Ada Street

Ada Street is a bar & restaurant from DMK Restaurants (DMK Burger Bar, Fish Bar) founders David Morton and Michael Kornick. Beginning June 1, we are taking limited reservations daily, 5:30pm to 6:30pm. After 6:30pm, seating will be first come, first served.

Located in the Elston Industrial District--not quite Bucktown, not quite Lincoln Park--Ada Street offers dinner and late night service six days a week (closed Sunday). The restaurant, which was named one of Chicago Magazine's Best New Restaurants of 2012, features eclectic small plates from Chef Zoë Schor and a comprehensive list of interesting wines, craft spirits and house cocktails. Inquire about Ada Street's private dining room, which can host parties up to 15, or rent the entire space for parties up to 100.

"I was absolutely blown away by our experience at Ada Street. The food was beyond delicious as were the drinks. Our server was really sweet and came around to check on us and take our orders just the right amount. I'm still thinking about the duck confit pasta and the green goddess dressing from the wedge salad. I can't wait to go back"

"I found this gem on Open Table & liked the reviews, menu, & different location which IS random; the door (which is relatively hidden!) facing a trash-truck parking lot in a back alley. Hard to find, especially if in a cab & your driver insists this cannot be where you mean to go ;) LOVED the low lighting. NOT true that you can't see your food or that it's too loud to have a convo. It IS on the loud side, but is a smaller space, & EVERY table was full = fun. Energy & music is GREAT , & food fantastic. Got a bunch of small plates, cocktails, & wine; had a BLAST. HIGHLY recommend! If you don't feel comfortable in close quarters, maybe not for you. An ideal date place, good for small groups (4 pp ideal, as there are not many large tables)."

"My boyfriend and I dined on May 31st, the food was good but the cocktails and service was even better. We were seated at the bar and it turned out to be great. The bartenders were able to make suggestions and compose ddrinks for us off the menu. All the cocktails we had were amazing. It is a small plate restaurant and the plates are small, we shared six and it was just right. Will definitley go back."

"Enjoyed Ada Street with four friends on Friday night. The minute I walked in I loved the private, exclusive hidden feel of the restaurant. We shared several dishes with the following being my favorites, Duck, Manchego bites, Salmon Spring Rolls and the Tomato/Avocado Panzanella Salad. The Chocolate Dessert was also amazing! All of my friends loved this place and all of us agreed we can't wait to go back. Also, they have great Pisco Sours!"

"You'd never know what was behind that door, looking at it from the street. Had an enjoyable small-plates meal. Loved picking out the vinyl & handing it off to the bartender! Really enjoyed the fried manchego cheese, the lamb ribs, and my husband especially liked the chocolate dessert--which was a heap of chocolate served with salty bread--totally delicious! Turned out that friends of ours were meeting up later for a party out the back/open-air space...was a nice warm night to be outside. We had a table against the wall (across from bar) for our dinner, which was prime seating. The tall tables lining the hallway might be kind of a bummer...due to the constant foot traffic."

"This is a good restaurant however I do not believe it to be fabulous, nor worth the money. This was the 2nd time we've dined here in 10 months and it was a very different experience from the last. While the food was tasty, it lacked palatable distinction from one plate to another ( at least in the sharing menu where many items are fried). In essence what was a big turnoff was a line item on the menu for a '6pack to the kitchen staff @ $10'. The audacity this chef has - if her culinary menu was twice as tasty or the scene twice as cool- maybe she could get away with it. Yet not currently, nor in my previous experience. I think this is a trendy spot for patrons just getting into the culinary experience."

"Our second visit to the great place. Just as good as our first. I find it hard to find faults with this place or it's food/drinks. Cocktails are inventive and perfectly balanced. Food is creative and because they are small dishes it's easy to try a lot of selections on a single visit. Most of all, the bartenders and, in particular, the wait staff make you really feel that they are glad to have you there. I haven't found a place who's staff has a better attitude.
I highly recommend the deep fried black eye peas and hot donuts with caramel dipping sauce. Everything in between too!!"

"At a distance now of a week, what really comes to mind, and what the owners must have intended, are the "classic rock" records that are spun on a turntable--from the 60s and 70s. I would say that this is a mixed bag; not all of this music was great, and I'm not certain why contemporary music is not played. I think it should! Ultimately, I think that this is a limiting factor, although it helps define the restaurant now. However, the food is really great; very contemporary, and very skillfully prepared. Hats off to the kitchen! The staff is similarly wonderful, and the space beautiful. I also like its urban location. We will return."

"This was my second time to Ada St. after a truly great first experience a few months ago. Our server, Sarah, remember us and even remembered which bottle of wine we had ordered the first time, took great care of us, and made the night really special for our family. I could go on a hyperbolic rant about all of the wonderfulness at this place, but let me just sum it up by saying this restaurant is perfect: the food is perfect, the service is perfect, the price point is totally appropriate, and the space is lovely."

"This is my fourth time to Ada Street and it may be my last --we love the space, love the food ....but the place is way too loud. Despite multiple requests to turn the music down, it seemed to get louder and by the end of our meal I felt we were literally screaming at each other. Everyone else in the restaurant must have felt the same way because by the time we left...when the room was full the noise level was at a fevered pitch. The food is terriffic, the waitstaff superb BUT most people come to restaurants to enjoy the food and the company they are with and it is almost impossible to do the later at this place. Music should be used to enhance the mood of the space not to detract from it."

"For this type of place - hip, foody - Ada has something to offer. Cool location, a fine menu with craft cocktails, polished service and a great soundtrack. And Ada deserves credit for the design - beautiful inside. The place was packed on a Monday night, so it's drawing a crowd. But the experience is not extraordinary. Tasting more than 10 things on the menu, nothing jumped out. It's fussy without being innovative. And not well focused. In the current scene - with great gastro places all over the city, I expect Ada will find its place among those looking for something off the beaten Bucktown path. But I think it could be an destination restaurant if the menu was more distinctive and the food more memorable."

"My boyfriend and I went to Ada Street on a Saturday night. They played some Bruce Springsteen for awhile and he was obsessed with that. I had been there before, so I was happy he was impressed right away.
Ordered cocktails, they were perfect.
We ordered 6 things, two from each section. The highlights were: baby carrot salad--don't leave without having this. Super light and very tasty vinaigrette. The Duck confit, I think it had me at 'poached egg'. And, the Scallops were probably his absolute favorite. The donuts and chocolate for dessert...phenomenal.
Also, had a couple of their house margaritas, some of the best in the city. Fun to watch them make it too!

"The best dinner experience I have had in a long time! Came in for date night with my boyfriend and had the pleasure of sitting at the bar. Tim took care of us and his service was outstanding! Very informative and friendly. We shared 7 dished total. EVERYTHING that came out of the kitchen was amazing. My boyfriend had very big eats, so we usually shy away from small plates because he leaves hungry. Not this time. I love everything about the atmosphere. The space was intimate but still vibrant. Will definitely be back!"

"The high quality of the food brings my overall rating into the "Good" category. But I will never go back. Entrance from the street is into a black-painted hallway so dimly lit I practically had to grope my way through it. Once in the dining room, the lighting gets a little better, but not much. In the dining room you are greeted by booming, screeching music that, to me, must have been a playlist from the Annoying Music Show. Do they really think this enhances anyone's dining experience? They did lower the volume on request, but that didn't help much. That said, all the food was exquisite! The wine pairings were also excellent. And service was efficient and friendly."

"We went for the 5 course prix fixe menu for 4 which we bought through travelzoo. Our server was very very charming and knowledgeable. Service was excellent. Food was delicious but the wine served with some of the courses was very mediocre. My only gripe was that we had to share the main course, and the portion size was too small. I also don't think that was made clear in the menu. We were celebrating a birthday and our server brought out a complimentary dessert at the end of the meal whit was very thoughtful.
Ambiance was good. The dim lights took some getting used to. The music was very loud and we found ourselves shouting during the meal. The place was filled with just a few older people like us. Most were in their 20s and 30s."

"This was my second visit to Ada's and it is a most unique little spot with lots of pizzazz. The chef, Zoe, is amazing and makes a point of visiting with you, answering questions about the small but most ambitious and delicious menu.
I must say that the clever welcome includes a visit to the boxes of record albums for a choice you get to make and give to the hostess. However, I never heard my album and the noise volume was so high it was enough to have to ask for it to be turned down. I am not sure why anyone would want to be subjected at dinner to the kind of music you would hear at a club. With all we know about hearing loss, it is time people raise their voices(and not the music) about this problem. I would then gladly go back.

"Had an outstanding dining experience at Ada. My fiance and I were seated at the bar and while the music was loud, it gave a fun and energetic vibe in the somewhat small space. The decor is what I would consider industrial chic - tucked away in the very industrial corner of Elston and North, it is a short walk to the Hideout. This is the kind of Chicago my fiance and I love. Lorna made some excellent food recommendations. Our favorite dishes were the prawns, spag squash salad, roasted cauliflower, and of course - the doughnuts with port wine caramel sauce. As my fiance does not care for sweets, I happily ate all 4 donuts."

"We had a fantastic time! The food was great, service spectacular, and the place itself has a great vibe. The menu is all small plates - which we like, it means you get to try lots of things. All the flavors were vibrant, and very fresh. Two stand outs were the tuna tare-tare, and the dock confit. Awesome. Also, the chocolate dessert was to die for. Allie took great care of us, top notch service. Also, great house cocktails. Can't wait to go back!"

"Love, love, LOVE! From the moment you are greeted at the entrance, to the hallway twisting and turning until you get to the small, but beautiful dining room, Ada Street is a gem. Not in an area you would expect, but right off the expressway for those of us not in the city. Wherever you come from, it is worth the trip. Executive chef, Zoe Schor, and her staff are incredible...they all work together like a well oiled machine producing and serving some of the best bar bites I've ever had. This trip, we enjoyed Cured Salmon Spring Rolls, carrot/avacado salad, brussel sprouts, lamb ribs, scallop and personalized cocktails. PERFECTION. We wanted to try everything on the menu. Not my first, and definitely not my last trip to Ada Street!"

"I loved the atmosphere and each dish had layers of flavor. Our waitress was wonderful, knowledgeable and down to earth. I felt welcomed! There are also hints of uniqueness both in the food, layout/decor and experience. Choosing your own LP/record was so much fun and the wine library was cute. The location makes it clear that everyone is going there for the experience rather than just happening to stumble upon it. I will most definitely go back for the outdoor seating come spring/summer! Loved it!"

"Great ambiance - old exposed beams and candles with a semi-open kitchen make for a great time.
Small space, maybe 20 tables, felt very cozy and not cramped.
Music is via a vinyl turntable spinning records that the guests pick out of an extensive and impressive music library.
Great cocktails that are all priced the same, a reasonable 11.00 for some well-built drinks.

"Ada Street has a great mix of amazing food, drinks and atmosphere. We enjoyed a variety of the smaller plates and were wowed by the manchego cheese appetizer as well as the fried brussel sprouts and Madagascar shrimp. We also loved the lamb ribs, Jerusalem artichokes and polenta fries.
Atmosphere was very nice and the restaurant plays real vinyl albums which was am unexpected treat. We had great drinks and wonderful service. I am very looking forward to a return experience"

"Everything we ordered was delicious.
Flavors were layered, tasting was nuanced, each plate was better than the last.
There seems to be a problem with the kitchen as there were long periods of time between dishes. I mean really long periods, like up to 30 minutes. I advise going there anyway, those waits were worth it.
