Short order is a celebration of over thirty years of friendship and culinary collaboration between Amy Pressman and Nancy Silverton. Highlighting their shared passion of bringing the best seasonal ingredients to the table, each menu item at Short order is crafted emphasizing locally raised, organic, artisanal and handmade products. This restaurant is Amy and Nancy’s showcase for foods prepared the way they personally love to eat. Short Order represents their comfort in the simplicity of cooking as they would in their own homes.
"It's hamburgers. Outside. The fries were a little soggy and the lamb burger was way too salty... I'm glad they're using plates instead of paper wrappers but it's not special enough to warrant the price. I'm not rushing back."

"Dined here for Beerfest featuring Stone Brewing and a lamb roast. Our entree, appetizers, and side were delicious. The beer was excellent. This is almost exclusively outdoor dining, so bring a sweater. They can get pretty busy so your server will be scarce and with the crowds it can get loud. Overall, I'd love to come back and explore their full menu."

"My husband & I heard a report that Short Order was rated as the number one place for hamburgers, we decided to try it out the next time we were visiting. The very first day of our arrival to LA, we used Open Table to ensure a table. We were greeted and shown to a table right away. I can truthfully say that from the beginning to the end of our meal we were impressed with the service, not to mention the excellent food! We had the grilled asparagus, which were tender & flavorful, and Ida's burgers, which were without a doubt the best burgers we had ever eaten! The meat was oh so tender and the grilled onions scrumptious. We liked regular fries, but the sweet potato fries, with cinnamon, were an added delectable treat. We will be back!"

"We had fun. 6 of us celebrating mother's/grandmother's birthday around the fire table upstairs. My wife particularly enjoyed the Margarita. Others enjoyed the wine. The burgers were excellent and made the choice of this burger stop a good one since the guest of honor loves burgers. Dessert was special. The service was slow (dinner took over 2 hours and meant a $4 parking charge), but the waitress was sweet so that made up for it."

"My husband and I LOVE Short Order. Their burgers are top-notch and their management and staff is always friendly and helpful. It's one of our regular spots and truly a great find at The Farmers' Market end of The Grove. Also - check out "Short Cake" - their bakery downstairs. Best Apple Pie (except for Gramma's) EVER!"

"Just a little eccentric, and very expensive. $78 for a pair of sandwiches, two cocktails and a few sides, was pretty high, especially considering the picnic-table setting.
The cocktails were equally eccentric. My friend asked for a classic Martini, and was told that this (hip, more contemporary) bar didn't use olives. Oh. My drink, an equally classic one, was served on shaved ice instead of the usual cubes. If I wanted a "raspada", I would have asked for one.
The food was all good and generally up to Nancy Silverton's high standards. I wouldn't recommend the Pickle Platter side, however. Nine bucks for some sliced dills, a few okras, a little watermelon rind and a very small bowl of "pimento" cheese was too much for too little."

"Short Order was absolutely marvelous! EVERY dish I had was surprising and wonderful, the Short Order Burger was the best burger I've had to date. The pickle plate, spuds and Market Smash cocktail were all addictively good- I had high expectations but I am now fairly fanatical."

"While my husband enjoyed his Short Order burger with mushrooms and cheese, I took my hat off for my yummy Nancy's Backyard Burger. The dry-aged beef really has a good flavor and the entire burger was cooked to my definition of perfection. Finished with a coffee malt, I had no room for anything else at the plentiful, bountiful Farmer's Market. To make this a great experience, the wait staff was attentive and friendly. Two thumbs up. No wonder this is the top burger restaurant in USA. A definite gem."

"First time at Short Order and had heard good things about it... however my son's and my experience was not memorable. Made reservations for 1:15 (lunch). We were seated about 10 minutes after our reservation. Not too bad. Then we waited for about 15 minutes before we were waited on. We ordered drinks. Mine came after about 10 more minutes but my son's didn't come for about 20 minutes. Then they didn't take our order until my son got his drink. When the order came, I received a tuna burger instead of a beef burger. Asked for more onions and ketchup but neither ever came. They did comp my sons milkshake."

"Great care in providing grass fed meat. Even though the menu is basic, you can see, taste and feel the care that went in the preperation of ingredients. The setting is simple but very comfortable. The sevice matches the care that went into the food. Although I love rare cooked burgers (if I know the source of meat is organic and grass fed), You should know that they prepare their burgers on the rare side so if you want a medium cooked burger expect to recieve it medium rare. I would recomend Short Order to everyone visiting LA."

"Service was really good for a casual restaurant, fun ambiance with indoor/outdoor seating, cocktail menu enticing. Knowing that Nancy Silverton of Grilled Cheese Nights is involved, I expected something thick gooey and complex - I got a grilled cheese sandwich with a scattering of mostly unmelted cheese on skimpy, bread full of holes. Really Nancy?"

"Although we showed up for our reservation early and they said they had a table reserved for us and led us to it , they told us they were running behind and no one would be able to wait on us for a while. So they said we could sit there and wait or wait at the bar. We opted for the bar thinking we could at least get a glass of wine in the meantime. The wine list is very limited and we didn't see anything we liked by the glass so we saw that they offered half bottles, by the carafe. We attempted to order two different ones of those. Nope not available. In fact they said they only had three wines available at all. Their excuse was they were changing from a winter to spring menu. Really? So we left."

"Our server was very good but it seemed like it took longer then necessary to get our food as well as a small to-go order. There were additional servers working when we left so I'm assuming if you go on a weekend morning when there are fewer servers you may have to wait a bit longer. This is not a problem for us just something to know."

"Although the kitchen and the servers had issues with communication (the menu had changed so what I ordered was no longer available) they accommodated it. The one thing I wished that they did was bring out the food faster. But the service was polite and very nice. Ultimately when the food came out it was very good."

"One of the better hamburgers in Los Angeles located in the Farmer's Market. Have eaten here a few times and the burgers are consistently good. Service a bit slow but good. A problem is that though they were informed it was an Open Table reservation, they didn't log it and it was marked as a cancellation. A call to Short Order was met with instant recognition of the problem and a promise to take care of it which they didn't do. Contacting OpenTable directly fixed the problem. A negative for Short Order and a positive for OpenTable. I still recommend Short Order for a burger if not for OpenTable points."

"The food and the ambiance are the reasons to visit this spot, especially if you're a burger lover. Unlike a lot of the gourmet burger places that have popped up, these sandwiches are cooked and made to order to your liking, with a good variety of toppings. It's super fresh, and just she-she enough that you know you're not just having another hamburger. Fantastic appetizers (corn pups!), crispy/soft fries, and one of the best milkshakes in the city. One complaint: the seating is a little weird. Big, long tables or bar-like seating make up the majority of the joint. There are a few smaller tables, and a lovely booth next to a firepit upstairs. I've never been super comfortable there, but the food and the friendly servers are worth it!"

"Burgers are everywhere. You can find a burger place within a stones throw these days. The burger here was just OK. It wasn't anything I would tell friends about or say "You have to go!" It's just fair. Fries were good, spuds were good, but beyond that everything else was so so. Burger was a bit bland, didn't seem like it was seasoned. A friend at the table felt that the flavors muted each other and nothing stood out. Grape soda didn't really taste grape. Would I go back? If someone said, hey meet me st Short Order, but I wouldn't go out of my way otherwise. I guess it what I'm trying to say is I was expecting more and was let down."
