"Only issue with this restaurant is getting a reservation! The food served here is not like any other restaurant in N.A.Too often you find the same type of food created with the Chet's own twist. The tasting menu, served family style was so inventive. We started with a smoked herring that was served with heirloom carrots & onions in oil that felt like heaven. I don't like herring but this dish would have sufficed as my meal.Salmon with asparagus peas shoots & foam melted in my mouth. Sweetbreads was a third dish with veal cheeks ended our savory. Dessert too, a mix of chocolate that was so rich & creamy it satisfied this chocoholic.Add to all this food very reasonably priced wines chosen by our server. We ate & drank like royalty.I will be back"

"Usually nervous about visiting a restaurant recieving a great deal of hype, but in this case, well deserved! Friends had suggested the tasting menu and it was nothing short of excellent. Service was amazing and the ambiance was so comfortable, it was like being invited to an old friends house for a great meal"

"From the moment they brought out the warm country bread, this meal was exceptional. We decided to have the chefs 5 course tasting menu. Each course was so different and interesting. I don't want to ruin the surprise by telling you each of the courses, the anticipationanticipation of what taste or flavor is coming out next is half the fun. Each course was so different yet complemented the one before and built on the entire experience. Interesting uses of local and seasonal ingredients. We asked our server to pair the meal with 2 glasses of wine (which I would highly recommend). Visit Edulis, you will not regret it!"

"My husband and I ate at Edulis to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. I had tweeted that we were celebrating our anniversary by dining there and we were greeted with a Happy Anniversary upon our arrival. We were given a fantastic table by the window and received excellent service from the moment we arrived. We decided to go for the Carte Blanche menu which is a multi course meal of chef's choice dishes. Each course was fantastic and portioned just right. We enjoyed a wonderful bottle of wine that we adore and hadn't been able to find anywhere for a couple of years. We were treated to an extra dessert in honour of our anniversary which was a fantastic extra touch. Simply amazing!"

"Shhh, please don't tell too many people about this tiny, charming wonderful restaurant. We've been trying to get a reservation for ages and finally snagged a table. It was worth the wait. I feel like I am eating somewhere other than Toronto. Maybe at a small country inn or in the hearty of the West Village in New York. Everything from the fantastic homemade bread to each course of the chefs tasting was delectable. The small menu at $50 ,is great value and Toronto's finest meal. If you are feeling really hungry there is a larger $70 meal. Looking forward to dining outside when the weather warms up. This should be Joanne Kates number one for Toronto's best of her 100 picks!"

"Can't deny that thought and passion went into the cooking process. Alas with mixed results: Average to very good. Appetizers being good, main very good, and dessert below average. Service is very friendly, but could be more attentif. The wine list is small but decent. The description of wines needs to be improved. The shorthand to fit it to one line can be incomprehensible. Bottomline: Try it for yourself. It is a shade of gray that's quite subjective."

"The food delivered on our expectations, fresh and flavorful (spot prawns, duck and wagyu beef were delicious). However, the experience was marred by an exceptionally long wait between appetizers and mains of about 45 mins. We understand that restaurants can fall behind, though some sort of acknowledgement by staff would have been appreciated--especially at a restaurant of Edulis' calibre. Instead,, we had to politely inquire ourselves about the wait time. The delay was even more unexplainable given that our half of the restaurant was no more than half full most of the evening!"

"What can I say, great resto, very different innovative food, the sort of food you could never make at home. We had the tasting menu for $50 and it was outstanding. The dessert was one of the best I've ever had, great portion sizes so you're not stuffed by the end of the meal either."

"Exceptional experience. Food well done and unique with familiar overtones. A sort of classic meets Sooke Harbour House style of cuisine. They must have an excellent west coast fish purveyor to have halibut cheeks and side stripe shrimp on the nights menu. Definitely a great food spot without the pretence. Casual and enjoyable. Great value, lovely selection of wines."

"Great food with slow service. Recommend getting the $50 prefix chef choice meal. You get a lot of food for the value and an opportunity to taste several of the chefs showcases. Just wished they moved a little faster as we were there 2-1/2 hours and felt like there was a lot of time between courses."

"We ordered the chef's 7 course tasting menu and we were delighted with the dishes that came out. The 5 course would have been enough food for me, but we wanted the opportunity to try as many dishes as possible. Seafood lovers would have enjoyed the dishes on this night as the first 4 dishes included fish.
Servers are friendly and do a great job of explaining the dishes and answering questions.
I liked the soft French music playing, and it was obvious that our neighbouring table also enjoyed it."

"As usual our meal was excellent. This was a birthday lunch and featured a fair bit of seafood, which pleased the guest of honour, The roasted octopus was especially good, tender not chewy, nand the sauce it came with was perfect. Went quite well with French cider. The Canute ham was also very good. Cheesecake is not one of my favourite desserts, but when made with mascarpone cheese and a light hand, and served with a home-preserved apricot , I might just be a convert. Service is alway knowledgable and caring."

"Time between courses was far too long and this detracted from the the experience. Entire 5 course meal lasted approx. 3.5 hours. The kitchen seemed to have trouble dealing with a full restaurant."

"So this meal was off the chats... we did the 5 course meal and it could not have been more amazing. How do they do it?? The meal is unique delicious and perfectly done. Homemade herring - feels like it just came out of the ocean...? Dessert here is always something that I would NEVER order on my own on a big dessert menu and every time it is.. how could I have seconds.. The duck was perfect. I think what marks this place as amazing is that every dish is complex yet delicious..."

"What a great find! I strongly suggest perusing the preorder list on the website a few days in advance. We ordered the hay roasted chicken, which is a must-try for any self respecting foodie. The a la carte menu is also fantastic. We're definitely going back for the foie gras & mushroom dish that we had as an appetizer.
The restaurant is cozy and tastefully decorated; a great date place. The service was very friendly and helpful.
And the prices are quite fair given the caliber. I would have expected to spend twice what we paid had we gone to, say, Canoe -- and we liked this more."

"My partner and I had an amazing experience at Edulis! We don't eat pork and that fact was relayed to our server which allowed her to suggest the best foods for us. Choosing from the a la carte menu is great, but letting the chef choose your courses is something I would recommend. Not a single plate was disappointing!"

"I don't know what all the buzz is about. Food was good but not incredibly amazing. I was very disappointed at the service. I went there to celebrate a friends birthday. Wrote it in open tables and asked if they could write happy birthday in the dessert. I know that some restaurants don't do it but at least they tell you when they call to confirm reservation. The hostess must have done a really bad job because she didn't pass the message to the server either so it wasn't even mentioned during dinner, which is fine but here I was, waiting for dessert all excited to see my friend's reaction and nothing!"

"Overall, the place was cute. Felt like a small town atmosphere. The service was ok. I can't say the waitresses brought anything unique to the experience. The food was also ok. Definitely not bad, but not amazing either. There wasn't anything that I would go back for. We were there for the lunch."

"This was our second meal here & the first time we pre-ordered the milk-fed piglet. The sweetest, tenderest pork we've ever eaten. We also ordered several incredible dishes off the seasonal truffle menu. Our table of 4 raved about each dish. We also enjoyed chatting with the chef who stopped by to visit. One of the best restaurants in Toronto!"

"We had the large (seven courses) tasting menu on February 20th. The room seats 30ish, and the evening started our pretty quiet until there was a party of 8. We had herring & carrots, beets & tuna, duck heart soup with black truffle, sweetbreads with mushrooms (wow), duck with mushrooms and potatoes (wow), and a creme foam with blood orange jelly for dessert. I cannot remember the other course (sorry). The dishes were simple, and while there was some time inbetween them towards the end, it didn't feel like a wait. Service was impeccable and attentive. I would return!"

"With two carte blanche menus, priced at $50 and $70 respectively, it's hard to go wrong here. The food was all delicious with notable standouts such as the braised halibut cheek with pork belly and wild mushroom consomme(which also tasted lightly of maple or birch sap)and the knockout seared tuna and beet salad which was so beautifully composed I almost didn't want to eat it, and which contained several thoughtful accents that really elevated it(graham crumb and meyer lemon). Our six courses were followed by a pot of Catalan sabayon over blood orange jelly, followed by the excellent rum baba! For those wondering the food is a mix of Spanish, Hungarian and French bistro although you are sure to come across other influences as well."

"WOW Another amazing lunch here. I think the best part is that every component is tremendous. Shrimp ajillo was amazing - tender and perfect. Mackerel with winter veggies was perfect and satisfying. Cabbage was nice BUT THE DUCK MEATBALLS WOWWW. The Berkshire Pork Main Course was superb. The only problem with the lemon pudding is that I wanted seconds. Don't forget the sparkling water.. it adds to the meal. I think what I like about coming here is that I will eat things that I might not normally prefer and they are ALWAYS delicious."
