to the wind at Maalaea. Be prepared because it is a bit pricey, especially the wine. If you can get past that it is still a lovely restaurant and one we like to frequent when on island."

"The manager should adjust his attitude, as initially he was very haughty. I almost walked out. I had a 7:15 reservation and he said we would be seated sometime between 7:15 and 7:30. That is not my understanding of how a 7:15 reservation works!! He improved later but his attitude was not good. Even the hostess apologized for him! Shame because it is a really nice place with good staff and food. The initial impression they created however would cause me to rethink taking family there again."

"We visited the old location often but we find the new place much better. Great view of the harbor and easy to locate. The fish was very good, we always get it prepared Bastille style. Our server was friendly and very helpful. We did not feel rushed and that is very important. We will be back for sure. Carol"

"Had reservations for 5pm on Valentine's day. They were running about 20 minutes late and hostess was quite "flustered" and unorganized. Limited "special menu" was offered for the day. We had the house salad mixed at our table along with the fish stuffed with crab and scampi alfredo.
The salad was very good but unfortunately we found the fish and shrimp dish to be somewhat disappointing. They were both lukewarm and had no flavor. The fish stuffing was pretty bland and tasteless and the pasta (with the shrimp) was "sticky".
Been to many restaurants on Valentine's day and most of them acknowledged their women guests with a token flower. This restaurant offered nothing which was a big letdown considering the prices they charge."

"First and last time eating at Waterfront.. Food we were expecting to eat wasn't on the menu...overall dissatisfied and disappointed. I was expecting to pay the price but for the portion we got we could have gone to Tommy Bahama or Ruths Chris and pay the same price for a lot more"

"I had not been to the Waterfront Restaurant since their summer 2012 move to Maalea Village. Great new location. Actually, I would argue one of the best locations on Maui for a scenic view. I don't think that there is a bad seat in the house. The food was very good. I ordered steak and it was exceptionally flavorful and tender. The desert menu has something for everyone. I recommend the upside down apple pie."
